Qualifying Results from the Mont-Sainte-Anne DH World Cup 2022

Aug 5, 2022
by Ed Spratt
Myriam Nicole won here back in 2019 on a slightly different beast of a track. Now a few years on the changes seem to suite her well.

After yesterday's Timed Training session riders are back between the tape to fight for the top qualifying spots ahead of tomorrow's racing. Myriam Nicole and Bernard Kerr went fastest in timed training, but qualifying is where we will really see how fast riders can hit the course.

Check out the results below.

Finn for his 1st Win, on home soil.......
  • 43 1
Mega qualy run. Hope he holds P1
  • 26 0
He put up a hell of a time
  • 47 0
Considering the way he waxed poetic about the impact of Steve Smith winning here... I'd say he wants this one bad
  • 4 0
 This can be epic!
  • 21 0
Ya I understand it's qualis and people aren't putting everything out there, you still see some wicked close times, especially for how long the track is. and then Finn puts 3.5 seconds into everyone... He is flying and so good to see him come to form this year.
  • 4 0
Finn's time is on another lvl
  • 7 0
I really hope he takes his first win
  • 7 10
@IsaacWislon82: He's realised if he doesn't do it this year, Jackson will probably pip him.
  • 5 1
@inside-plus: I think that may have something to do with it, his status as the world's fastest Canuck will be on the line very soon
  • 4 0
@ReeferSouthrland: me too. The guy really deserves it, even if he's young and has plenty of time to achieve it.
  • 3 2
If you listen to Bernard's bike and everyone else during his LSD practice video, the upper track was loaded with sniper rocks. My theory is Finn got away without popping a tire and everyone behind him made sure they got through it without rim damage. Unfortunately several top guys still got popped up top
  • 2 0
He just needs to keep it together for race run!

 Putting the Can in Canada

This has to be his day , both Bruni and Vergier Out , Pierron could take it easy to ensure overall tittle , I am happy I have Finn in my fantasy team
  • 7 0
 @jpnbrider: Pierron never holds back.
  • 2 0
@kerberos: not sure his manager will not say a word to him after what happened to Daprela lately who screwed his overall tittle in the money time , but we will see that , still put my money on Finn

 Cathro is in Smile
  • 5 0
How many qualify? Is it 60?
  • 42 0
Let's be honest, this is the first rider result we check for
  • 10 0
@rcrocha: elite men is top 60 by time, elite women is top 15. Protected riders (anyone marked with a "P" in the results) will be added to the race start list as long as they attempted a qualifying run. Protected riders that DNS in qualifying are not eligible for the race.

Angel Suarez and Mille Johnset are both protected riders and attempted a qualifying run, so elite men's field for the race tomorrow will be 61 total (top 60 by time plus Angel) and elite women will be 16 total (top 15 qualifiers plus Mille).

I feel like they need to be putting the pinkbike results immediately under the top 5 for each field. They have a following and might be loosely related to this website
  • 3 0
 @DC1988: second rider is Wyn
  • 58 0
doing the lord's work here. why cant pinkbike just link us to this? i swear, navigating the UCI website is purposefully difficult
  • 9 0
Wow - I'm not trapped in that little window any more - freeee!
  • 19 0
 @sooner518: They can't link outside Outside. :-D
  • 3 0
@sooner518: for sure. another of the UCI's redeeming qualities

So good to see Jordan Williams and Jackson pushing each other this year. Really wish we could see them live!
  • 2 0
Yes is awesome duels ,when they both enter mens elite will be even better ,however i want to see who will progress better as men ,jordan got so much potential ,just look at diprela Good luck to all
  • 3 0
jackson was right there at every split until the end... did he crash on a no hander trick at the finish or something???
  • 2 0
@snomaster: i am guessing flat tire
  • 13 0
@snomaster: Jackson rear tire flatted and peeled the tire off the rim somewhere after the Split 4 section. He was up at Split 4.
  • 10 0
 @shirk-007: I should've never guessed that Jackson didn't land a trick
  • 21 0
Holy shit Vali destroyed the entire field. 2nd place was 14 seconds behind.
  • 2 0
Interesting that this seems to be the second season in a row that she had a relatively slow start, but is looking like the one the beat by the end
  • 1 0
Feels like her junior qualis again Smile
  • 1 0
Balanche is out … not sure she would be 14 seconds back .
  • 22 0
Blenki in 13th! Nice - havent seen him that high up for a while.
  • 2 0
Was thinking the same thing. Always nice to see him up there.
  • 2 0
 Yeah boy!
  • 22 2
Minnaar on his way to his 24th victory ;-)
  • 9 0
It does seem like a big man's track. Long bikes and extra mass/height are going to help carry speed. It doesn't count for everything but cant hurt.
  • 16 0
Yeah Bodhi!! Q2!! way to represent the West Kootenays on the world stage!!!
  • 4 0
 It's awesome to see
  • 2 0
I wonder what happened to his main competition for his age - Tegan Cruz?
  • 18 0
 Finn with the heater!
  • 19 6
Anyone reckon Kaos Seagrave and Luffman are ever going to pull a decent result out of the bag?

FMD have this huge tourbus visiting race to race and their riders live a "rock n roll"-esque lifestyle with the blue haircuts and a film crew following them about for their documentary.... but they can't even make it through quali on most races.
I know Tahnee is out and Phoebe Gale has taken a few wins but the mens really need to up their game?? Otherwise might as well just have me racing for them.

All show and no go really.
  • 10 0
I think Kaos & Kade have gone the same way as Brendog, living the freeracer lifestyle. Personally I don't mind as they are pretty entertaining & massively skilled when they ride. Don't think a podium is on the cards tho.
  • 12 0
@chriss78: Brendog was always a podium threat in his younger days.
  • 2 0
Luffman is only first year Elite and has just come back from breaking his wrist in leogang practice. He did alright at Lourdes!
  • 2 0
@inside-plus: junior champ! Definitely Was a threat, just never materialised. Fair play to him making a career & securing his future. Love seeing him at Rampage etc.
  • 1 1
I don't know if he still is, but Sam Reynolds was / is part of the Polygon UR, resp. NS Bikes UR Team. When did you see him ride at the world cups?
  • 1 0
@chriss78: I think the day Blenky won, Brendog was just about on a winner but he crashed. He left Ironhorse though and still had some good top 10s the following couple of years, hes had a fair few results tbh, I think he would have won one if Iron Horse kept going. Blenky left Yeti too and couldn't find that pace either
  • 2 0
@inside-plus: was just telling my wife about when Blenki won and how crazy that race was back then. Oh the memories
  • 2 0
@stormracing: Yeah, back when Sam Hill dominated on that track. Pretty hard to beat him but Blenky did it.
  • 16 0
Good to see Aimi Kenyon up there!
  • 16 0
 Go Bernard Kerr go!!!!
  • 2 0
 Bird-gnar Kerr
  • 15 0
 Cathro to the finals!
  • 14 0
Fuuck. Dak. I hope he is ok.
  • 3 0
Yeah, hope he is OK. Do you know if he is protected at all? He has a #19 but he didn't have a P by his name for some reason.
  • 2 7
flag brandaneisma (Aug 5, 2022 at 11:38) (Below Threshold)
@RCederholm: Only top 15 are protected
  • 17 1
@brandaneisma: Top 20 are protected actually.
  • 2 0
@pisgahgnar: But why given his 19 plate?
  • 2 0
@Bomadics: Strange - i thought the UCI changed it to 15 this year, but looks like im wrong. Wonder why Dak isn't protected then??
  • 15 1
terribly sorry, dak! totally my fault, put you on my fantasy team last minute yesterday
  • 14 0
@RCederholm: From the UCI regulations 4.9.031 “Protected riders” to the final are:
1. riders ranked in the top 5 women elite and the top 10 men elite of the final world
cup standings of the previous season
2. the best ranked riders from the current world cup standings, that are not included
in point 1 above, until a total of 10 women elite and 20 men elite are reached
  • 1 0
@k2theg: Any idea how that works when there are injuries or folks missing races? For example, Reece Wilson and Danny Hart are not at MSA. From the start list, it looks like their protected spots from last year's overall are not passed on to someone else for this weekend. I'd guess the same is true for Matt Walker's spot based on his position this year.
  • 3 0
 @colbird:
3. if any riders as described under 1. and 2. above do not confirm participation at an
event they will not be replaced.
  • 12 0
Vergier out according to his IG...
  • 10 0
 Loic out too.
  • 6 0
@DBone95: Damn, this track is beating the s**t out of everyone.
  • 16 0
Doesn't this mean all Trek Factory DH riders are now out? Reece taking time off, Kade out, now Loris

Really hoping for Iles to finnish first, but I'd also love the GOAT do gosty things and take win 23.
  • 10 0
Finn for his 1st win on home soil and Minnaar for repeat world champs!
  • 1 0
Perkele... Finn finnish first would be vaikuttava!
  • 2 0
Finnish Finn will finish first for sure
  • 9 0
 Minnaar is a damn cyborg!
  • 6 0
Being 48, older expert (way back semi-pro) DH slug myself....Minnaar is always a top favorite. Helps me validate my age. Big Grin
  • 9 0
@bman33: The thing is - he's soo damn good for the sport - before racers were hanging it up thinking they aged out by their early thirties - now he's showing everyone, you can go on as long as you have fire and will and be right the hell up there!
  • 4 1
@neimbc: Agree 100%. I still race 'old man expert' occasionally DH and Enduro and still in decent shape and can ride (BMX backgroud joke Big Grin ) . I will never be , nor was, a WC level rider, but great to see guys like him showing you can be in great shape in your 40's. He def inspires me a great deal for sure.
  • 2 0
@neimbc: Yeah, hard to make excuses about age with him around.
  • 8 0
something happened to Mille Johnset or whats up?
  • 2 0
 Nervously refreshing instagram......
  • 3 0
Millie just updated on Instagram, she broke the beam so she could race tomorrow but is apparently a bit beat up. Looking particularly at the Elite men's qualy results I'd say there are more than the usual number of DNS and DNFs.
  • 7 0
Heater from Brosnan, let's go! If we don't have a Canadian winning on home soil, I'd love to see him take it
  • 5 0
Ben and Thibaut both qualified and Thibaut a good chunk ahead of Ben... Great to see! Hope to see Thibaut as a regular in finals and the live stream by next season, would be great!
  • 4 1

  • 7 0

 FINN!!!

If Balanche is out for just this week, and ... .... Nicole wins, Nicole will be only 5 points out of first in the standings going into the final race.... or.... .....Holl wins, Holl will be 119 points out of first. If I'm not mistaken, Vali and Myriam are the only two who could finish ahead of Cami in the overall for the year. Myriam is currently 114 points ahead of Vali, including today's qualifying points.
  • 8 5
then let's cross fingers for Hrastnik and Hoffmann that Cami can keep the lead...
  • 7 0
Camile broke her collar bone so I don't see her returning before 2023. Short of some bad results by Vali and Nicole I don't see her winning the championship. Shame because she's been a class act this season.
  • 7 0
 Finn for Stevie!
  • 6 0
Any word on what happened to Fearon?
  • 6 0
The Chainsaw is strong in this one.
  • 5 0
Dakota! The poor guy needs a break!
  • 6 0
 Him and Neko both!
  • 4 0
What a massive run from Vali! Looks like Nicole crashed or had a mechanical though?
  • 2 0
Yeah a sudden 10 second loss. Looks easy to make a mistake on this track though!
  • 6 0
Myriam lost 6 seconds at the third an another nine at the fourth split. But less than one at the last. So maybe two crashes? With a mechanical she most likely would have lost also on the last split.
  • 2 0
 @noox: Ah yes that's a fair point!
  • 2 0
@noox: 1 crash or 1 mistake to lead to multiple split losses because of momentum. It take time to get back up to full race speed.

Miriam's speed is there. If she runs clean she won't be 14 seconds off the back.
  • 2 0
@onemanarmy: Yes, her speed is definitely there! But as she lost more time at the 4th split I assumed it where two crashes. But it's just speculation.
  • 4 0
Really impressed by the times the Junior make this year ! Not only Goldstone , the level is so high
  • 1 0
It would be iconic for Finn to win his first here given how close he was to Stevie. I’ve met both him and Stevie and you couldn’t meet two greater guys. All my luck for this one - remember ‘this lap is for Stevie’

Much less French Canadian than expected

What do you mean? I would love to understand the joke... lol
  • 3 0
@Timo82: Two of the top Frenchman are out (Loris & Loic)
  • 1 0
@bman33: I doubt this is what he meant as they are french from France, not french canadian from Quebec... lol

It would be like making a joke about people from USA and UK, like if they were the same because they all speak english. Razz
  • 2 0
@Timo82: I mean, open to any other suggestions, but if I had to put money on it, my bet is the fact those two were out.

His baby was born at home while he was in Snowshoe, complications required urgent surgery. He went home to be with his family.

  • 1 0
Anyone remember how many Junior Men qualify? Is it top 20 or top 25?
  • 1 0
 25 afaik
  • 2 0
 Damn Vali!
  • 2 4
I assume everyone else flatted or had issues otherwise that is pretty convincing!
  • 5 4
@paulskibum: When she puts together a mistake free run her times are nearly unbeatable. Very similar to Amaury right now. It really comes down to how many mistakes she makes. Truly next level speeds.

She can put up times a lot like what Rachel used to do put. 6-8-10 seconds on the field.
  • 4 0
@onemanarmy: I wouldn't say unbeatable (or even nearly), Pompon often has faster splits. It's a good battle when they both get clean runs
  • 2 0
 Brosnan's back Baby!
  • 1 0
Would love to see him podium. Yeah the Aussies!!!
  • 1 0
1st place Finnish tomorrow, lets go! Big Grin
  • 1 1
Jackson and Gracey taking it easy for qualies?
  • 12 0
 Jackson flatted
  • 4 3
Doesn't look like it, Jackson was on pace with Jordan before losing 10 seconds after the last split.
  • 8 0
@mluk2004: Jackson had his back tyre hanging off the rim at the end of his run.
  • 2 2
Why does the fantasy show close way before qaulis or the race?!?!
  • 1 0
 Dh*
  • 7 0
@jarrod801: So that you dont change your team based on qualis
  • 1 0
@gabiusmaximus: I guess last year it seemed like there was more time when the team edit opened before the race
