Press Release: Race Face Launches a 9000 Lumen Light Bar

photo

Race Face enters the mountain bike light market with the new Blindy 9000 light bar. Adapted from off-road applications and perfectly suited to post-work rips on the dank and dark North Shore mountains, the Blindy 9000 packs a retina-burning 9000 lumens that simply makes night riding more better.

Battery capacity is a single hot lap approved 50 minutes, so beers at the top need to be drank in the dark. No fiddling with a bunch of middle modes nobody needs the Blindy 9000 has the two settings you want, 9000 lumens and 0 lumens. This thing is so damn bright, your riding buddies will probably need to wear sunglasses or really be careful not to glance in your direction.

Good laugh, but so far Chromag is winning the commitment contest on April fools jokes.

 Definitely!!! Hail Chromag!

Have you seen the new GG that Yoann Barelli is showcasing on Youtube?

 @lRaphl: Hahahaha

Sorry, to be funny needed to be at least 20,000 lumens. My two bar lights together are 10,000 lumens. Plus helmet and spare lights i am near 15000 "claimed " lumens.

There are several claimed 8000 lumen individual lights out there now.

Every Tacoma owner was hoping this was real, hahahaha!

We're going to 3d print mounts now.

I knw this is a joke, but... I actually kind of want to do this

sorry, was blinded while reading, can't comment

I know this is a joke, but when I first started riding at night I was actually a bit surprised they didn't have LED light bars for mtbs. I'm guessing they require too much juice and no one wants to pedal around with a big battery strapped to their frame.

There are plenty of 1000+ lumen 2-4 element LED pods you can strap to your bar and to your helmet. It's like daytime riding once you start getting into the 800+ lumen lights on each mounting point. They're not heavy at all and can run for around 2-3 hours on medium intensity.

I've built several handlebar lights, including with PWMs that allows dimming and extends battery life. (The PMW flashes as opposed to dimming, which reduces battery consumption).

Solves several issues with existing lights. 1) brighter 2) longer run time 3) uses existing, removable battery bank (so you can have more than one battery if needed) 4) mounts beneath the bar for crash protection 5) much cheaper

Downsides are 1) weight (light and battery weigh about a pound) 2) battery bank requires a top tube bag to carry.3) you should know how to solder

@ShawnRomanoMi3 ever actually seen something like in the article - a light bar with perhaps an integrated battery?

I think it is one of these in the article:

If they turn it into a stroboscope you get twice the burn time and trice the excitement (if you actually make it down in one piece).

Shouldn’t the Toyota in the background have a rooftop tent?
  • 5 1
Well AliExpress leads me to believe 9k Lumen lights are available for just $15
  • 7 0
 Comes with free explosions!
  • 5 0
@raceface: Isn't an explosion kind of like an extra high setting that you can only use one time? Obviously, it should be implemented with a big red button...or just at random.

 @noapathy: Ejecto seato!

Summer fatbikers will run this in the daytime. This, along with their bluetooth speaker will require them to carry a Jackery with them. Good thing is, they cut overall weight by riding sleeveless.

Did some sleuthing. Might be one of these but there is no battery intrgrated into lights (I didn't see a cable to a battery in the article picture above)!

I thought this was pretty dumb, but the Corey Hart reference saves it and then some.
  • 1 0
Amen. I came to say the same thing.
  • 4 0
Ha ha "Blindy 9000". I would buy one just for the name alone.
  • 3 0
 Wrapped up like a douche...

Must be the new Devinci Wrangler

There was a kid in my town who was riding with something like this on his fatbike 2 years ago. So even if it's a joke here, someone already did it for real!
  • 1 0
I have one on my fat bike too!
  • 1 0
@maxlemp: what light/battery solution did you use?
  • 1 0
@dr-airtime: I used a rough country 9 inch light bar and wired it to a cordless drill battery. Had to step down the 18v battery to 12v with some extra wiring…this is why electrical engineer friends are good to have
  • 3 0
 I know this is a joke....but it shouldn't be
  • 1 0
So, the light bar equipped on every lifted truck. The same people that attach a hitch rack to their truck rather than using their 7' bed for what it was made for.
  • 2 0
 What's funny is that I have a 12 inch light bar on my fat bike...almost 4k lumens....it's not a joke... it's awesome....
  • 3 0
 oonga boonga
  • 2 0
D'oh! Got me. Laid up recovering from a big crash and forgot the date.
  • 3 2
This is a terrible joke cause I have an actual 8000 lumen bar light and it does make night rides more better.
  • 5 0
Theoretically, good satire should be close to believable. But also, guess you're the one with the sick night riding setup, so who's laughing now? *cries softly about the non-existent Blindy*
  • 1 0
@raceface: Maybe the "Blindy 12000" would have been better (I found a 22" long LED bar on Amazon), but I'll admit the name doesn't quite have the same ring to it.
  • 1 0
@raceface: Haha, the N+1 rule applies to lumens as well as bikes!
  • 2 0
Is this actually available? I want one!
  • 3 0
Magicshine makes an 8000 lumen light
  • 2 0
watch so many people will want this that they will actually make it.
  • 1 0
I would 100% buy one. April fools aside. The 1600 Lumen Lezyne light in city commuting is a game changer for actually getting cars to pull over on side streets and not squeeze you out!

Market too tiny as only MTBers actually rock 750mm+ bars on commuter bikes......curly bar crown might figure out benefits here eventually.....

As an honorary redneck, this amuses me.

Been using a prototype version for the last few months. Really makes snipe hunting much easier
  • 1 0
this is good. Now people who SXS and mountain bike are going to be fabricating mods.

Race Farce can make jokes... except that this one is a bit... hum... well. Hail Chromag!
  • 2 0
people would buy that for sure

...always wanted to wear my cool sunglasses at night...
  • 1 0
Again an April fools that’s trying to be funny but a product concept that would be great.
  • 1 0
Some legit bike light companies already offer lights this powerful. They cost $500 but they exist.
  • 1 0
I am sure there are more the few fools to buy light bar with millions lumens power
  • 2 0
 I would buy this.

 Aren't they Canadian though, 'Anada!

 @jeremystclair: we've gone country
  • 1 0
So I can, so I can See my way down Bobsleigh!
  • 1 0
 Nice Corey Hart reference
  • 2 0
 Only 9000 lumens! pft
  • 1 0
Damn it, I actually want one of these!
  • 2 0
Mount up 2 Gemini Titan 4000's and you should be good.
  • 6 9
I mean..the fact that Lupine already offers a true 8100 lumen light available for consumer purchase sorta makes this 9,000 lumen April Fools joke a bit of a dud. As for the off-road light-bar mount to a bar...well that's already available too. Race Face...this is kinda week. You can be more creative than this..

We're terribly sorry sire, it won't happen again.
  • 1 0
This really does look like a great idea, but the battery would be 20lbs.
  • 1 0
How about a picture from the rider's view?

 Flashbomb!
