On Monday, July 16th, the Whistler Mountain Bike Park Events Team, in conjunction with our GT Women's Night's crew, hosted our first ever women's only DH race. Keeping in line with our traditional Phat Wednesday/Kidz race series', the entry fee was a mere $5, or free if you were part of a women’s night group that evening.
So what happens when you close the race course to dudes and let the girls do their thing? Over 110 riders came out to ride and party, not necessarily in that order, creating a race and après atmosphere that was at an all-time high.
It was a great night to be out with your crew.
Sun's out, tongues out.
Pre-race cool-down in the shade.
Party shirts were not mandatory, but certainly welcome.
Ladies night, or leidies night?
Don't let the views distract you from the race course.
Ladies of all ages were flying down the Fitz zone.
That golden hour light...
Anna Boyd pinned it to take sixth in the very competitive 30-39 category, where the top 7 riders were only 3 seconds apart.
Justa Jeskova, a top bike photographer in the valley, out from behind the lens and inside the race tape.
Stephanie Denroche flying to take third in the 19-29 group.
Lauren Cameron eyes up a top-10 finish in the 19-29 category.
The ladies set up shop at Merlin's for some post ride beverages and awards.
Some were more thirsty than others...
Thanks to all who came out!
Ladies of Pinkbike, should we look to host more of these in the future? Let us know in the comments!
Our normal Phat Wednesday programming continues on July 25th, in the Creekside Zone for the first time. Course release will be at its usual time, with registration and awards taking place at Dusty's.
