Portuguese Enduro Series - Terras de Bouro Round 1

Apr 26, 2018
by Tiago Nunes

After three years of being one of the venues of the Atlantic Enduro, Terras de Bouro received last weekend the first round of the 2018 Portuguese Enduro Cup organized by In Nature together with A.D.R.C. Chorense. Located in the north of Portugal this is one of the mandatory stops while you are cruising along the north and if you want to get in touch with Peneda-Gerês National Park in order to enjoy its unique fauna, flora, gastronomy and stunning trails. The name Terras de Bouro make us travel back in time to get in touch with Germanic tribe called Búrios who had invaded the Iberian Peninsula installing themselves between Cávado and Homem rivers. This region has one of the most precious memories of the Roman times - Via Nova or Geira - a trail built to connect Portugal with Spain in order to amplify the Roman presence on the Iberian Peninsula.

Over two days - one of training and other for racing - the riders would be able to struggle five stages with good weather conditions besides the outstanding scenarios, it’s a case to say that we had an excellent weekend. The only day of racing was dominated by Emanuel Pombo. The well known Portuguese Rider was the fastest over the race beating José ‘Meira’ Oliveira by 24 seconds and João Reis by 48 seconds. At the women, Maaris Meier took the win putting Aurea Agostinho on the second place by 2 minutes and Gabriela Vasconcelos in third with a 3 minute 40 second gap. After this round, Pombo and Meier are at moment the first leaders of the Portuguese Enduro Series. The caravan will hit the road and make the second stop at Lousã, which received this year the finals of European Downhill Championships proving the quality of the trails and connection with mountain biking.
