Friend of the podcast and good riding buddy
Luise Rohland chipped in with a great listener question the other day. Inspired by on the bike chats on our
recent trips and a new
Youtube series with
@ben-cathro, she was wondering if we could discuss our own take on “how do you learn how to mountain bike?” Naturally, we had to sit down with her and talk about her views and techniques to do just that. Of course, Luise is an interesting guest in her own right and that’s why we had to chat about her riding, her favourite destinations, how she learns new skills and how she got to be the
Queen of Switchbacks. We go through a lot of her key tools, like
pump tracks, “sessioning” trails, using video and watching how pro riders do it that can help you progress on the bike. There were quite a few important takeaways from the conversation, like the importance of feedback from riding buddies, why “mansplaining” is not all that bad as well as taking inspiration from other sports and disciplines altogether.
What are your best tips and tricks to improve your riding? Let us know in the comments below what you think and what your favourite tools to learn on the mountain bike are.
