Is it just me or is the EWS coverage really bad this year? I don't just mean on Pinkbike, the official EWS website is utter crap.
  • 20 0
I just wish we could have these slomo videos back Frown
  • 15 4
Especially this race! |Zero youtube vids too!
  • 74 4
Blame it on Discovery. Yes it is shit and I guess next year's DH coverage will be shit as well thanks to Discovery/eso
  • 14 6
@gaffney92: I’m happy to shit on the coverage too, but did you even look? EWS has three videos up for this race.
  • 6 5
@pisgahgnar: Ill be honest no I didnt. They usually appear in my feeds. Ill go look now thnak you!!
  • 19 0
@gaffney92: go find Moi Moi Tv on YouTube

At least you can see the tracks and what Jack Moir snd the Canyon team are up to.
  • 59 1
Jack Moir's videos are definitely some of the best EWS content, especially if you want a full course preview.
  • 33 0
 It’s scary…I fear for DH next season…
  • 12 1
@bashhard: Discovery/Warner Bros is in the middle of a huge cash crunch. They just cancelled the release of Batwoman even though they had already spent $90M on shooting the entire film. Only thing left was some editing and promotion.
  • 15 1
Kinda odd that Pinkbike seem to be pushing the EWS content less this year (hence people thinking the videos don’t exist)… what gives Pinkbike?
  • 6 0
@pisgahgnar: Nothing from the race though. It's all old news by the time they have anything from the actual race. The riders put up their POV faster than the EWS media team.
  • 9 4
@salespunk: Or the big shots finally realized some suit spent 90 mil on...Batwoman.
  • 8 6
@Fill-Freakin: ya but a helmet cam pov is done when you turn the gopro off. Also discovery isnt in charge yet so how is this their fault? I'm not thrilled either but the doom and gloom going on is weak
  • 6 5
The coverage is awful. The race schedule is poorly planned. Like 3 months between races in the middle of the season? The race format is pretty vanilla. When I hear "the spirit of enduro", it makes me throw up a little in my mouth. There's nothing to get excited about.
  • 2 2
It's weird, in previous seasons they would do a full recap show, but they seem to have given up on that. What's also weird is that the previous shows have been deleted from their YouTube channel...There's got to be something going on behind the scenes?
  • 7 2
@northernwig: The older full shows are on Pinkbike's YouTube if you're still keen to check them out. www.youtube.com/watch?v=yAcBZ51LIKo
  • 7 1
@bashhard: essentially you think it will be shot because you have to pay for it but if you want good coverage the money has to come from somewhere. Unfortunately races such as ews there would be no money for anyone in making good coverage. It’s as simple as that it’s about the bottom line
  • 1 0
 yup, it's a damn shame.
  • 1 4
Like the last EWS they dont have the 4th or 5th stage listed on the online results page. Amazing they missed that and added it during the race for the last ews only to have it happen again. Someone should drop a dime and let chris ball know he might want to update his site, liks an hour ago
  • 2 0
@won-sean-animal-chin: they haven't run those stages fool!
  • 1 0
@VTTMTB: there are racers on stage 4 abd 5 right now genius. Pros ,if not already, will be starting 4 soon the first group may already be down. Regardless, it should be on the site from the start
  • 4 0
 @edspratt: moi moi TV!
  • 5 0
@Jimmy0: A livestream is done as it's doing. You can't tell me they can't have one person at the finish of each stage livestreaming what's happening. I thought Discovery was already in charge of EWS, and they were picking up the UCI world cup next season only. Although that might explain the terrible coverage and website. The current organization would have zero interest in putting money and effort at self promotion if they are just going to give it all up to Discovery next year. Better for upper management to skimp on every expense so they can give themselves a big bonus for this year.
  • 12 7
@Fill-Freakin: really impossible to film considering how many riders are spread across the stages. A finish line cam just be boring. Ews is dead, only exists to sell enduro bikes now
  • 5 0
@mknott9: why post if its dead? Why are we all here?
  • 5 0
@won-sean-animal-chin: have to eulogize it but really when you think about it what are the standout moments of ews history? None that I can recall
  • 11 4
 I blame E-EWS.
  • 6 1
@mknott9: I think that standout moment might be sipping from someone else's water bottle
  • 10 0
@mknott9: sooo many Sam moments. On site guinea pig ravine gap, inside line foot out at the bottom of a loose chute no one did, 2 wheel drifts in chile. More recent is Jacks master class last year, jesse tge ultimate warrior always pushing. The jesse , jack, richie battles with maes as a spoiler. Its never a runaway. Always a battle. Gave us Cecil. Shes always fun to watch. We wouldnt have moi moi fv or jesse's yt channel without it. Shit, vidals one gurn alone is enough reason to have ews. That turn is what dreams are made of

I love biking but there is no way I would watch it. I go to Rugby matches and get 80 mins of action laid out in front of me plus the crowd environment, a few pints, etc. Cycling be it TDF or EWS just draaaaaags on. EWS is (im sorry to say) dull. Its not a viewer friendly format at all.

 @salespunk:

Toxic…

“ The CNN+ streaming service terminated after just 21 days in operation. CNN executives had originally hoped to bring in around 2 million subscribers in the US, but after the services' launch fewer than 10,000 people were using CNN+ on a daily basis.

To recoup losses generated by CNN, parent company Warner Bros. Discovery is looking to sell programming created for some of its other services, such as HBO Max. They're also broadly cracking down on expenses such as spending money on work celebrations. ”

They’re hoping we’ll fill the subscription roles and underwrite their losses…
  • 6 1
@SteepJobs: They pulled the plug on CNN+ because it should never have been launched in the first place. It was a weak, copycat offering which wasn't going to work. It was allegedly a vanity project that had got out of hand and incoming management just wanted to minimise the losses.
  • 1 0
@rtclark: Yeah, I don't understand the schedule, it doesn't make sense. Massive gaps in the middle of the season are a 'no no'. They need to sort that. Even the behemoth that is F1 only has a 3-4 week gap in the summer.

@pisgahgnar: Flo's results this season (bad in e-EWS, pretty darn good in regular EWS) show one thing: Orbea's e-bike is terrible.
  • 3 0
All that ebike training paid off to get her in the top 3. lol But in all seriousness, hell of a good job.
  • 2 1
@mi-bike: The rise is an awesome ebike, but its not meant for full boost racing. The wild is very dated, and agree it needs an upgrade to compete with the boost monsters.

EWS is shitting the bed IMHO.

First of all. Who the hell thought it was a great idea to schedule this race on the same weekend as the World Cup races.

Secondly, there is almost zero coverage prior to the event to create a sense of anticipation and buzz. The pre-race coverage used to be great.
Now it's results first and then a ( admittedly pretty decent video wrap up) a few days after but honestly it doesn't do it for me.

Jack Moir's vids are great but relying on his edits as "coverage" is friggin weak Pinkbike!

Savor this last WC season folks. It will never be the same (or better) after this.
  • 4 0
Hmm, the preview video I watched was pretty decent. Came out a couple of days before the event
  • 4 0
The same person who scheduled crankworks the same weekend as worldcup ... duh
  • 4 1
On what planet is the highlights video pretty decent? It was ok the last few years but now only shows a few minutes of the top three and fills the rest with pointless chat, it is consistently terrible, as I’ve said before there is no way you can produce something that bad unless you are trying to.
  • 2 1
@jimmythehat: to be fair Josh Carlson is a really good addition to the EWS media team, so I think they are trying. But yeah, the highlights are still shit.

@chakaping: if you like talking he’s not bad, I’m in it to watch bikes on track so irrelevant to me
  • 3 0
I literally didn’t even know it was on until now. Whistler used to be the biggest race of the year. EWS is dead and buried and they have nobody but themselves to blame.
  • 4 0

I'm usually not one to complain, but I'm getting pretty pissed off with this new EWS site.
Neither the live timing or the live feed works in my phone, the previous years it always worked fine.

I don't demand live TV coverage or vídeo reports every 10 minutes on social media, but it's unaceptable in 2022 that any world cup level sport doesn't have proper functioning live timing,at least.
  • 1 0
Works for me! Maybe it’s your phone
  • 1 0
@enduroNZ: I'm on a pretty normal setup, Android phone using Chrome, just installed the latest update the other day,so don't really know what's the problem. When I open the live feed nothing appears on the page and on the live timing just shows "searching for stages".

I'm not trying to be snarky, but a full list of elite results would be much more useful than stage-by-stage times for the Masters. If the EWS don't have a list you can import, please take the time to type up the top 20 or 30, it's not a big job.
  • 8 1
 PDF downloadable here - www.enduroworldseries.com/race/ews-round-4/ews-whistler/202189/results

And another bit of feedback - in the spirit of helpful criticism again - I really don't think the "live stage updates" you post on here serve much purpose, they're not frequent or complete enough to really provide useful coverage and then when we dip into the article later, it's a confusing mess.

If you want to offer more useful live updates, maybe do more on the story of the race. Who's crashed or had a mechanical and lost time? More interpretation and less stats for the sake of it.

HTH

I dunno….don’t hockey fans pay $20 or something to TSN to watch their games? Totally get it that EWS isn’t as TV-friendly as DH. But I find the drama and entertainment in EWS is as good as any sport. I’d pay $20 a season to get a good 2-hour show after a race weekend. I’m sure someone could gather the footage and interviews and put together a quality product.

@skiandmtbdirtbag: You obviously didn't read any of the articles about hydration or about a certain EWS racer from the last few years. (And correct, I did not race yesterday. No water as no doubt promised is pretty bad.)

@mi-bike: 'No water as no doubt promised is pretty bad.'

Which is my point, not sure why you are trying to be a dick about it....

@skiandmtbdirtbag: I think it was a joke about tainted water bottles that make athletes test positive but "it wasn't theirs" haha
  • 4 7
@Denyer: Thanks; the joke should have been pretty obvious for those who've read anything on this site in the past few years about hydration or Richie Rude. The origin story: www.pinkbike.com/news/an-update-on-richie-rude-and-jared-graves-failed-drug-test-ews-france.html. Never did I try to dish on @skiandmtbdirtbag. Having no water in a race is obviously no joke.

@Denyer: Yeah I totally missed that one.

Congratulations to Flo!!! Wow 3rd So happy for you !!!! CHI CHI CHI LE LE LE

Why is Eddie Masters racing EWS instead of WC? Seemed like he was having a solid WC season.
  • 26 0
He actually podiumed at the last EWS.

Anyone know what happened to Richie Rude?
  • 1 0
Wondering this also, I feel bad for him whatever it was!

And, is there anyone who can take the series back from Jesse now?
  • 1 0
Sounds like it was a flat on the last stage.
  • 1 0
@wilsonians: apparently reading is not my strong suit
  • 1 0
@timbrewolff: about 3.5 minutes lost though? Not a ride-the-cushcore situation
  • 2 0
@AndrewHornor: He crossed the line with air in both tires on the last stage, must have stopped and fixed it.
  • 1 0
according to his Insta he blew a tire
  • 3 0
@brookscurran: I just looked on Instagram and that's exactly what happened. He blew a tire off. So disappointing and I'm sure it's not the way Jesse would have wanted to win, either
  • 4 0
@AndrewHornor: Pretty fair to say Jesse was on another level this weekend, he beat Richie on every stage except 3 where Jesse flatted. Definitely not the way he would have wanted, but a proper win nonetheless.
  • 1 0
 @brookscurran: yeah that's true

Go Seth, ALN and Jesse!! Great day to be a local rider!
  • 2 0
Good day for the Canadians and Ausies! 8 out of the top 10. Great results for Jesse and Remi.
  • 2 0
You probably meant Canadians and Kiwis and one very special Aussie as well.
  • 2 0
Bummer for ALN, but happy for Remi and Jesse. Pretty impressive to win with a flat tyre.
  • 3 0
 Yeah Jesse!
  • 2 0
Jesse!!!! 5.9 seconds up! That’s huge!
  • 2 0
Anyone know what happened on ALN's last run?
  • 2 0
Saw some IG posts that looked like a tire blew off or something. She was on fire up until that stage!
  • 2 0
Pedro Burns, where you at my guy? Top 50 consistanlty on a factory ride?
  • 1 0
The Trek Factory Racing Enduro curse is strong, Look at all the men talent they had through the years and everyone dipped in their results, Florian Nicolai, Lewis Buchanan and Ruaridh Cunningham.
  • 2 0
The NZ boys killed it! Stoked for Matt, Ed and Cole!
  • 1 0
ALN and Jesse up by a couple seconds each with one stage to go, man this is tense
  • 3 0
 Come on Jesse and ALN!!
  • 5 3
Yoaannn Barelli finished ahead of Richie Rude.
  • 1 0
Richie Rude must have had a mechanical or he is hurt, because he finished in 44th I believe, which is way off his pace.
  • 1 0
Anyone know what happened to ALN on Stage 5?
  • 2 0
wish I knew. she is my favorite
  • 3 0
Go to instagram, it's the only proper source of information about EWS

Rocky altitude, still the best Enduro race bike.
  • 2 0
I ride an Altitude so I can tell you with confidence it's not the bike
  • 1 0
@AndrewHornor: I've ridden/owned an altitude, after trying about 6-7 bikes since, i regret selling the altitude.

If your not confident or like how it rides, somethings not right. - Every reviewer of that bike loves it, enduro-mtb, pinkbike and even JKW.

If you want proof, go ride something else for more than 1 ride, youll want the rocky back.

@HeatedRotor: comment was intended as self deprecating humour Smile Mine's not even the current generation but I love it
