@jeremiahwas: It was 1990. Mrs Bailey, my matronly first grade teacher was attempting to play the guitar poorly and having the class perform some inane hand-actions to this precise song. Meanwhile at the back of the class 5 year old me was chewing a crayon, playing with my junk, and praying for the school day's end so I could go home and watch Ninja Turtles. Those days... could do worse indeed.
  • 1 0
@jeremiahwas: This is the climb that never ends, it just goes on and on my friends, some people started climbing it without knowing what it was, and they'll continue climbing it forever just because, it is the climb that never ends....

 I'm a Lousa baby
  • 51 0
So why don’t you race me

Could we please Honor that Myriam Nicole is only about 10seconds away from qualifying in Mens field??!!
  • 3 6
 "Honor him" -Gladiator
  • 39 0
Fuckin hell Syndicate. All that pre-WC European racing seems to have done the trick
  • 38 1
Luca showing form from two years ago!
  • 32 0
1st is our local boy! Wink
  • 8 0
For sure, but that Irish kid Oisin is biting at his heels and in incredible form. Should be a good race!
  • 3 0
@chillescarpe: oisins first split was only 7th fastest and after that he was a second faster than the other guy. Should definitely be in contention for another win if he can keep it upright.
  • 28 0
Looks like Loris found a shortcut after the final split - Wow!
  • 9 0
But Walker was on fire in the upper sections. gonna be a tight one
  • 7 0
Looks like Loris saved some energy at the top and gave it all at pedalling section. I bet he's #stocked. Should be interesting race!
  • 2 2
Amazing considering the rear end on Walkers bike looks like its about to explode.
  • 2 0
 Pedaling like a boss
  • 2 1
@jclnv: the back suspension on my Santa Cruz pretty much stopped working when gassing it on the pedals. VPP sprints like a road bike!
  • 7 6
Loris Vergier will be the first rider to win every round of the world cup in the same year!
  • 38 2
@jaame: First male rider. Rachel Atherton won every race of the 2016 World Cup season plus World Champs.
  • 4 0
 @jaame: And now you`ve jinxed it ...
  • 3 0
@Gruta: how prophetic you were. tup
  • 2 0
 @Dropthedebt: I hate to be right !
  • 22 0
Dark horse time- look down in 36th place- Greg Williamson- green at the first split then an obvious issue that caused him to be 8secs down. Ignore that sector and his time was good enough for a top 5 quali.
????
  • 1 0
The Brits have been destroying it so far, I would be surprised of he snagged a podium.
  • 17 1
Good to see Phil Atwill continuing to regain form. Hopefully he follows it up with a good race run tomorrow. Looks like the faux privateer life suits him.
  • 2 0
I thought the Cube team said they weren't going to attend?
  • 2 0
@freestyIAM: the team parafernalia apparently, not the racers . braaap
  • 1 0
 Yes! And Brayton just behind!
  • 16 0
Oisin is crazy, crazy good. Would be sick to have some more coverage of the juniors racing too
  • 5 0
1st Year Junior and killing it. For sure a big future.
  • 13 1
Loris has always been one of my favorite racers. He's always been close to the top... and with the competition as stiff as it is, it is fantastic to see him taking some wins and pushing the field to go faster. Also he's hilarious.
  • 11 0
He's doing to Bruni what Bruni did to Blenki.
  • 1 0
 Couldn't agree more!
  • 19 0
When Loris races he goes pffftt pffft, tudtudtud and radadada. Loic is more mumumum zitzitzit then owp owp owp
  • 2 0
@acali: couldn't have described it better myself
  • 11 0
 @acali: pretty much fluent French
  • 1 0
 @BenPea: hahahaha
  • 12 0
Santa Cruz Syndicate qualified 1st, 3rd and 4th... Is it that bike or what?
  • 8 0
The bike definitely isn't hurting them. Its a super close team though, so I think that helps huge. Adding in Steve Peat in the mix, and you have the Dream Team for sure.
  • 8 0
That's why the call them the Syndicate. They mob on people.
  • 4 0
Didn't they also do pre-season testing there? Obviously not the exact track but definitely sections of it.
  • 2 0
@ziggytang: Yep and if I remember correctly, someone (Maybe Greg?) took a bit of heat from another rider who didn't like the fact that they were on the track. Can't remember the rules about being able to practice ahead of season
  • 7 0
They have been at the top this entire mini season. All three of them seem to be finely tuned
  • 5 0
It's like that time the Syndicate invented a new wheel size.
  • 4 0
@azogas413: I can't imagine anybody giving Greg heat. If anything, I think the motto would be, "if Greg is doing it, then its probably cool"
  • 3 0
@azogas413: But they weren't the only ones there. Fox does their pre-season testing there. Have for a while now. Lots of riders for DH and EWS were in Lousa before Covid blew up.
  • 2 0
@phile99: I wish I could say you were right. Greg Minnaar spearheaded the idea into reality, but Jeff Steiber had this idea around 2010 or 2011 I believe it was. I cant say he was the guy who came up with the idea originally, but it was definitely the Syndicate that had the pull to make the dream come true.
  • 2 0
@mtbmidlifecrisis: Ok I was wrong about who it was. Loic gave Brendan shit for riding the track a day early before it officially opened. You can listen to it on Andrew Neethling's podcast with Brendan. Fox testing was not taking place on the official track
  • 3 0
 They. Are. Carrying. Good. Speed.
  • 2 0
 @jason3559: even hpp
  • 4 0
@jason3559: Reading all those comments on 29ers from 2007 is pure gold. Especially their "scientific" opinions.
  • 1 0
@jason3559: I gracefully stand corrected. Phenomenal find!! Those rims looks like Rhynolites. Terrifying lol.
  • 1 0
@jomacba: Glad to provide a walk down memory lane. BCD always intrigued me. I think it was an article in MBA in the late 90s/early naughts about BCD baking carbon frames in their kitchen that started the fascination.
  • 13 2
Two Americans in the top 10. Nice work boys!
  • 2 1
 No factory ride for Dante???
  • 2 1
@swellhunter: I guess he didn't pick anything up after the YT academy tryouts. I was shocked too, I believe he used to be on the Commencal junior program?
  • 4 0
Hes definitely got lots of backing. I just dont know where the lines are drawn between "factory rider" and "sponsored rider". On his insta hes tagged lots of companies, Canyon, TLD, stans and on and on...

Also, isn't there some weird UCI thing about "trade teams" or something as far as listing sponsors.....idk I cant remember because the UCI sucks and I never read the publications.
  • 10 0
Yeah Luca !!!! So happy for him
  • 4 0
Hes gotta finish a race run yet at that pace still
  • 2 0
The whole Syndicate is loving that track, it seems. The offseason training there paid off.
  • 9 0
Boa Gonçalo! É assim mesmo \m/
  • 9 0
 Santa Cruz boys on fire
  • 4 0
Syndicate domination! Let see how it shakes out..Loris seems unbeatable right now..Does Minnaar pull one more rabbit out of the hat before the season ends? Im rooting for Greg to win. It would really solidify his spot as the GOAT if he could somehow beat all these young guys while they are in top form.
  • 5 0
Oh... Team Cube is there? I remember an anouncement they will not go there...
  • 4 0
If I can do my math correctly, Myriam just took the leader's plate back from Marine... again. Even as a short season it's turning into an exciting one!
  • 3 0
Hope Redbull has cameras tomorrow between the first and second splits. That seems to be where the times are dividing, but it's also a spection that they sometimes don't cover well.
  • 12 0
Nah - they'll be sure to cover that flat peddling stretch though.
  • 4 0
@neimbc: they’ll make sure they cut out most of the steep technical bits we actually like too. Probably 5+ cameras on that motorway
  • 5 0
Walker fastest at every split until losing 0.7s in the sprint finish. It's been a short but great season for him so far.
  • 2 2
Makes you curious as the the pedaling efficiency of VPP vs single pivot. Everyone knows the VPP bikes tend to pedal really well but enough to make that kind of difference?? Walker may want to look at running a lockout maybe?
  • 2 0
When you post the finals results can you do so separate to the live feed results or reset the comments after the live feed ends? I'm always curious to hear peoples thoughts on how things played out and not just the progressing discussion through the live feed. Thank you.
  • 5 0
really wish there was a rider called Slack Dan....but Dan Slack will do
  • 19 0
he should race the grimDonut so him and his bike would be Damn Slack
  • 5 0
Loris on fire again. Walker showing his pace again
  • 3 2
 Downhill racing again.
  • 4 1
Big up to Brendog. Barely any DH riding recently and he qualifies less than 9 seconds behind the pole sitter and on a long track. Good work
  • 1 0
Hell ya but the comment about gee track not worththe 9 hour drive love that #sayithowitis
  • 3 0
Did Siel not even make it to the first split or is it that if a rider doesn't finish, they wipe all split times and show nothing but DNF?
  • 1 0
I believe if you don't finish your whole time is wiped out
  • 1 0
She lost more than a minute in Split 1. No other times have been recorded acc. to the results-pdf
  • 5 0
Im calling it now. GOAT is going to win.
  • 2 0
 Apparently i was right
  • 3 0
LORIS what's happened you're KILLING IT, legend.
  • 4 0
 Estaque?What happened?
  • 1 0
 Fully torqued! Broke his wrist?
  • 2 0
@7hhuman: Ouch, hope not. He sure looked fast in practice videos.Looks like he didnt even started?
  • 1 0
Commencal 100% instagram shows him in a sling, so some kind of injury in practice before qualifying run I guess, sucks!
  • 4 0
 Atwill on fire
  • 5 1
He can make that bike do anything at will.
  • 1 1
 Except win a race.
  • 3 0
@gdawg: I was just being punny
  • 3 0
@jaame: Slipped that one right past me...my bad.
  • 3 0
Might we get a Syndicate Sweep?!?
  • 1 0
Seems like the bikes and teams really does! SC comensal and spec all top 10. These bikes and set ups might be above the rest right now by it's consistency...
  • 3 1
stupid friday races... now i can't look at my phone at work all afternoon in fears of spoilers...
  • 3 0
i think the Gwin dynasty is over Frown
  • 4 0
Yeah he hasn't Gwon anything recently
  • 2 1
@Dogl0rd: hahaha I see what you did there!
  • 1 0
Well, he's had multiple injuries last 2 years of racing and then this year has only given him cold, wet mud mostly which he isn't the best in, and just one "dry" race. Plus, in the last 2 years other riders have been coming up from behind. He bagged more wins on the YT team for sure.
  • 2 0
@fudgedredd: INTENSE BIKES MUST REALLY SUCK FOR HIM TO BE DOING THIS BAD.
  • 2 0
Anyone else noticed that Myriam has equalled the time of Gee's commented preview.
  • 2 0
 Anyone know why Kaos DNS?
  • 10 1
 his run was too kaotic

Anyone know what happened with Camille? How did she end up 2 minutes behind? Just curious for my fantasy teams sake.
  • 5 0
Front flat as I read on her Instagram account.
  • 1 0
Fantasy DH rosters still not locked... Is it just me or are they normally locked BEFORE quali opens?
  • 1 0
really odd times with the Ladies. like all but the first 5 or 6 slipped/fell in section 2
  • 1 0
scusi.. must have been a glitch in the Matrix that there were times to be found. They just started qualifying Big Grin
  • 3 0
Myriam really likes this track. She has found more than a minute over the last years there.
  • 3 1
@danimaniac: Awesome assumption. Ever thought about track changes over the last years?
  • 1 0
@bikefan88: yes. But I don't really care.. The men's Times have not changed that drastically. So the winning times from the men between 17 and 18 changed by two seconds. Myriam found almost have a minute. To 19 the men got 15 seconds quicker, Myriam found another 25 seconds. She likes the track....
  • 1 0
They don't stream qualy right? didn't Warner say "follow the action on redbull tv" ?? I'm trying too buddy!
  • 4 0
 They've never streamed qualifying.
  • 2 0
@mammal: They sometimes put a show out in the evening from the finish line as riders finish quali
  • 1 1
@mammal: it's 2020, they've had plenty of free time to figure it out! lol
  • 3 0
@thingswelike: Sure, but I don't think that "qualifies" as streaming... See what I did there??
  • 2 0
Adam Brayton with a good early time!
  • 1 0
 Oh - Phil sneaking in!
  • 4 2

  • 2 0
Boy, INTENSE Bikes must really suck balls.
  • 1 0
6 Brits and 6 Frenchies dominating the top 20!
  • 1 0
What's going on with Gee? He's a long way off the pace.
  • 6 1
Appears to be slowing down with age. He's no Greg Minaar (but who is, really).
  • 12 0
@mammal: ha, that's funny. I was just about to comment on how it shows how amazing what Greg has done is. Gee looks like an animal so I can't imagine it's fitness related. Mentality and the ability to keep pushing seem to be key.

That said, Gees riding style does look a bit more restrictive than other riders. He always seems very far back on the bike and I recognise him immediately when I see him on video. All the other top riders now look much more centred on their bikes.

Bear in mind this analysis is coming from someone who would struggle to qualify for a race even if all the other riders where on quadricycles.
  • 4 0
@humoroususername: didn't Gee have a series of pretty nasty injuries. Since that big down in worlds a few years back he has not been able to regain that form that saw him competing for the title with Greg and chainsaw
  • 1 0
@stretchza: That was quite a few years back now...
  • 8 0
@mammal: I am - I have not slowed down with age - I'm 58 and still go as slow as ever.
  • 1 0
@mammal: these years are going by too Fast!!
  • 1 0
@mammal: you never know though....those injuries could be affecting his head game. Psyche and confidence shot. Seems like dislocating a hip would be a tough one to recover fully from.

Look at RatBoy, he strait up admitted that he was terrified of steep stuff after his ankle and foot exploded. He admitted that it played in the decision to retire.
  • 1 0
Hey, this is a great vid from Peaty with Loris from a month ago. It explains a lot about what’s changed and maybe explains Gee’s form. Watching Greg’s style, it looks bang up to date to me. Watch fora laugh and I feel youtu.be/n3jIVGmZiZE
