Cariboo TimeIn this day and age, the keyboard warrior is well worried about threat; their negativity and constant barrage of complaints can sometimes seem daunting. What's worse, is although they often hide behind their keyboard, we all know of that one or two people in our communities who spread their cancerous thoughts throughout.
Luckily there exists a place in BC, where you still meet at the shop, 6:00pm for a ride, no one heckles your kit, they don't care if you're late and will always welcome you with a cold one; even if you don't drink or are gluten free, they'll still toss you one, it's their kind of way of saying, "Hey, welcome aboard".
Welcome to Williams Lake, home of what could be the most interesting bike shop in BC, the most flowy trails in the province and a mountain-bike community that embraces anyone with two wheels and a heart beat. Elitists, egos, and self-righteousness are checked once you cross the town border.
You're now on Cariboo time.Last weekend, the crew from Red Shred's Bike and Board Shed, graciously hosted round number three of the
Osprey BC Enduro Series, presented by
Smith with support from the
Cariboo Mountain Bike Consortium and the Puddle Bike Club.
Red Shreds and the Puddle Bike ClubMark Savard is the owner of
Red Shred's Bike and Board Shed, selfless is the best word to describe Mark, people always say it, but it's true. He literally wants everyone to just have fun, if that means organizing shuttles out of his own pocket, or encouraging people to chug beers and eat cold hot dogs, he's game.
Mark has been running his bike shop since before I was born, in 1987 he went legit and got a brick and mortar store, he never looked back. Red Shred's is likely the only bike shop in BC that everyone knows, unanimously loved, and only visit once or twice a beer (whoops, I mean year, yeah, 'year). If you need anything in Williams lake, from accommodation, a truck part for you 1975 Dodge, rock climbing tips, or dental work, or just life advice, Mark and his crew will not only give you the house phone of the person to help you, they'll stop everything they are doing to give you a hand.
Another champion that helped make this race possible was Bryon Black of the Puddle Bike Club, he worked tirelessly days before the event to help course mark, crush beers and give us true Cariboo Hospitality. Bryon also visited the podium on both days, all while holding down a family and taking a few a days off from work!
One thing is for certain, come to the Cariboo and Williams Lake, you'll be greeted with a smile, tossed a cold beer and given the ear of a real-life, human being.
Thanks to everyone in Williams Lake for showing us what the
Shangri-La of Mountain Biking looks like.
Let's Get to RACINGThis race we went back to our routes, hosting a two-day event. Day one was NOT FOR POINTS, it was about having fun in the woods and riding some fast, loose trails!
DAY 1DAY 2This was the real race, people originally were scared about losing a finger on the ridiculously tight trees, but once they found the flow, only laughter slowed them down!

OSPREY FEATS OF STRENGTHThis week's feat of strength. Grab a partner, they hold the cup and pour from behind, you chug! You can't
#ridethecariboo without chugging at least one beer!
InstagramFacebookOSPREY FASTEST AMATEUR TIMEOsprey Packs is handing out a hydration pack to the fastest amateur time at every race. This Viper 9 Hydration Pack, going home to a ridiculously fast amateur.
BC Enduro Series Bike CheckOne of the best parts about being at the events is checking out all of the goods! So, I figured that we should show you what the riders are well, riding. So at each race, we'll feature one of our racer's bikes.
This week it's James Rennie of Red Dog Racing!
