450 mountain bikers took part in the world's only downhill series on snow.Hundreds of bikers undusted their bikes in the middle of the off-season to drift across ski pistes in Austria.
Last Sunday the "White Fast Down" marked the end of the Reverse Components schneefräsn 2019 series. One last time a horde of bikers rushed towards the bottom station of the gondola via a ski piste.
schneefräsn - the world's only downhill series on snow - is booming. In its fourth season, the winter cup saw participation of 450 riders in six races all over Austria. With 30 participations in the women's category.
Races at schneefräsn are diverse. From true downhill tracks on a World Cup skiing piste, to mass start races with over 100 riders, to kids-friendly courses. People who just want to try riding on snow meet on the start line with world cup downhill racers like Markus Pekoll or Andreas Kolb. They meet again at the finish line, both with a big smile on their face.
Mario Schneeweiss was the busiest collector of points. He raced all six races and took the overall in front of Marco de la Cruz and Philipp Perz.
A thriller developed in the final event in the women's race. Elke Rabeder started the last hunt, but just couldn't track overall winner Alicia Reynolds down. A tiny 5 point margin secured her title. Third went to Lisa Kreuzer.
Due to the big turnout, the continuation in 2020 is certain. Riders and race locations are eager to see bike action on snow next year again.
