Race Report: Tori Wood & Harry Snow Win Canadian Enduro Series Round #2 Crowsnest Pass

Big mountains, epic trails, unbelievable views, and an unbeatable vibe. Welcome to Crowsnest Pass for round #2 of the 2022 Norco Canadian Enduro Series Presented By Leatt. Now Crowsnest Pass may not be somewhere you have heard too much about, it’s a relatively small community just across the Alberta border. And although small, it has an insane history including one of Canada’s biggest and deadliest landslides - The Frank Slide - as well as being a center for “rum-running” back in the early 1900’s. Crazy!

The local mountain bike community, led by the United Riders of Crowsnest, has well and truly put themselves on the must-ride map. The trails here feature everything from some bike park-style flow to back-country trails that feel a million miles from anywhere. If you have yet to ride here, add it to your next road trip. You will not be disappointed!

With predicted rain and thunderstorms for the weekend, everyone was well prepared for what could have been a long weekend! But, in true mountain weather fashion, we got the complete opposite - a weekend of near-perfect sunshine! Saturday featured Stages 1 and 2 at the Pass Powderkeg trail network. After a relatively gentle climb to the top of the ski hill, Stage 1 would immediately sort the prepared from the unprepared. 2017 Pro Men's winner Matt Monod, started the weekend with a bang taking Stage 1, with Tori Wood putting herself firmly in the lead for the Pro Women.

Stage 2 was just as physical but in a very different sense. A more technical top section, a hectic mid-stage sprint, and a flow trail to finish. If you weren’t absolutely hanging off your bars at the bottom, you didn’t push hard enough on this one. After day 1, it was Harry Snow and Tori Wood leading the Pro Men’s and Women’s category, with Elly Hoskin and Jacob Bonikowsky leading the U21 Women and Men.

On the menu for Day 2 were Stages 3, 4, 5, and 6. Riders headed out bright and early to begin the pedal over to Stage 3 and a Crowsnest must-ride, Big Bear. The view from the top of this trail is guaranteed to make you instafamous! At the bottom of the stage, reports were coming in of it sounding more and more like a graveyard of taco’d wheels and flat tires. This stage tested even the best riders and proved to be a defining point in the weekends racing for many categories. A quick, but very essential stop at the feed station for lollies and pickle juice, before heading up to Stage 4 - School of Rock. A quick second pass at the feed station and a sprint down the short Stage 5 before riders made the pedal 10km back to the Pass Powderkeg trails for Stage 6.

Tori wood took a clean sweep of all stages for the Pro Women claiming her first Canadian Enduro Series Pro win, while Harry Snow kept things safe to bring home the win for the Men. Elly Hoskin won all but one stage to take the U21 women's win by over a minute. Both Tori and Elly, racing for the Corsa Cycles Enduro team, are ones to watch for this season! With a strong Day 2, Erik Ashton took top honours for the U21 Men. A huge congratulations goes out to all of the racers, it was an incredible weekend and we were stoked to see you all out there.
