4X makes its national return on May 29 & 30 at Harthill Adventure Park in Cheshire for rounds 1 and 2 of the HSBC UK Schwalbe British 4X Series.

After the British 4X Series was halted year, riders will be back fighting it out for the National Series title once again.

Harthill has already hosted ten National 4X races, two European 4X rounds and a National Championships. The track's sandy corners, multiple line choices and change in speed through sections is a recipe for unpredictable, close racing.

Who are the contenders?

If we are basing this off result history alone, Scott Beaumont takes the edge on the stats. Winning 6 out of the 13 races held on the course so far, he knows what it takes to win here. However, it is never that simple in 4X. Just a few weeks ago, some riders flocked to Harthill to test out the freshly renovated track. Cornishman, Charlie Currie, looked to be on strong form, taking the win ahead of Beaumont:

With the likes of previous Harthill winner, Davi Roberts and young gun, Zac Hudson who showed solid racing in the elite field last year, this will be a tough one to call.

In the women's it looks to be just as close. Josie McFall will hope to return to her winning form that we saw at the two races in 2020. However, after a crash at the Mini Downhill at Harthill on May 16, dislocating her shoulder, could a hungry Isabelle Leyshon back up her win from a few weeks ago after pipping Hannah Escott to the line?

Double header racing always makes for some shuffling. It will be a question of who has got the stamina to keep the flame lit over the two days.
