by PROPAIN-Bicycles

PRESS RELEASE: Propain Bicycles

The high-end bike brand from southern Germany is responding to the demands of US customers to start distributing their coveted customized mountain bikes in North America. To start things off, Propain USA will offer a limited number of pre-configured bicycles, which can be customized with colored decals, grips and saddles.

Later on, a full online customization and configuration will also be offered on the US-website. All components like fork, rear shock, drive train, seat post, wheelset, tires, brakes, etc. can then be individually configured from a selection of the best components available. This creates a unique bike for every customer.

Along with the trail-, enduro-, freeride- and downhill bikes, two full-suspension kids bikes with 20”- and 24“-26“- wheelsets are also available. You can now order the preconfigured bikes online at: www.propain-bikes.com/us. The dispatch center will be located in Salt Lake City, Utah, so short delivery times within the US are secured.

Test rides and pick-ups can be arranged in Salt Lake City at any time. You will also be able to take one of the bikes on a test-ride during an upcoming roadshow to different bike parks across the country. Dates will be published soon.

Questions and Answers

Why don’t I get as many configuration options as on the European website?
For now, the bicycles are assembled in Germany. Waiting times would be extreme if we offered the same configuration options in the US. However, we will make full customization available in the US from beginning of 2022 on.

Will you offer more configuration options in the near future?
We will adapt supply to the demand and will always update available configurations.

Why aren’t you currently offering all models?
The new Tyee, the E-Bike Ekano and the full kids bike range will be available soon. Unfortunately, the current challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic hinder full availability. We plan to offer our full range from summer 2020 on.

Is it possible to order frames only?
For the time being, only complete bikes are available. We will add options to order frames only later.

Can you fulfill special requests (installation of own components, etc.)?
We’re afraid not. We are convinced that our configurator offers something for every wish. Full Customizing plus own components would go beyond the scope.

Where can I test the bikes?
You can test our bikes in Salt Lake City. Send an inquiry for an individual appointment to: info@propain-bikes.us.

Can I also order from a neighboring country?
We currently deliver to the US, Alaska and Hawaii. Shipments to Canada will be possible soon.

Which payment methods do you offer?
PayPal and Credit Card.

How high are the shipping costs?
$99.00 for bikes and $8.00 for parts within the United States.
$290.00 for bikes and $14.00 for parts to Hawaii and Alaska.

How long does a delivery take?
Provided the bike is in stock, the delivery takes between 5-7 days on average within the continental United States.

Which shipping company do you work with?
FedEx.

What about spare parts/merchandise/etc.?
For a start, we focus on bikes. Parts and merchandise will be available soon.

Who should I contact for help and more information?
Please contact us via email: info@propain-bikes.us.

How do returns/claims work?
See “terms and conditions” on our website for further information.

I've been waiting for this for a while. I'm very interesting in the Tyee when it eventually gets over here.

I will say that I'm a bit disappointed with the pricing though. It's notably above the dollar price if you convert from their Euro price and the Euro price contains VAT (I assume). The Spindrift Performance for instance is 3534 euros which at today's exchange rate would be $3847. The US price is listed at $4399. That's a big difference and pushes them to the edge the "great deal!" category that has made them so successful in Europe. They're still solid values, so I'm still interested, but not quite the smoking deals I'd hoped to see.

Yeah I noticed that as well. When you do the custom Hugene on their euro site and choose the performance model it comes out to 4200 Euro including VAT and shipping to UK which is about $4600 USD. That same model in the US is $5700 after shipping and tax to CO...honestly not sure where the extra $1k+ is coming from seems weird and definitely not the great deals that I was looking at when getting excited about Propain. Unless I am missing something. @PROPAIN-Bicycles are you able to explain the big differences?

Pro-pain: can anyone name a more abject failure in branding in the history of mountain biking? Did they really intend to limit their English-speaking market strictly to masochists? Calling all suckers for punishment: bring your thickest skin! When you buy something with a model name like Ekano, Tyee, or Frechdax, you'd better be ready for a bike's-lifetime of heckling in thick, gutteral, Hogan's-Heroes' Sauerkraut dialect. Zees ist zee Wurst Names vee effer haff Herd!

Great to hear! A lot of people have been clamoring for the opportunity to buy a @PROPAIN-Bicycles

Uhhhh. Not to be an ass, but both Hawaii and Alaska are part of the United States. Maybe you meant to say contiguous United States. That's an insane dollar amount for s&h to Hawaii btw...

I don't understand the haters on this thread. The bikes look rad and the customization options (when available) will be a nice refresher compared to some other brands. I don't think bike brands should follow the auto industries "trim package" price model, just let people get the components they want.

I’m sticking with the wal mart brands!

Can the TYEE CF be purchased as frame only?
  • 2 0
Its one of the FAQs, for the time being they are only offering full bikes.
  • 2 0
That sucks, always wanted to build one of them but can't do the complete nonsense.
  • 2 0
You can custom build from their website. Similar to Guerrilla Gravity's model.
  • 1 0
@brandaneisma: Yeah but the custom build ones aren't available in US yet. I tried, but it defaults to their euro site for now unfortunately.
  • 2 1
@ianswilson815: For the time being, we can only offer limited customisation options. But we are working on bringing the same options as in Europe to North America.
  • 2 0
@PROPAIN-Bicycles: It says you aren't offering custom builds because it would increase the wait times. Why no frame-only option then? Seems like a frameset would require the shortest wait time.

Do you have an estimate of when framesets will be available in the US?
  • 1 0
 @dlxah: Yes second that please!

@PROPAIN-Bicycles: thanks. Does that mean... In the spring? Or this riding season?
