Tahnee Seagrave took her maiden elite win here last year and looked good on track today although she did go down quite hard in timed training and didn t complete a run.

FULL RESULTS AND LIVE TIMING.

Not a bad day in the mountains for quali runs. Austria treated riders to a tame afternoon of weather, but with potential rain in the forecast for tomorrow, riders might find the course to have a few more variables headed into finals.

Thibaut Daprela took first in qualifying today for junior men, with Kye A'Hern trailing him by less than half a second. Kade Edwards took the third spot, more than a second and a half back from Daprela. In junior women, Valentina Holl continued her domination, but Anna Newkirk cut into Holl's usual near-30 second lead, coming in just over four seconds back in second. Could Valentina's supremacy be challenged tomorrow in finals?

Last weekend's winner, Tahnee Seagrave, led the elite women's field today. Rachel Atherton had a solid crash, coming in mid-pack and missing out on any qualifying points. In elite men, it was a great day for the French, taking three of the top five spots. Amaury Pierron, Loic Bruni, and Loris Vergier all crossed the line within a second of each other. But, they were all bested by Brook Macdonald who came in second, and Luca Shaw who earned the top spot.

Why are they bothering with qualifying when we all know timed training is the real deal. Sorry couldn’t help myself.
  • + 35
Vali Holl would have been 5th in elite, brilliant stuff!
  • + 11
Is it sad that I saw her four second gap and my gut reaction was, “why such a small gap?”

My second reaction was, “shut up self, what are you thinking, that’s insane!”

Her riding blows me away, I hope she stays injury free, she’s got a long, bright future ahead of her!

@aks2017: I started getting annoyed with the hype surrounding Vali, I thought it was all bluster and virtue-signalling. So I figured that if I showed how close the top Juniors were to the Elite Men it might put some perspective in the discussion...
I'm happy to admit in this case that I was wrong. Vali is absolutely the real deal. Her times in qualifying in Leogang and Fort Bill were better as a percentage (roughly 0.5%) when compared with the top Elite Women's qualifier than the Juniors with the Elite Men which is an ultra-competitive field; those guys have every reason to put a good time down in qualifying.
To put it perspective, 0.5% at an elite level is often the difference between Gold and no medal at all. In Elite Men, 0.5% from Luca's qualifying time and you're in 4th son. To be so far ahead of her elite peers, male or female, is extraordinary. It will be very interesting to see how far she goes.

Pierron doesn’t enough credit for his performance here in the comments. Even in Fort Bill most people were talking about Tahnee, bearly mentioning him. He has progressed so much and shows great potential and consistency. Just as Shaw last week in Fort William, Pierrron would have been right up there in Losinj if it wasn’t for his flat tyre.

Given how fast Luca's been while consuming so many All Star Specials and spreading the good word, there should be a Waffle House contract in the works as we speak. Then, if Kye turns into a great elite, they could pick him up and go international. Every time he wins, we could say he waffle stomped the competition!
  • + 3
Maybe the waffle House can buy him a new chain and tires for finals.
  • + 21
@fecalmaster: Or use burned waffles to mold the greatest mtb tread pattern in existence.
  • + 10
 @jcc0042: Patent that idea now.
  • + 2
@jcc0042: Hahaha they stamp "Waffle House" into the waffles too - don't think that would be the knobbier part
  • + 1
@MortifiedPenguin: I believe Nike did that decades ago
  • + 7
@mtbmaniatv: you're going to new age Waffle Houses, then. The ones where your arms don't even stick to the tables. You gotta go to the OG Waffle Houses. The ones where a terrifying grey-bearded man decks everyone who doesn't at least smother their hashbrowns square in the nose. Those waffles would produce tires that make Shorties look like xc tires. Also, take the sticky film on the tables, mix it in with the rubber compound, and you have a tire that will grip Crisco-covered rocks.
  • + 3
 @jcc0042: smothered and covered actually...
  • + 12
YEAH LUCA, back to back pole position!
  • + 9
Man, Luca and Brook are on a tear this season. MS Mondraker with all 3 riders in the top 10... Mike Jones would've been a good fantasy team addition. I'm calling a podium!
  • + 1
I just took him out after having him in for the first two rounds Frown
  • + 6
Let us not ignore Mr. PIERRON either
  • + 2
 @el-nombre: still time to edit
  • + 1
@el-nombre: glad i kept him in! ive also got shaw, bulldog, blenky and tahnee hoping for a solid race outta them all
  • + 9
Isak appears to have positioned his Pole nicely.
  • + 2
Pole needs to make a new longer bike and call it Position.
  • + 1
 Check the bike.......Smile
  • + 6
What about Rémi Thirion 10th after what happened last year
  • + 2
Can't believe this is the only mention, Thirion was the first word I searched in the comments... who would believe he could be back on form so fast?
  • + 5
why is it still possible to change the riders for the fantasy DH?
  • + 2
You sure that's not for the next round?
  • + 1
It has always been so.Roosters close some hours after qualification.Just noticed it now? Smile
  • + 9
Exactly what i thought. Edit function should be disabled before qualification time till the end of race
  • + 4
@miguelcurto: well, they always wrote that we couldn't modify it after 12:30 or 1pm on saturday so I've never tried.
Now i understand how some people guess fairly well the final results if they just enter the top qualifiers...I guess that's not cheating if Pinkbike is allowing it
  • + 1
Where can I see my "Leogang" roster? I did some last minute changes during the qualification, not sure whether they count towards Leogang or Val di Sole WC.
  • + 1
@zede: Not really, at least for Fort William it blew in many people faces, mine included, hehe
  • + 3
@Marine Cabirou DNF Qualification: What happened? Will she start tomorrow (I'm aware that she's protected)?
Hope no injuries!
  • + 2
My thoughs exactly, damn, gotta find a substitute?Let us know if you find out.
Hope its just a mechanical, seems she's protected.
  • + 3
look at her instagram, she crashed and was at hospital
  • + 2
@thewerner: Ouch.Damn shame, she was doing quite allright.Hope its nothing serious.
Speedy recovery.
  • + 2
@thewerner: Bummer! Seems like she'll race on Sunday though...
  • + 2
Hope she's okay. She was throwing some serious style down on the motorway at ft. Bill
  • + 1
This is why I check the comments. How she's ok and that I will had time to find a replacement for her.
  • + 1
That's a bummer for her :/ hope she heals up quickly! She's on my fantasy team for crying out loud
  • + 4
 Please fix this : 5th. NICOLE Sian 3:58.608 +11.380 -> 5th. NICOLE Myriam 3:58.608 +11.380 Smile
  • + 1
It's amazing to consider the top 75 man are all within 12 seconds of each other. All these riders are just so fast I'm really enjoying the racing. Any week it feels like it really could still be anyone on top.
  • + 2
Reece wilson was fastest at the first split, the guy must be riding with some sort of confidence at the moment!
  • + 2
We are the Foresta-far-i We promote strength, unity, one love, and junior Joey Foresta on the podium!
  • + 1
 Most def a roots rocker
  • + 2
Mechanical for Dakotah Norton. On pace for another good result prior to that.
  • + 2
 Yeah Monika, great effort Smile
  • + 1
Will Loris be rocking the #1 plate on raceday? Im assuming he earned enough points in qualifying to surpass Gwin.
  • + 2
 Nicole Sian???
  • + 2
 Rachel crash on her run?
  • + 1
Guessing she must have, but can't see any details :s
  • + 6
@Marc2211: she crashed. You can check her instagram instagram.com/p/Bjzi44jHTjP
  • + 3
@bernat: glad it wasn't serious, lost more time to the pole than the crash itself
  • + 1
@bernat: Shes not even cursing. Now that's a class act.
  • + 1
looking at the splits it was on the first split..and then she was in line with thanees splits and a much faster second split
  • + 2
 What happened to Gwin?
  • + 2
 injured thumb Frown
  • - 3
 He wouldn't beat Luca anyway.
  • + 6
@jclnv: just in his race runs
  • - 1
 @jaydawg69: For how long?
  • + 1
@jclnv: wasn't part of your statement. When has Luca beat a healthy AG in a race run?
  • + 0
 @jaydawg69: He's just a kid.
  • + 2
@jclnv: yes but you said "he wouldn't beat Luca anyway"... that's really naive based on past results.
  • + 0
@jaydawg69: I don't think he would. Based on finishing 2nd at the first round and first in qualifying at the last round and being a second up at the first split.

He's only going to get faster. Gwin's past results will sooner or later be a useless indicator of future results.
  • + 2
@jclnv: Luca has a couple of years imo to catch up to the level of AG but AG is on another level to others in the field right now.
  • - 1
@jaydawg69: Except when he scorpions or shits the bed in the World Champs againWink
  • + 3
 @jclnv: You're bad at this.
  • + 2
@jclnv: I believe he beat Luca.... Moron
  • + 1
@stickman5000: A little slip prevented Luca from winning again. His time will come and Gwin is only going to get slower..... c*nt.
  • + 1
@jclnv: Your statment wasn't "his time will come" it was "he wouldn't beat Luca"...
There is something skinny little keyboard warriors like you fail time and time again to realize and that is, guys like Gwin, Minnar and others got where they are quickly and have stayed there, not because of up and comers not being fast but because they handle the presure and perform well almost each time.
Luca may be showing flashes of brilliance and I hope he does start winning soon but to make such a dumb comment / prediction just shows that maybe you should stick to my little pony games and not pollute the internet with your stupidity.
  • + 1
@stickman5000: He wouldn't beat Luca. He wouldn't have beat him if he hadn't flatted in the last round and he wouldn't have beat him in Leogang if Luca hadn't had that silly crash.

Something little establishment worshipper f*ggots like you fail time and time to realize is every dog has its day and Gwin will not have a career anywhere near as long as Minnaar.
  • + 1
@jclnv: dude... you keep wandering off your original statement because it was wrong. Please stop back pedaling.
  • + 1
@jaydawg69: The first thing I said was Gwinny wouldn't beat Luca at Fort Bill if he hadn't flatted. I stand by that.
  • + 2
@jclnv: A lot of if's floating around your comments, how about this then... I would beat Gwin and Luca if I was just a bunch faster than I am.. (see how gay you sound?)
Racing is from the top to the bottom, flats, mechanicals and crashes / mistakes are all part of it. If's belong in fairytale land, not here.
And who knows how long Gwin's career will be? I don't but I will bet very highly that his wins will be above Gregs, and that says something, (as my gal likes to assure me, it's not how long you last, its how well you perform!) Wink
  • + 2
 What happened to rach?
  • + 2
OTB because of a rut. (but carried on)
  • + 6
Small crash but her bike got stuck on one of the tape poles, took her ten seconds to work it free
  • + 1
Damn, almost thought I was looking at the fort Bill quals. Mica Luca!
  • + 1
 GO Monika!
  • + 1
 Go LUCA!!!
  • - 3
I feel sorry for all the great riders that did not manage to qualify for a race run, It really sucks being good enough to enter, but do not get to race, also riders like big Ben Cathro that do not get to qualify!!!!!!!!!!!
  • + 1
 Go Frenchies ! Go!
  • + 1
 Allez Emilie!
