Where to start and how to end? We could not have billed two more opposite events on Day 2 of the Queenstown Bike Festival in New Zealand. The Kids Mini X and The Find 16 inch World Championships could not be any have been any more different. To set the scene here, 'The Find' is a very bike friendly Queenstown bar and the ONLY rule in this timed, one lap race is that you complete it on a child's 16inch bike. The course is marked out on the bar floor and as an interactive onlooker, you would not believe how much creativity can go into sabotage.
So here is the recap video of the day, if the kid's race is not your thing, then hold out for just over 1 minute when the tone changes!
The racing was tight, the girls went off first and had the advantage of the crowd not having yet thought of all the horrible things they were going to inflict on competitors to make the course as treacherous as possible. Meagan took the hot seat until Leigh smashed her time and Jenna took the lead to become the 16inch World Bar Champion Woman overall. Amazed at how many girls took on the challenge ... and survived!

Beer, water and ice went everywhere, making the floor and competitors alike extremely slippery. To conquer the first part of the course you had to run the gauntlet through the spectator lined run up to the refreshment stop where some didn't make it unscathed!

The drink stop got ugly. Picture says it all - no need for captions!

Then through to the other room, past Heckler's island and into the midst of a bunch of saboteurs. Jarna was seen here, caught on camera and busted red handed spraying mustard on the ramp.

Highly tuned athlete falling foul of said mustard on the ramp of doom.
New this year was the mist from old beer kegs sprayed right in the face of competitors as they desperately tried to navigate their way through the beer smeared, mustard covered, ice cube laden floor. Must have been terrible, but it made for photos that have had me laughing all day! See the album on our
Facebook page.

With ninja like movements, David swiped the hot spot from Jizzy C who took it in turn from Tom. Jizzy C had held the lead and was the favourite until throwing down a superman trick across the finish line, but sadly without his 16inch bike under him, it didn't go so well.

When asked in an exclusive interview, what his secret was to becoming The Find 16inch World Champion, David summed it up in one sweet word - 'Alcohol'.
Stay tuned for more action from the Queenstown Bike Festival.
