Quebec Cup Round 2 - MSS Bike Park

With a new trail build in just under a week (big props to the trail builders that did an amazing job!), Round 2 of the Quebec Cup went down under the sun, rain, thunder, occasional heavy winds, warmth and cold. We wanted it all, we had it all. The track was muddy, the fresh dirt slippery and loose. It wasn't a flow nor fast race, full of switchbacks, tight corners and tricky details. It was a totally new track, never been ridden before, so some changes had to be made after the first day of practice, where a small section had to be modified, mostly because of the rock where everyone feared to break their derailleurs.The race happened during Quebec national holiday weekend, it gave a festive mood, sharing beers and laugh in the pits. A big (really, really big) fire was started as soon as the day went dark, while enjoying fireworks. We got to say though, Quebec Cup are always a lot of fun!

Avec une nouvelle piste construite en seulement une semaine (bravo aux trails builders pour leur travail dément!), la deuxième Coupe Québec a eu lieu sous le soleil, la pluie, le tonnerre, des vents forts occasionnels, la chaleur et le froid. On voulait tout, on as tout eu. La piste était boueuse, la terre fraîche, lousse et glissante. Ce n'était visiblement pas une course rapide, remplie de tournants serrés et de détails complexe. C'était une toute nouvelle piste, jamais ridée auparavant. Évidemment, quelques changements ont dû être apportés après la première journée des pratiques, dont une petite section qui a dû être complètement modifiée, principalement à cause d'une roche où tous avaient peur de briser leurs dérailleurs. La course avait lieu pendant la fin de semaine de la fête nationale du Québec, donnant un air festif, alors que des bières et des rires s'échangeaient sous les tentes. Un gros (vraiment, vraiment énorme) feu fût allumé dés que la noirceur s'est installée, des feux d'artifices éclatèrent. On doit bien se l'avouer, les Coupes Québec sont toujours une partie de plaisir !




The heavy rain and thunder in the middle of the race made it last a lot longer, while half of the riders were stuck down the mountain, the chairlift being closed down while the thunder was raging up there. Luckily, an hour later, the rain finally stopped, the chairlift started again, the riders were all brought up and the race went on.

La pluie battante et le tonnerre en plein milieu de la course l'ont fait durer beaucoup plus longtemps, alors que la moitié des courseurs étaient pris en bas de la montagne, la remontée-mécanique fermé alors que le tonnerre faisait rage. Par chance, une heure plus tard, la pluie cessa finalement, les chaises rédémarrée, les courseurs montés et la course repris son cours.

Anthony Poulson won the Junior Expert category with a major lead at 02:06,340 (let's note that this would have also made him fifth in the Senior Elite), followed by Lucas Rey Sierro (02:20,210) and Shawn Quierry (02:28,040) Maxine Bergeron takes the lead in the women's elite with a time of 02:45,190 followed by Audrée Vaillancourt at 02:49,230


While in the Senior Elite, the fight was tight, Sam Thibault took the lead with 02:00,630 followed by Jonathan Lefrançois at 02:00,770! Third place goes to Philippe Ricard with a time of 02:01,330
