Unreleased Slackline Hardtail Stolen From Stanton HQ

Mar 31, 2020
by James Smurthwaite

Stanton Bikes, based in Matlock, England, have had a pre-release version of its 3rd generation Slackline hardtail stolen from its headquarters.

The original Slackline was Stanton's first frame and the updated bike was set to be launched soon as part of the brand's 10th-anniversary celebrations. Unfortunately, it got stolen on Friday night, a few days before it could be made public and has now gone missing. From the CCTV video posted above (click on the right arrow to find it), it looks like the thieves cut a hole in one of the doors and ran off with two bikes.

The bike is a red Stanton hardtail with a distinctive "Next Gen 3" decal on the seat tube. Stanton have asked people to share the info far and wide to make the bikes too hot to handle.

bigquotesIn this crazy current climate when we really need to stick together and help each other, some people have got a bit too excited about what we have in the pipeline. On Friday night a team of (pretty rubbish) burglars broke in to Stanton HQ and stole the only Next Gen 3 Stanton Slackline in existence. This bike is the first of the new Gen 3 range and was set to be released on our 10th anniversary just a few days away. Make sure you keep an eye out for it on selling sights, it's pretty distinctive and is the only Stanton so for rocking the new "Next Gen 3" decal on the seat tube.

We would have loved to do a proper reveal on this frame as it's where it all started for us, but that will have to wait. The Bike was built and ready for testing and demoing but now we're back to square one....for now.

There will be more info on the Gen 3 Slackline very soon but for now, keep an eye out and stay safe!

Filthy bastards. May their crotch be infested with the fleas of a thousand camels, and their arms be too short to scratch.

That was beautifully poetic. Should help with the social distancing too.

Ive had a big delay last year sadly. But worked out just fine. They are nice dudes- they dont fullfill your orders on purpose.

@NotNamed: I think you mean they dont *not* fullfill your orders on purpose.

I don't want to offend my friends from the UK, cause we got our own well publicized problems here in these parts, but if all I ever did was read Pinkbike (which isn't too far from the truth, sadly) I'd believe that if you own a bike there, it will be stolen
  • 14 0
Nah that’s not true, you can’t believe everything you read. For example my beautiful custom built bike that’s sitting, wait, where the f*cks my bike?

@Peskycoots: No joke. Watch videos of punks ass dudes breaking into motorcycle shops, bike shops, whatever. It's brazen and it seems from afar that the UK police either don't give a crap or are horribly inept. Might have something to do with video now, try to catch later policies.... Or, as George Carlin once said of UK police, "Stop! Or I'll stay 'Stop' again!"

@Poulsbojohnny: pretty sure that was Robin Williams

@Poulsbojohnny: sadly it’s about a decade of austerity that’s cut police numbers to the bone. It’s a well understood problem now and the government seem to have realised that you do actually need public sector workers. Our police are legitimately world class and generally do a fantastic job.

@Peskycoots: This made me cry....thank you!

Used to live near there, once came back from an evening out to find a large part of the house roof had been stolen. They left my bikes though.
  • 2 0
 The roof??? Wow
  • 1 0
@donpinpon29: It was a flat roof extension made of lead. Disappointingly common in the UK so it was replaced with plastic.
  • 2 0
 @Riggbeck: Good old Pikeys...
No more cash deals at scrap yards now though so hopefully that sort of thing has died down.
  • 6 0
@Riggbeck: lead roof? they did you a favor lol.
  • 2 0
@gserrato: Britain has a long proud history of using poisonous building materials.
  • 6 0
That is one tidy looking bike - it's got me a bit 27.5 curious...
  • 4 0
Looks like it was a bit of an inside job, they knew what to grab and didn't take anything else.....
  • 4 0
Can't be an inside job. Who would steal and SX fitted bike? Joke's on them!
  • 2 0
@chezotron: Payback for using that crap on a premier bike?
  • 3 0
Did they break any social distancing rules while stealing the bike, though?

If so, the coppers might actually try to catch them.
  • 2 0
If anything it's great publicity and they should rename the bike the Slackline Stolen. It's so hot be careful it might get stolen.
  • 1 0
Holy Smeg you guys are celebrating 10 years. Sucks about the burglary but get in there Dan + crew! May this be the worst thing that happens in your next decade.
  • 3 0
Anything else taken, or just that? How did they know?
  • 1 0
Hope they get the bike back, and hopefully the publicity and pics of the bike looking so good on these articles get them a few extra sales that make up for it.
  • 3 4
Would-be capitalists operating as thieves. The lowest life form I can think of, comparable to viruses. Two bikes being selected should tell us this was a targeted theft. Obviously, yes. These guys knew what they were after well before their night started. Not impulse shoplifters. Inside information, most certainly. Unfortunately, we have to look to ourselves to secure our resources. Dye traps and scars to aid in identification The thieves could be stopped by a couple of territorial dogs like those used in this way for successfully for centuries. It may be time to create a new model line using K-9s as the theme.
  • 2 0
No worries, if it's a preproduction frame I'm sure it'll break in short order anyway.
  • 1 0
Nah bruh, it's a steel hardtail. They stole it cuz they're investing in their grandkids.
  • 2 0
question is, was this the prototype that came in a size big enough for people over 5ft11?
  • 2 0
Should be shot in the dick. Both of them.
  • 1 0
Probably NSFW...but f*ck it, your working from home right?

  • 2 0
Hey. Hey you thief ! Go f*ck yourself and give the bike back.
  • 1 0
The security video shows a bit of a dust problem in the shop. Recommend full-time mask use.
  • 1 0
From the video it does look like they knew what they were looking for specifically. Not trying to be rude.
  • 1 0
Bike thieves suck but if all they took is 1 bike this is a sweet ad for Stanton. That bike looks sick. Want.
  • 1 0
Not to worry, once the thieves see its fitted with Sram SX they will return it
  • 1 0
Hope they are caught and executed. People like that don't deserve to live on earth.
