Press Release: Zesty Life

I'm Rachelle Hynes, a local Squamish rider, blogger, and creator of Zesty Life, and I'd like to take you on an exciting journey with my new book “Recipes for a Zesty Life”. When you need to dig deeper, push harder, and restore your motivation, this is your handbook.

A stunning 8.5x11” coffee table book, bursting with over 350 pages of inspiration, practical guidance, and beautiful photography; Recipes for a Zesty Life is a mountain biker’s guide for overcoming setbacks, fueling your body, and developing an unshakeable mindset. You will also unearth the torch for finding your way in life, love, relationships and career. A truly unique blend of healthy plant-based recipes, nutrition, short stories, practices and habits for realizing your potential and harnessing your power to change your life.

Bike-themed stories & delicious recipes.

I believe people are craving inspiration from every day human beings—not just superhuman athletes or wealthy media personalities. And that’s what I’m offering. By the time I hit 30, I'd been through an unusual measure of adversity, successes and failures, and the book is a heart-felt expression of the lessons I've learned, and am still learning, and the components that I feel have allowed me to live a zestier, happier and more meaningful life. Each component is covered within each chapter, and the book takes a 360 degree approach to wellness; incorporating mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional well-being.

Through learning hard lessons, searching my soul, and maintaining a growth mindset; I've found that when you can be bold enough to make moves from your heart, and get back up when you fall, you become a being of mastery, rather than a misery.

Went into a random pub in Nanaimo over the weekend. They had a full vegan menu. Had a pulled pork knock off made out of jackfruit. ...it was super tastey. Not a vegan but if it's good it's good.

 Cool! Which Pub?

@gnarnaimo: Milton Street PUB, I think. I was pretty tuned up but I think that was it.

I've got to be honest...I'm beginning the grow a bit jealous of how confident some people are....I would never even contemplate writing a book to try and instruct others how to live like me....No disrespect to Rachelle...Seems like a pretty positive take on whatever all this is

There are literally hundreds of millions of books out there. No one is telling you to do anything unless you open it up. There is some symbolism there...

Hi @twinsdad, I have my fair share of insecurities like everyone else—part of the purpose of the book is to share some of those, and the things that have helped me. If it helps even one person with their own life, that's a win...
Everyone is free to live in the way that works for them.

If Trump can get a book published that he didn't even read or write, you can do anything. That's all the confidence you need right there.

Get in touch with Lapierre cycles and ask them to hook you up with a Zesty. It would be a no-brainer for me if I worked in their marketing department...

...the picture of the jar filled with what is probably granola cubes....could easily be mistaken for a jar of vegan chronic. I must admit, I was a little bummed when I zoomed in and figured out it was it wasnt chronic.
  • 1 0
Yeah thanks....I didn't mean to imply that my way is working for me.....Just the opposite.....That's why I was so cere in using the word jealous....I would love a day where something as simple as a vegan chocolate chip cookie turned it all around for me.......

put some pepperoni sticks in the handlebars, seatpost, and headtube. Pull out your fork dampers and shove some pepperoni sticks in there. Pull out your huck-norris' and replace with pepperoni sticks. replace your top tube, down tube, chain and seat stays with pepperoni sticks.

Yes! How about some granola: zestylife.ca/zesty-life-granola Also makes great bars...

@zestylife: I feel like you could make an entire cookbook of energy bars. I got hooked on Skratch labs DIY energy bar mix. Ever since they discontinued it I've been struggling to teach myself to make anything quite as good anymore.

Looks like an awesome cookbook. Stoked to get a copy. Smile

@zestylife: That looks great! How many of your recipes use refined sugar? I find that my nerve issues flare up worse the more sugar I consume and I've been trying to find things I can eat on the trail that fill me up and give me energy without containing insane amounts of sugar.
  • 2 1
 @shinook: No sugar. No Gluten.

Thanks so much!! I hope you find something in there you like even more Big Grin @oliv3r:

I want to love this, but I'm also an unrepentant carnivore. Is the book preachy or condescending on this topic?
  • 4 0
Not at all. It's all about sharing delicious food that makes you feel good. No judgement in how people live their own lives...

Congrats on the efforts! I eat clean. Love the book; great content and vibe - awesome design and photography.

Saw ya at Cloudburst last year with my gf. Will be coming back to Squamish next year! I'll say, hi, this time!

Kinda surprised people still put out recipes with Tofu and other soy rich products considering it's not the best supplement for men.
  • 2 1
Say what now? That's news to me.
  • 2 1
From what I understand that's far from proven.
  • 5 1
@Pedro404: @zaalrottunda There is a rumor about soy and estrogen, but actually you will find more estrogen in beer :O
  • 4 1
@wpplayer18: That's because it's totally false. Some people who aren't capable of using google, much less searching academic journal articles, think that because soy has high amounts of phytoestrogens, it will lower your test levels and make you less "manly". If you have a decently healthy diet that includes plenty of rice, yams, legumes, oats, coffee, hops, and a whole whack of other foods, you already have lots of phytoestrogen in your diet.
  • 4 0
@mnorris122: What about if you just have plenty of hops...? Asking for a friend.
  • 4 1
 @zestylife: @mnorris122:
Not exactly a "rumor".
I'm always a bit curious as to why people are so good at dismissing the precautionary principle, particularly when we live at a time where science is good enough to be relied on. While in adults it is less clear how endocrine disrupters may affect health, there are evidence that children health is affected by endocrine disrupters (phytoestrogens are considered are such). I guess social responsibility is not a thing, and it's fine if 1-10% of kids have developmental issues that are putatively related to endocrine disrupters.
I would not avoid food that contains lots of phytoestrogens like plague, nor treat it like having some in your diet is a bad thing, but pregnant women and parents should keep this in mind.

@mnorris122: I was talking about soy protein not being as beneficial for muscle replenishment, but it's also not ideal to consume large amounts of soy as a guy.

Just for the record, the recipes in the book don’t use fake meat/dairy substitutes, and tofu is utilized in only a few recipes.

The key message throughout is “eat plant-based foods, fresh and in as close to their natural state as possible”
