It's a cool concept and well produced, but it lacked in riding radness. Not to hate on Finn because he's a phenomenal rider, but with the urban edits Fabio Wibmer has been putting out the bar has been raised. Like a lot.
  • 27 1
 That was my thought exactly
  • 38 1
Totally agree with this statement. Fabio has been wild. I found this segment looked weird ridden on a downhill bike. Just looked like a lot of inefficient pedaling.
  • 15 1
Fabio would have trippled the stairs on 1:11 and fakied the the last set..haha
  • 1 1
 totally agree
  • 10 1
Glad you said it, the editing was first class but only the moat jump excited me. Still, Finn's destined for great things.
  • 9 1
 I guess you're right
Fabio in Salzburg: youtu.be/-jDKJT2dDZQ
Fabio in Vienna: youtu.be/2traaBHJAoA

still a sweet edit, Finn!
and still, no one beats the style of SuperT in JIB Big Grin
  • 4 0
With the exception of the suicide no hander over the moat...that was pretty rad.
  • 1 0
@MatthewCarpenter: Oh, thanks man! Remember my mates and I went out to huck some stairs after seeing SuperT do that. Had forgotten that film, good times Smile
  • 2 1
@MatthewCarpenter: Yes there is still nothing like Jib.

I think you're all being a bunch of typical PB twats. The kid's in Quebec for a couple days to race and puts together a cool video and you're critiquing it? Fabio and Finn.
Finn just killed MSA. Fabio does awesome urban videos. What's the f*ckin point?
All above. f*ck you. You're what makes PB less than it should be. Grow up
  • 25 4
@kubaner: Actually, people expressing honest opinions of the videos they are seeing is NOT "what makes PB less than it should be". Middle-aged men overreacting to said opinions and ranting like drunken teenagers is what makes PB less than it should be : )
  • 5 1
Yeah it was lacking in radness but it was still good to watch. Unique in its on way. Just like not every video of a person riding down cliffs needs to be on the same level of the red bull rampage.
  • 6 6
Finn is a young kid and quite possibly on of the best cyclists in the world . Finn has no reason to be putting his health at risk to outdo Fabio... Finn can go faster, further and with absolute much more intetensity than Fabio will ever.
It's a sick edit and we have no need to be comparing/contrasting when we all know what Finn is all about about the same with Fabio
  • 5 3
@MJ4LIFERIDER: Fabio has an extensive street/trials background... Does Finn? This was honestly a pretty boring edit-many amatuers could have attempted the features in the edit, and if a comparitively unknown rider made something like this, Pinkbike would say it sucks. So why have double standards?
  • 4 1
@MJ4LIFERIDER: If you have ever watched bmx films you would find this extremely unimpressive, especially with the size of the gaps they hit without using a $10K dh bike - watch Trey Jones, Van Homan, Tom Dugan, Steven Hamilton, Garrett Byrnes, Chad Osborn, Colt Fake - all are good street riders. Your average street BMX rider can easily match or exceed the level of riding in this edit.
  • 5 1
@dea7hadder: great, stick them on a dh trail and see how they fair,
  • 1 1
@Geriatric-J: hahaha and your username just makes your answer even cooler
  • 1 0
 Apples to oranges.
  • 1 0
 @dea7hadder: I didn't like this video indeed...
  • 4 0
@dea7hadder: only downside of bmx edits is that not everybody is wearing an helmet, I really hate that, it always take the enjoyment out for me
  • 90 5
I like the interspersed shots of crowds versus empty street riding segments. Good concept and nice production.

 mountain bikings justin bieber
  • 20 1
exactly... but we don't have to feel the need to apologize for him though
  • 3 0
He'll be running over the MTB media paps in his truck soon.

How is he like bieber except for the fact that he's young and Canadian (which you could attribute to a lot of other mountain bikers)?
  • 1 0
 Hahahahah
  • 60 24
 Meh..
  • 1 0
It would have looked pretty similar to Rotorua!
  • 7 4
 Meh^2

For the record, Finn has skills to pay the bills. Stoked to root for him next season in the elites. However, for a red bull produced clip, this was the least exciting urban segment I've seen. Production and concept were top notch. Moat gap at the end was dope.
  • 11 0
It was like a bmx or trials edit but instead of mind-blowing tricks, they used shots of sprinting down the street in full moto kit and riding down stairs. Finn's amazing and Quebec is beautiful, but downhill bikes look better on dirt.
  • 32 0
I think that's the first time a garbage can was knocked over in Canada since the Canucks lost in the finals to the Bruins. Wink

No, I'm not a Bruins fan btw.
  • 8 0
The feeling ain't so bad as the Bruins best player is a Quebec local Razz
  • 2 0
That was a very happy time in my life.
  • 4 1
@t1000: It's funny when the Bruins usually do not hire local Massachusetts/New England talent but most of the squad consists of Quebec guys. While Montreal's team a lot of years consists of a lot of American players.
  • 2 0
 Haha, the vandal!
  • 1 0
@sds81: Funny how that works, huh?
  • 31 3
Good thing he jumped that moat at the end... may have never recovered from the comment onslaught otherwise.
  • 35 10
Nobody is remoatly interested in your comment
  • 14 0
much respect to Finn, he's a killer rider but if you want to see Quebec City Shredded...look up the old "Kranked 4: search for the Holey trail"...and or any QC Ryan Leech Edit.
  • 13 0
 Poutine!!!
  • 3 0
Quebecs greatest gift to the world!
  • 3 0
@ivanwing: That and Devinci bikes Big Grin
  • 7 0
With the title Purest Line I didn't expect a built ramp painted to hide it to a built landing with sod covering it to make it look natural. The kid rips in DH though.
  • 7 0
Cool to see the empty streets cut back and forth with the crowds in the editing. Creative.
  • 6 0
Yeah, that was cool...and hard to do, even at dawn I bet! Creative for sure.
  • 2 1
It's actually a stolen concept from Monster's Gymkhana videos but nice try
  • 4 2
Finn is a great rider, but this is a complete rip-off of the Monster videos featuring Ken Block and BJ Baldwin. I've never really cared for Specialized. They are about as uninspiring as the marketing team that made this video.
  • 2 2
 Red Bull ripped themselves off?
  • 2 0
@inter71: Are you saying that Red Bull owns Monster?
  • 7 3
Was watching, thinking back to walking those streets in old Quebec and stopping for some beer and poutine, and there it is! Great vid!
  • 4 0
One of my favorite cities. So much so, that my wife and I decided to get married there. So this is an instant favorite vid for me.
  • 5 0
Can't wait to see him in elites...
  • 5 1
i know he had better conditions than the top elites but he did lay down the fastest finals time...
  • 6 2
I know it's been said before, but there's no Canada like French Canada. It's ze best Canada in the land.
  • 3 5
For riding it's good, food, women, etc. Otherwise it's not the greatest to live. IE, they don't let dogs into their parks (it's a province full of whiny old people ruining it for everyone else), and that in itself is a deal breaker for me. Spent a LOT of time in QC. Love it, but it's got it's limits in terms of life. Eveything is backwards, it's like they say "they do advance green early in Ontario, well we will do the opposite!" (anyone who knows, knows).
  • 3 0
 @atrokz:

I know what you mean guy. I've worked in that province a number of times usually for months at a time.

Nice spot but I'd never live there. But then again I am a dog lover and that's a province full of haters.
  • 2 0
@atrokz: About the dog thing, it's not province-wide; each city has different rules. I will agree with you on the old whiny people tho, it's true.

@TheR: It's funny you say that. See I was born and raised in Quebec. I lived in the west for quite some time, loved it. I did realize one thing while I was there: Canada is the only place in the world where it's not cool to speak French. Great majority of people who don't like Quebec are Canadians. Let's face it : the language is still a big issue even tho most people here speak both french and english.
  • 2 0
@sickn3ss: I looked it up after getting kicked out of a provincial park (bruno) last Saturday. Apparently only 3 large parks have a pilot project as of this year, and some municipalities have some parks dogs allowed. I was pretty surprised and bummed out about it. I love a lot of Quebec, its culture, the environment etc but there are certainly some pretty weird things about it. And Montreal roads make no sense, even in the newer areas. Haha.
  • 2 0
@atrokz: I don't hate the dogs, i hate the owners who don't pick up turds. It only takes a couple and the argument for banning dogs is made. They are the daesh to your islam. Who's gonna deal with it?
  • 2 0
@sickn3ss: I've been to Montreal. I thought it was a beautiful city, and had no problem with the people.

I've also been to Vancouver, Whistler and Victoria. All beautiful places, but regarding that legendary Canadian "niceness" -- I thought a lot of people were rather passive-aggressive, especially in Vancouver and Whistler.

I've also seen the hostility to the French language. I work in media, and I was at an athletic event in Victoria, and a French-speaking reporter from a French-Canadian news outlet asked one of the English-speaking Canadian athletes if he spoke French, and he was just dripping with attitude when he said no. So the resentment is real. I've seen it first hand.

One caveat I need to add to the passive-aggressive attitude I found in Vancouver -- it seems to come primarily from the dudes. Some of the most beautiful women without attitudes I've met seem to come from Canada. If any of those ladies had grown up in LA, Chicago or New York, they'd think they were Oprah.
  • 1 0
@BenPea: there are laws here for picking up, it's not a problem in the rest of Canada, it was a ban because they 'thought' it would be a problem, now they are slowly allowing them apparently. It's a non issue, rowdy teens and graffiti are actual issues there, not dogs. Keep in mind you're French, different world here.
  • 2 0
@atrokz: You're probably right about that. The French have a very liberal attitude to bodily excretia, whatever beast produces it. There are laws here, but there's also very little policing or f*cks given. I get my kids to play in doggy pooping areas as it's the least likely place to contain dog shit.
  • 1 0
Maybe the infrastructure wasn't there, but sometimes you've got to play the cards you're dealt. Personally I think Fabio Wibmer set the new standard for this kind of riding and the rest is still playing catch up, but hey, game on!
  • 3 0
A name like that and it wasn't called "The Ilest Line"? I feel that the wordplay alone would have made this a viral video on the YouTubes.
  • 1 0
There's no need to compare the two. They're not trying to be the same. Fabio is an incredible talent. But... Finn's video is extremely well made, he rips, it's less about tricks and more about going fast on creative lines. There's no denying that Fabio's talent, he's insane on a bike. But it's wrong to take away from what Finn has put together here, which is a really solid short video that any one of us would be proud to put our name on. Congrats to both riders for dominating your sport and putting out great content for the rest of us to enjoy and argue over. Cheers!

I wish I had googles like those
  • 3 1
Poutine! There should have been crepes in there as well. This just reminds me that it has been to long since I have been to Quebec. Great city.
  • 4 1
 2 Points to make here

1. How many of you haters were doing that at the age of 17?

2. Quebec looks amazing.
  • 2 1
Doing what, sprinting down the street with a $10,000 DH kit?

Did he come to Taxco? if not, he will love it.
Not as beautiful as Quebec but a lot longer and steeper.

Cheers
  • 2 1
That's really interesting that he had the opportunity to rise through those areas without anyone there. Clearly movin up in the world I see. That was a really creative edit.
  • 2 0
a few early mornings there, that place is packed at 7 am usually and Finn for the Winn
  • 1 0
That shot near the end of him jumping the wall... Good thing the Americans didn't have DH bikes in the 1770s, or the outcome of that battle may have been different! Wink
