Hopefully RedBull will have covered a bit more of the track, I feel the times will be tight and exciting, but if all we get on the feed is trees and pedalling sections then it isn't so great XD I do get the point about it being difficult to stick cameras in a jungle tho....
Like 8 180 degree corners stright out of the gate. Mess up one of those and you're already down. Also there are a fair few roots/ flat corners in the second half that again, on a track this fast, make one mistake and you are out the ass emd of the field. The technicality of the track is there, its just smaller more precise. You cant expect to win if you make even the smallest of mistakes.
@Patrick9-32: Yes, that one section they showed seemed to be taking out all the riders. I was thinking to myself that if the best in the world are having trouble with it, I stand no chance.
I may be retarded and late to the party but what exactly is a technical track? I remember a Polish 4X champion saying once: 99% of MTB population can go down a WC DH track after a week on that track on a proper bike. Only 0.1% can survive the first jump on BMX track after a year on it.
@WAKIdesigns: It seems like every track people talk about on Pinkbike is not technical enough. Sea Otter last week, then this one. I'm not saying this track is top to bottom rock garden, but it looked plenty challenging based on what I've seen in in this video.
As for the BMX track, I suppose it would depend on the track. I could not ride one of those Olympic tracks, ever. But I do laps on my local track every now and then, no problem.
@DARKSTAR63: really? I think it takes skill to clear those few huge jumps. It requires technique to take an easy berm quickly. I met Kovarik on trail once. He was so much more better than me, than I was better than bike renting Joeys. I saw him getting off the lift as I was starting rolling down the trail. He caught up on me in 1/3rd of the track, I didn't know it was him, I just heard someone riding behind me. I moved away, he passed me just before an easy section of few berms. I lost the sight of him before that section was over. The more I learn the more I appreciate small things I find it quite funny that people can downgrade something that is only theoretically easy. I take it as being too dumb to know you're stupid. Ignorance is a blessing though... Some stuff is simply beyond some people's ability to grasp what the hell is going on. I saw Gee or Minnaar dancing like cats on the gnarliest bit of Val Di Sole, yet here they struggle. Just because some of them make it look easy, it doesn't mean it's easy Too often we mistake a bumpy trail for technical trail. I am sure I could work out that rockgarden, but I will never in my life will be able to do a thing like those whoops.
@WAKIdesigns: I am thoroughly confused about your statement, I agree on jumps requiring skill, did you read my original post? I only said that if any track qualified it might be Sea Otter because it really isn't that techy - they guys race trail bikes on it.... so compared to a WC course it is in a relative manner not as technical.
@DARKSTAR63: sorry to synthesize: You can use your technical skill on anything and you can ride through any rough bit with having little skill. Roughness or steepness of the trail should not be the criteria for technicality of the course because sometimes it takes long years of perfecting base skills to win on "easy" trail which in the end makes it a difficult trail to crack
I think that is the main point the OP was getting at, this track is not rocky other than that one garden, and speed plays a roll too. I could ride through those whoops. If I tried it at the pace they are taking them at I might die. @WAKIdesigns
@DARKSTAR63: Sorry I didn't mean to call you dumb, I meant the mechanism and it was a general comment I would never call you dumb. Canadian brake sorry sorry sorryy from Surrey
We're world class at getting burnt son. It's not limited to Straya. Spain, France, Botswana, Thailand, Brazil. Hell, even Scotland. I mean, why limit yourself?
Gee's laugh at the end of his interview was the most revealing part of all the interviews. "We've changed tires 18 times today....[laugh]" Laugh = this place is impossible to set the bike for with the crazy dirt conditions. That's my take. What else could that laugh mean?
Phuck me! I can watch a thousand races and DH is still just plain awesome!
Awesome listening to Rachel be so thoughtful about it. Usually we catch her after she's just crushed 'em and is all happy and giggling and 5h1t.
Blenki hit the whoops at light speed. Nobody looks more pinned than Blenki!
Man, Danny Hart looks so in control over those rocks. I get the impression that hes an extremely skilled DH rider, but maybe he hasn't won a few world cups is he's not as fit as some of the other top riders?
i get the sense too. But i think sometimes when we say someone lacks the fitness we are saying "they must not train hard enough" but i wouldn't go that far. Some of fitness comes down to genetics.
@freestyIAM: I would say troy is physically smaller than Danny, but he has the advantage of being Australian. Better weather, better conditioning coaches, Better food. On the other side of it Danny is an amazing bike handler because the UK has some awesome riding spots and awesome weather for learning how to ride mud.
It may just be that I'm hungover and emotional, but I love every single racer out there. I'm so stoked for everybody—it looks so fun! That said, LET'S GO SICK MIK!!!!
I wonder if all the athletes sponsored by RedBull actually drink that toxic cat piss. It certainly can't be a part of a healthy training regimen / diet.

Good luck Gee!
@Brannigan I'll get you a beer in Leogang you made my day!
