The sky dumped rain throughout the morning, adding a slick layer of mud to the rocks and the riders.

The second race of the Highland to Hudson Mountain Bike Race Series brought racers to the beautiful rocky trails of Northern New Jersey. Presented by Team Town Cycle in West Milford, the Ringwood Rumble is one of the more technical race courses of the series, featuring plenty of baby head rock gardens, boulders, rock-armored trails and rocky fire-roads.

Unlike most cross-country mountain bike races in which all levels of racers share the same course, the Ringwood Rumble gave each category of racers their own single race loop of varying lengths that included different amounts of technical terrain. The First Timers class raced a mild 2 mile course with 200 feet of climbing while the Endurance, Cat 1 & Pro classes rode a 12 mile lap with over 1500 feet of climbing. The longer loops touched on some of the best and most technical trails Ringwood has to offer including the 'White Trail' - a long manicured enduro style descending flow trail and a segment know simply as 'The Tech' - 1.8 miles of muscle grinding rocks features.
