Race Recap: Round #1 2021 Norco Canadian Enduro Series presented by Smith at Panorama Mountain Resort.

Enduro Racing is alive and well! Panorama Resort is a staple on the Norco Canadian Enduro Series calendar and was actually the last venue we hosted a race at before COVID began. It's been just over two years since riders were here and the resort treated everyone like royalty including a brand new trail!

In what was originally planned to be a massive weekend for riders, with over 2100m of climbing, however, Interior Health came in in the eleventh hour with new restrictions. Our event team pivoted quickly which meant the original event was split into four separate races. With an AM and PM race on both Saturday and Sunday, the race was shortened to 3 stages. Two stages within the bike park and one stage on the opposite side of the valley, where none other than 'Jose the Legend' has spent countless hours building 'Jose Corners' to treat the rider to some real technical difficulty.

There was no easing into this weekend. Riders climbed up through the bike park to the start of Stage 1, Moosepowder to Sanchez. The 2.9km stage had riders concentrating 100% from the get go - not your typical bike park trail as it has steep offcamber sections, berms, roots and finishes on a fast and flowy blue trail.

After a short climb to the top of Stage 2, riders faced very different style of trail. Rubber Chicken is a very natural, raw trail. Riders had to be on their game ensuring they hit braking points and carried speed through some of the awkward turns. Although only on the other side of the valley, the trail features very different terrain with moon-like dust. Plenty of riders fell victim to this change in grip and trail style.

Next up, a quick Mile 1 chairlift ride took riders to the start of Stage 3. Denalis(aka Slabasuarus) was a riders dream. Thanks to Tucker, Luke and everyone who helped make this trail a reality! Although this stage was within the bike park, the brand new trail featured loam like you have never seen before and a rock slab that had some riders living on the danger line. The perfect way to finish a race the weekend.

This weekend proved just why the mountain bike community is so epic! A huge thank you to all the racers, volunteers, parents, medics, media crew, Panorama Resort crew and everyone else that was so patient and understanding while we worked through the challenges. You are all epic!

Stay tuned this week as we relive this epic enduro weekend on Facebook and Instagram.

A special thanks to:

For those who didn't know, at every stop of the Canadian National Enduro Series, we donate 10% of racer registrations back to the hosting area. This cash goes straight back into the dirt and helps ensure the trails live on long after the races.

Every rider at the races was treated to a special gift from Norco Bicycles to say Thank-You for supporting racing in Canada!

The fact you guys could put it together and get approval on such a short timeline is a logistical triumph. Put that one on your resumes for years to come. Ha!
