Qualifying Results from the Snowshoe World Cup DH #2 2021

Izabella Yankova shutting down the junior womens show just one more time this time with 5 seconds to spare.

After practice and Timed Training sessions on the revised track for the final round, riders are back between the tape to fight for the top qualifying spots ahead of tomorrows racing. Marine Cabirou and Dakotah Norton went fastest in Timed Training, but qualifying is where we will really see how fast riders can hit the course.

In the Junior racing, Siel Van Der Velden and Jordan Williams came out fastest. Siel Van Der Velden laid down a great run seeing her go fastest by over six seconds. British riders Jordan Williams and Ethan Craik lead the Junior Men by over a second.

Myriam Nicole is back at the front for the Elite Women as she finds nearly five seconds on Marine Cabirou. Camille Balanche completes the top three 7.413 seconds back. Snowshoe race one winner Vali Höll crosses the line in fourth with over eight seconds to make up tomorrow if she wants to secure another World Cup win.

For the Elite Men, Loic Bruni sets the fastest time of the day by over one and a half seconds on Finn Iles. Troy Brosnan looks to be back to his usual rapid pace as he goes into their place and is the only other rider to come within two seconds of Bruni. Ben Cathro had another great ride and qualifies for finals tomorrow.

Check out the full results below.

I wish redbull would air the qualies. Even if it was just a couple of cameras and no commentary I'd happily watch it!

 Bring it RedBull!
  • 14 0
They could use it to work out the angles and sections for live coverage. Although the likely outcome would be a small number of comments appreciating the coverage, a billion angry comments complaining about the coverage, and the same billion angry comments on race day complaining about coverage. Hard to motivate yourself to spend the time and effort knowing the only thing you are really only going to get out of it is a second day of screaming keyboards!
  • 5 0
@tkrug: they actually film it or even parts, because they show some runs on the finals day broadcast. And you see them pointing the cameras aswell. I assume they do a „test run“ as everything has to work perfectly for the big show
  • 5 1
Agreed. They have done a lot for the sport but the fact that they have monopolized these events kind of sucks for the fans. I remember when they wouldn't let Castro film anything a couple seasons ago.

It would be awesome if they expanded their coverage - even if they charged a couple $ to view the "extended" coverage of the event, I'd pay.
  • 3 0
@MRwillP: careful friend..those $ cause the barn doors to the pitchforks to be opened quicker than my mouth after shinning some brand new T-Macs.
  • 22 1
@MRwillP: Red Bull really hate Cuba for sure.

qualies live is a little tricky with the 30sec startintervals. just seeing the riders roll into the finish is not very interesting, and with 6-8 riders on track at the same time, there is no way to show enough action in an understandable way.
  • 4 0
I’d rather have the juniors first
  • 5 0
Damn - Thibault got carted off. One, I hope he’s ok and two, this seems worthy of being included in the write-up.
  • 1 0
agreed, with motogp I love watching every practice session, qualifying etc, but I guess we still get coverage to some extent which is better than nothing. By that I mean video shorts, photo articles etc
  • 2 0
@fivesixseven: Definitely a logistical nightmare to show the action in a traditional sense, but could live stream the main course cameras and let viewers switch between to follow the action they choose - keep an eye on a particularly spicy section or switch ahead and follow a rider down the course.

Likely too much risk of someone mooning one of the cameras, but would be an interesting way to see whats going on during Quali's
  • 2 0
What’s weird, having been there today, it appeared that all the cameramen were in place and filming.
  • 1 0
@brainbckt: Red bull put out a qualies video showing the top three runs
  • 1 1
 @MRwillP: Cathro for dictator.....
  • 56 0
 Cathro 45th ,yeah boy !
  • 4 0
I need a new T-shirt: Ben Is In!
  • 2 0
how do I add him to my fantasy team?
  • 2 2
 @jackalope: that's what she said.
  • 1 0
How common is it for riders to be held up in qualifying runs? Has Cathro been particularly unlucky, or is this a pretty common occurrence? He posted a vid from Jackson Goldstone in his Insta stories, and it’s really clear he’s considerably slowed down (by Goldstone’s increasingly exasperated cries of ‘Nooo!’ if nothing else).
  • 1 0
Man I'm so excited for him. It must feel so good for him to be able to come back like he has. I'd love to see him keep at it and keep moving up the ranks for next season.
  • 15 0
ahhhh looks like Jackson went down! hopefully he is alright and turns it around on race day for a nice long sit on the hot seat!
  • 2 0
Anyone know if junior men/women have protected riders like the elites classes?
  • 7 0
@kcy4130: yes but not has many. Top 3 for men, top 2 for women.
  • 4 0
At least he's already secured 1st overall during the last race. He basically doesn't need to race this on, it's just for pride sake.
  • 2 0
@kcy4130: junior women don't have qualifying rules, they just need to start qualys and they get to race. Top 2 o 3 junior men are protected, I don't remember exactly.
  • 1 0
@bgoldstone: Nice, thanks for the info!
  • 4 0
By looking at the split times, looks like he rode pretty good before and after a +/- 10s time loss at split 2.
  • 2 0
@t1000: pulled back 3 seconds by the finish. FAST
  • 10 0
He’s all good, no injuries. Top 3 junior men are protected and junior women have seeding
  • 1 0
Knowing Jackson, he will be just fine
  • 3 0
@baileygs: thanks for the info. Right from the source too!
  • 17 0
 Sick Mick for the win
  • 5 1
That would be awesome seeing as it's his last WCDH race.
  • 10 0
I think the the last race should have quali points - otherwise it's just for seating position. Almost pointless really - might as well just be a timed run. Yes/no?
  • 3 0
It used to be points paying, but after Gwin basically won the overall during qualis they goy rid of the points for the last quali run of the year.
  • 12 0
Great to see Big Ben has made the finals again
  • 3 0
I don't know if he'll regret it when it starts to pish doon or feel right at home and send it....
  • 1 0
@Bob-Agg: right at home. British grease is like nothing else.
  • 12 0
 Thibaut just DNFed
  • 10 1
 rip everybody fantasy dh Frown
  • 17 0
@Manutheshredder: he's protected and may start before the expected rain now
  • 3 0
@bgoldstone: You're right I forgot about that. Cheers!
  • 1 0
@bgoldstone: interesting...gonna have to check that hourly in the AM!
  • 3 1
He was off course and needed a medic, from race radio it sounded like they were slow getting to him. :-(
  • 11 0
I walked past him after qualifying getting carted down the mtn after the first rock gardens. I talked to Elliot and it looks like a broken ankle. Hoping for the best, but it doesn't look promising. :-(
  • 2 0
 @IanJF: goddamn
  • 3 0
@IanJF: the other greenbike site has a photo on their stories of him going down on a stretcher with lower leg wrapped up.
  • 2 0
@PTyliszczak: Pretty much what I saw as well. Sucks.
  • 8 2
I would have been surprised at a full effort run for Jackson here. Really no sense. Almost better to roll the gate, and take as another warm up / learning run. save energy and body, play it safe(r) and decide if you drop a banger tomorrow or not. Incredible season, wrapped up the overall. Head into off-season and potential negotiations all good. And ya Finn for the win here... let's go. Be great to see another 4 Canadians on the podiums at a WC.
  • 5 0
12 second jump between the first and second spits, then he gained the rest of the way. I'd assume he had a crash/problem
  • 2 0
Have a look at the splits. Definitely just had a crash or problem.
  • 1 0
Eh a Canadian winning a WC is close enough for me to be proud #northamericansolidarity
  • 11 1
SuperBruni is back ! Hope Thibaut is fine...
  • 1 1
Bruni crushed it! Hopefully he shares some knowledge in the team tent!
  • 3 1
Bruni may snag the overall with a win tomorrow
  • 1 0
@makripper: I definitely don't enve the position recent events have found Daprela in after such a strong start to the season, Bruni and Loris both have a fair shot at it, Daprela reasonably could find himself knocked back to third. Untimely puns aside, gutted for him and how things have wrapped up TBH.
  • 2 1
@tkrug: yeah he was really consistent. Too bad hes had bad luck in the states. He's got a bright future in elites
  • 9 0
 Cathro dropping in!
  • 4 0
is he qualified with that result?
  • 7 0
 45th for the Line Guy!
  • 5 0
@rbarbier12: The line king's back on his throne!
  • 8 0
 WHAT HAPPENED TO DANNY! NOOO
  • 6 0
given the lack of points & impending race day weather, wonder if there's going to be some tactical qualifying runs.
  • 2 0
True. Why would yo want to go all out for a winning run that means nothing? And with possible rain later in the afternoon - it be better to take it easy and go down earlier on race day, then ride a possible crappy wet/slick track?
  • 1 0
Is this particular race not giving the usual 50 points to the qualies winner (and so on..)?
  • 3 0
@Javierpdx: Yes - no points awarded - all points are in the race only.
  • 1 0
@neimbc: someone forgot to explain strategery to the fast guys.
  • 1 0
Looks like it'll be dry. Anyone seen rain forecast?
  • 2 0
@zstover: Yeah I know - we reason it out - but they just hammer regardless. That's why I'm here commenting and they're there riding.
  • 1 0
Trying to go early at Snowshoe is the opposite of what you want to do. It's glassy in the woods just from the fog hitting the mountain all night and morning. If anything, if it rains at Snowshoe, you actually want a creek running down the track during your run. It's about the driest you can ride Snowshoe in the wet.
  • 9 1
 Pompon-Pee-Doo!!!
  • 4 0
If you're looking at the live timing it's under the XC/DHI#7 entry... that UCI website is a gem!
  • 5 0
 What happened to Danny Hart?
  • 5 0
Cami has properly stepped up eh...
  • 4 0
Daprela DNF again! Wonder if he is alright?
  • 2 0
Hope so. He's always pushing. He's on my fantasy, and probably yours too!
  • 1 0
 Danny Hart DNF too?
  • 1 0
 He broke his ankle
  • 1 0
 @Juan007: Hart or Daprela?
  • 2 0
 @MoonDogg: Daprela
  • 2 0
@Juan007: no way! What an unlucky chap Frown Was a dead on for the overall before Snowshoe
  • 3 0
what happened to Phoebe? That wraps up the overall for Izabela and with a win Siel can move up to 3rd overall.
  • 2 0
 She crashed in practice
  • 3 0
Does the whole family have PB logins?
  • 3 0
Heavy rain with 44 riders still to go. Cathro podiums!

It could happen…couldn’t it?
  • 4 0
Yes Cathro, back in the finals. 2 on the trott, go get em lad
  • 3 0
Can someone tell me how the track conditions are?
  • 5 0
That's the big question. If it's wet, that's going to be a huge factor.
  • 1 0
@Bob-Agg: Good stuff. Looks a bit more like Europe on that cam view than I'd have expected. Looks like there's a bee's nest near the cam as well.....

What's that? yes. boss...working on that, now!
  • 1 0
@suspended-flesh: Is there another Europe? Just wondering...
  • 1 0
@Bob-Agg: Currently the only live stream of the event!
  • 2 0
Just got back to the hotel. It's dry and fast ( for now)
  • 2 0
It’s very dry. Dry enough that they had a couple trail crew members wetting down a few spots during the practice run. Slight chance of rain tonight and tomorrow.
  • 1 0
@tablesaw: You can’t tell with Snowshoe. We were riding slightly down mountain before Qualis and got caught in torrential downpour.
  • 3 0
Can someone tell me how many riders have protected status?
  • 1 2
Wouldn't that be far too simple of a list for UCI to put out prior to and following qualifying?
  • 4 1
@blowmyfuse: It's on the qualification start lists. Riders with a P beside their name are protected.
  • 4 1
What happened to Charlie Harrison. ?
  • 4 0
 Come on Finn
  • 5 0
Finn is on fire!!!! This has to be good for his confidence, knowing he's legitimately a major contender now. I really really love to see him secure a win, such a nice guy.
  • 3 0
Finn is getting good results now! Also impressed to see Siel van der Velden right up there.
  • 1 0
Surprised to see Minnaar with a DNS. I thought he was going to at least roll through to give him the option to race if he wanted.
  • 1 1
He's a protected rider, so he really doesn't need to qualify if he doesn't want to.
  • 2 0
@jomacba: he still needs to at least start his qualifying run to get to finals
  • 3 0
@jomacba: i think you have to at least start qualifiers to race the main. protected or not.
  • 1 0
@bgoldstone: Exactly, his plan was to just roll out of the gate, not to actually finish a run.
  • 1 0
@bgoldstone: that's a fair point. An oversight on my end.
  • 2 1
Having suffered a separated shoulder myself (same injury as Minnaar picked up), I’m not surprised. Being able to steer through a rock garden was the absolute last thing that came back during the weeks of recovery.
  • 3 0
Cathro only 45th this time, but made up time in the last segment?
  • 4 0
Caught up the 30s guy in front and couldn't get past him for a bit. Cost hime a good 2 or 3 seconds.
  • 2 0
Amaury 8th with a busted derailleur for the last couple of sectors, watch out for this man tomorrow!
  • 2 0
Can we have a study about who has to do what to win the overall ???
  • 3 0
@danstonQ: Loris finish ahead of Bruni win
Bruni win, loris second
Bruni 2nd, loris 5th
Bruni 3rd, loris 9th
Bruni 4th loris 13th
Bruni 5th, loris 16th.
  • 1 0
 @chrismac: Nice !
  • 1 0
I do not know the weather forecast for tomorrow. But I would like a lot of water.
  • 2 0
Stop carping on about Danny. Eel be alright and have a Whale of a time.
  • 2 0
My wife heard me watching a video with him speaking during it. She asked if he was ok and what was wrong with his voice. Lol.
  • 1 1
does his bike have a cod or even number?
  • 2 1
Live timing shoes Gwinn has a start time? I guess i'll have to wait a few more minutes to see if this is true.
  • 2 0
 NM looks like a DNS
  • 2 0
What did happen to the redcar rocket?
Anyone know please?
  • 1 0
 What happend with Daprela?
  • 1 0
 I was wondering the same.
  • 2 1
@zstover: just saw a storie on vitalmtb which shows Daprela being carried away on a stretcher…
  • 2 0
 @zstover: on insta btw
  • 2 0
went off-line, over the bars, suspected concussion and broken ankle
  • 2 0
@bgoldstone: that looked really gnarly. Poor guy must be shook.
  • 2 0
@bgoldstone: Jesus christ. Poor dude. I really thought he had the overall. He's taken some terrible crashes in these last two races. I hope this doesn't shake his confidence for next season.
  • 1 0
Saw him on the stretcher at the bottom of the hill. Definitely out, but was in good spirits.
  • 1 0
Anyone know UK start time for the race?
  • 1 0
6:45pm for the men’s coverage on red bull.
  • 1 0
 @dannyboybiker: Nice one, cheers man.
  • 1 0
50% chance of rain starting at 2:00 PM. Men's race start time 1:45 PM.
  • 2 0
 Come on Troy!
  • 1 0
Is Thibaut protected to race the finals, in case he's okay?
  • 1 0
Some unfortunate names on the DNF. Is Danny good?
  • 1 0
 Is Gwin basically done now...?
  • 1 0
It does not matter, he has the record of 5 races out of 7 possible in a season ... also 5 World Cups throughout his career ... to enjoy and fill them with Champagne for life.
  • 1 0
 Go Finn!!!
  • 1 4
A thoughtful write up would have included Loris and Thibaults results and the updated points gap. Gotta be getting close.
  • 3 0
There’s no points for qualifying in the last round…
