This past weekend the POC Eastern States Cup hosted the first POC ESC Enduro Cup race of 2014 at Plattekill Bike Park, Roxbury NY. Great weather, a great vibe and 5 great tracks were in attendance along with 100+ racers. After the long winter the enduro racers were anxiously waiting for the first enduro race of the season.
Seamus Powell, the 2013 Single Speed XC and Super D National Champion was back to defend his 2013 POC ESC Enduro Cup Championship. Seamus has been getting ready for the enduro season with a very successful 2014 DH campaign.
Plattekill and ESC supporters, Felicia and Ernie Reale, getting ready to enduro together. They had a successful race day, both ending second in their classes. The husband and wife team race all the POC ESC events.
Michael Maldonado and his dad, Nelson proving the POC ESC Enduro Cup is a family event as they both took home podium spots. Congrats to Michael for completing the entire race on a course that the pros were calling “rowdy”.
Nelson Maldonado hitting the steeps on his way to a third place finish in the largest class of the day: men’s 40-49. Nelson is recovering from a serious injury earlier this season that may have him sitting out the DH series. This result might change his mind.
Melissa Martin came all the way from Ontario to compete and plans on doing all the races in the POC ESC Enduro Cup this season. That’s a lot of dedication. Melissa is timing in with her chip. The ESC supplies wristbands so racers won’t lose the chips. Once again the POC ESC Enduro Cup timing was spot on and quick.
David Tompkins tearing up Section 2, one of the racers favourite sections. Section 2 was partially on the ProGRT DH track, held last weekend at Plattekill.. David raced to a strong 11th place in the 20+ deep pro field
Joshua Anderson maneuvering around the famed Plattekill rocks. Joshua just missed the podium with a 6th in the Men’s 19-29 class.
Reeves Hankins flying over the section 2 drop, there’s plenty of those at Plattekill. But fortunately there is always a go around for those without wings.
Masson Racing’s pro woman Kelly Dolan took the class, won every section and clinched the win by over a minute overall.
WTB provided Custom ESC WTB Volt seats to all the amateur winners, while Geax provided tires, DP Brakes brake pads Carb Sports and of course “Wicked Wash Winners” to the fourth and fifth place winners. The POC ESC has a strong group of sponsors again in 2014.
Pro Women’s Winners: Kelly Dolan first, Kathy Golebiowski second and Elinor Wesner who battled to third after a crash or two..
Jason Memmelaar, Seamus Powell, Anthony Coneski, Jason Scheiding, Tim White all made the Men’s pro podium.
