Race Face Dig knee pad
The last few seasons have seen more and more riders opting for a more compact knee-only pad. Without getting into a debate, it does make a lot of sense. You're protecting the important part of your leg, the knee, but without having to wear hot and sometimes cumbersome full leg pads. For those who agree Race Face has added the new Dig knee pad to the '09 lineup.
The low profile of the Dig should easily fit under your pants, as long as you're not wearing your sister's jeans. The urban graphics are printed on a 600D nylon panel for longevity
Unlike a lot of slim knee-only pads, the Dig incorporates some padding on the side of the knee for extra protection against whatever is hitting back, especially nice for those out there who knock knees on their top tube often. Inside you'll find some nice wicking material to absorb your nasty sweat, and a small patella pad that helps keep the Dig in place. The Dig comes in a complete size range of small to XL!
Race Face Women's FR pads
More and more Ladies are out there killing it and having a blast on the mountain. For them Race Face has a new line of ladies pads. Although the lines are similar, these are not just Rally pads with some pink highlights. The women specific version use a slightly different shape and proportions to better fit the female form. All you small ladies out there won't have to sport kids pads any longer!
The woman's FR is a hard shell pad with separate knee and shin sections for better articulation and bigger range of motion. The back is open so they will be cooler than a fully enclosed pad, as well as easier to get on and off. Speaking of on and off, the strapping also have some modifications in the name of comfort. The angles of the straps, as well as soft "next to skin" weave where ever they make contact with the leg means you you'll be able to wear them for the long haul without unneeded discomfort.
They come in both knee/shin and elbow/forearm versions for all the protection you'd want, as well as three color options: black, grey, and purple highlights.
Race Face Zero shorty leg pad
If you are looking for a bit more protection than just a knee pad then the new Zero may be for you. Based on it's bigger brother, the Zero sports a shorter than full length hard shin guard, perfect for when you get caught up in your bars trying to eject on that super-booter
The Zero: not too much and not too little
Separate shin and knee protection for maneuverability combined with a smaller profile may make these perfect for riders who can't or don't shuttle to the trailheads, or if your "XC" ride gets a bit squirrelly!
Check out Race Face.com for more info on both soft and hard goodies!
The pads are not the same as the 661's they do mimic the idea.. but it is a killer idea. They have a harder plastic for the knee which should add for way more protection.. and they are a little longer too..
They're pretty cool.. I'll be looking to replace my 661's for the raceface ones.. I havnt crashed on my knees yet.. but I doubt that the flexy bit in the 661 will really protect my knees from any hard impact.
Looks good but I'm going to stick with my neon orange tights for all my DH runs.
I look good, the ladies love me....and the guys are all jealous.
Plus, my wife loves all the freshly shaven leg meat.
Great idea making pads pedal friendly, "for those who can't/don't shuttle"; this description fits most of California. I will be looking to get a set soon.
RACEFACE always makes really good stuff i like them
