Race Report: The Ibis National Team Takes On Round #2 Of The California Enduro Series - Mammoth Bar

After a couple weeks of no racing following the Toro enduro, our team was set to go race the notoriously pedally and rocky Mammoth Bar CES in Auburn. The stages were a mixture of Auburn state recreation area trails and new additional OHV trails. Unfortunately, team member Paul Serra would be out with injury, but Essence, Evan and Lili aimed to represent the team their best. Evan and Lili opted to race the new Ripmo, while Essence killed it racing aboard her HD4.


Friday was spent doing practice laps of stages in the heat, while trying to stay rested and cool enough to go full gas the next morning. After practicing, time was spent tuning up bikes with BikeCo mechanic Joe Binatena, resting at the hotel, and eating. A burrito from the local Caribbean restaurant was the pre-race fuel of choice for Lili.


Race day required getting to the venue early in the morning, which was just a short drive from the town of Auburn. While the race was a fairly short race distance-wise, the physical stages and hot weather gave some additional challenge. On the steep hike-a-bike fireroad transfers, everyone stayed motivated by the thought of the refreshing post-race river swim. Essence, Evan and Lili all kept it together for smooth races with no major mistakes, giving the team some solid results.


With super tight times in the pro men's field, Evan took second place for the day, with a couple of stage wins, while still retaining the series lead. On the women's side, Essence continued to dominate, taking the fastest overall time of the day, as well as winning several stages. This keeps her in first overall for the series so far. Lili followed right behind Essence to take 2nd place, her best pro result thus far, moving her up to 3rd for the series.


Awesome weekend of racing for the team at Auburn, and we are preparing to roll up to the mountains for CES round three at China Peak on June 30th!
