Photo Epic: PNW Style & Shredness with Iago Garay in Seattle

Dec 30, 2019
by Matthew DeLorme

Iago Garay has been spending a lot of time in the Pacific Northwest in the offseason, especially in the Seattle area. One could say he's almost a local at this point. Before his training block gets into full swing, he has been out ripping it up at all the local spots and finding places to just let it all hang out. It was an unseasonably sunny fall which made for perfect conditions. Seattle has quite a bit of variety just east of the city. Duthie park for jump trails, Tokul for everything from XC style grinders to DH, Tiger Mountain for big long DH runs and lots of roots, Raging River has so much terrain it's perfect for all-day epics, with big hits, natural terrain, and flow trails. Kind of the perfect spot to do a little EWS training. Come along for a little PNW shred, Iago Style.

No need to come to Seattle folks, way too expensive, many homeless people and traffic is terrible. Forget everything you just saw.

Yeah and you’ll probably melt from all the rain, it’s just really bad.

Forget expensive & traffic, after all it's in every big city... just druggies, street tents and some wet feces all around downtown. One more thing, massive park lot car breakin' - unreal, so yeah bring your cheap ride to the trailhead, cuz after all the shitty stuff the trails are awesome!

Don’t worry. At 40 minutes to the goods, traffic depending, I was already out. The quality of life in any city is determined by how quickly you can get the hell out of it

@cholla: yep, just got the “welcome to Lincoln Park, let me smash that window for you” That happens everywhere these days though

@cholla: This thread started as a joke and you guys just had to make it real, huh?

@fullfacemike: gotta keep those Californians out.

Nailed it. Lived my first 30 years in Seattle...
  • 6 2
@cyrways: Don't worry the Californians are moving to Idaho and Montana. We are already aware that Oregon and Washington are already f*cked up..............

@rivercitycycles: And Utah. Got 3 neighbors from there.
  • 3 4
@rivercitycycles: Californians f*cked it up, and now that they hit the Canadian border they are just going east.
  • 1 0
@rivercitycycles: don't forget North Carolina too...

@jgainey: So who gets the blame for fcking California up? Seems there are plenty of tranny's from everywhere here in CA, including those from the PNW who don't exactly help out the quality of life and driving prices up. If you were born, bred and still live in the same town you get to bitch. Otherwise...

@Eatsdirt: My whole 43 years just outside Seattle in the Capital city (even though I have given up on saying its name since everyone only knows Seattle) So, yup I get to bitch. I was even a fan of the Seahawks before they were went mainstream and mentioned on Sportcenter. Zorn, Largent, and Easly..just don't bring up the Boz.
  • 1 2
@jgainey: Then I feel for you. But don't think for a second that your problems are unique. The same thing is happening to people in California, Hawaii, etc... many of which are likely to have a similar values to your idea of quality of life.

He is parting ways with front wheels for 2020. In these photos the front wheel was only used twice.

Statement " The front wheel has become a completely unnecessary part for my riding style. I can reduce cost and weight by getting ride of the front brake, for, and wheel all together.

Thank you to the sponsors that have provided me with front wheels for the past 5 years. We will see you out on the trails and have an post ride crafty. We can discuss your heavy bikes with useless parts."

Call the good folks at Compass Outdoor Adventures--killer bikes to rent and they'll deliver/pick up at the popular trailheads. Smile
  • 4 0
Actually, I stand corrected—looks like Compass is out of the bike rental business, but they recommended Matt at Progression Cycles instead.
  • 4 0
@DrPete: haven’t had bikes since Halloween. Call Progression Cycles in Sammamish. They’re 5min from Duthie.

We really have had a good post-summer riding season. Definitely some wet days the last month and a half, but still able to ride a couple days each week. Tokul East and the old school trails at Raging River are some of the best. Sometimes we finish riding out there by stopping at Duthie for jump sessions before grabbing a beer and fish tacos on the way home.

Great pics and always good to see Tokul getting some love

I loved Seattle 20 years ago. I moved from the mid west to be there. It’s chaos now. The riding is really good close by.... that’s the only thing I can say nice about it now.
I live an hour and 30 east and that’s close enough to the good riding.
I’m glad people can be happy there.

Interesting photo lineup. His number one paycheck is only legible in 3 photos. Still wondering why there are so many riders switching teams?
