Race Report: Gravity Enduro Series 2019 - Round 4 Cahir

Aug 11, 2019
by Yaroslav Alpizar

It was already time to have a serious Irish race, all previous ones were too dry for the like of the locals. So during the night, the skies dumped an insane amount of water. In the morning, what yesterday in training seemed already muddy, today was simply a miracle to stay on the bike. With that conditions around 200 riders hit the trails to have...fun? And fun they had. Slippery, slick, oily, muddy, none and all the words described the conditions on the trails, especially the SS2, 3 and 4. These 3 stages inside the forest had all kind of surprises for the riders in the shape of oily roots, big ruts and muddy rocks. Carnage on some of the sections where most of the riders struggled to keep their feet on the pedals.

Maybe the one that enjoyed the most was team Expert Cycles rides Harry Byrne, with his first elite win on the season, positioning him as the mathematical winner of the Gravity Vitus Enduro Series overall champ with one more race to go next September. Second, came Ian Coates from Biking Dirty, just 9.78sec behind. And third 17.64sec behind Drew Armstron from Vitus First Track Race Division. Each stage was won by one of these riders. Harry won SS1, SS3 and SS5. Ian SS2 and Drew SS4.

On women the legend Meave Baxter from Cuchulainn team came first, 31s after came second the young Hannah Mullin (Green Bikes) and third Roising Hickey 02:05:.84. Maeave was very consistent through all the day, winning all except SS3 where Hannah managed to take the win by 2sec. With these results, Meave climbs to the 4th position on the overall series and Hannah Mullin secures a strong second position. Current leader Leah Maunsell with some other elite men missed the race as they are off to the Americas racing the Enduro World Series.

Next, and last, stop of the series will be in Carrick Mountain, September 8th. See you there!
