GT Bicycles Balance Bike Cup

The first-ever GT Bicycles Balance Bike Cup landed at Resorts World Birmingham in blazing sunshine this weekend. Over 70 riders attended from two to six years of age traveling from all over the U.K to make this a truly national-level event. The 125 meter long course was marked out in the early hours as dawn broke in one of the many car parks at the shopping center that kindly agreed to let us use their facilities.

Practice was well underway at 09:00 with eager riders firing out of the BMX style start gate to then negotiate two sets of whoops, chicanes and 'Noodle Alley' before they crossed the finish line.

Racing started at 11:00 with everyone getting three motos, before we whittled the racers down through quarter, semis and then the mains, with both 'B' and 'A' finals.

Podiums soon followed after an impromptu give away to the crowds of assorted tee shirts, race jerseys, goggles and a Mongoose Scooter!

One lucky boy was racing on this very limited edition, full carbon, Valentino Rossi signature model Kiddimoto with a cool £1,000 price tag!

The top three from each category were invited onto the podium to receive their medals and a large presentation cheque kindly sponsored by the Little Rider Co.

Amazing event, everyone really enjoyed it. Great to see Si bringing young talent into racing.
British Cycling could do more, like reducing the age to start racing a MTB and subsidising entry fee’s to encourage parents to get their kids involved.
The foundations need to be laid to start beating those Frenchies ;-)
