Raw Video: Remy Metailler Sends Big Gaps in Squamish

Oct 15, 2020
by Rémy Métailler

Music is cool, but nothing beats the sound of the tires on the ground and the hub when in the air.

When we originally did that video we used songs from DL Incognito, as a reminder of my old Whistler Bike Park edits. I have been asked since to upload a RAW version, so here you go! 4 min of bike sounds down Squamish's best trails!

An almost incomprehensible amount of speed and skill shown in this video. Absolutely mindblowing that he can hit these features that fast and still be in control. Amazing, loved every second.

Possibly one Of the most insane videos I’ve watched. So much skill
  • 17 0
@enduroNZ: absolutely. i've been watching MTB videos since 1998 and this has stunned me!
  • 5 1
subscribe to his YouTube channel, he's got game for sure..
  • 12 0
Yea, having been to Squamish for the first time last week and riding some of these features (and only checking out most), this is utterly mind shattering.
  • 12 0
If this isn't video of the year, hard to imagine what's left to drop. Still liked it more with DL!

 What happened? I blacked out...

Remember how naive we all were back when “Remy Burns The Whistler Bike Park” first blew our minds, and we were thinking, how could it possibly get any better than that?

The move to Squampton has clearly been a good one!

This edit actually deserves a more click-baity title. Something like, “The Most High-Speed, Precise, Death-Defying Bike Video You Will Ever Watch.”

I may get downvoted, but this type of riding impresses me more than almost any slopestyle move. Incredible!

 Some deep insights right there.

Strangely, I have this same problem.
  • 3 0
Remy earned the rank of Captain with that statement.
  • 2 0
@zeedre: does this mean we can all say we ride like Remy?
  • 1 0
@bananowy: literally, yes. but only literally.
  • 1 0
and when I say literally, I'm talking about the words same and like, and I do not mean actually.

Amazed he can swing a leg over the saddle with balls that big. That is the most ridiculous riding i think i've ever seen in 35 years of riding MTB. Serious skills.
  • 17 0
Best video of Metailler this year
  • 2 0
I think it’s the best edit of the year. There have been some heaters though from others though.
  • 16 0
I couldn't dream of a more perfect way to ride MTB. Remy, you are the man!!
  • 12 0
 Never gets old. Just unreal.

Guaranteed a lot of people are willing to give Hayes another go after this edit (myself included). The stuff that happened with the Nines back in the day just water under the bridge now, am I right?

I'd be keen to try some Dominion A4's - anyone out in Pinkbike land have real world experience with them? Where I live, the shops are typically Shimano & Sram. It seems like the only way to get them in Canada is through online...
  • 4 0
@jaydubmah: got them half a year ago and am really happy with them. Modulation is great and plenty of power. Spare parts supply is not so great though.
  • 4 0
@jaydubmah: Performance is stellar, hands down the best brakes I've had in terms of power, heat resistance and overall feel.

The design of the caliper is just brilliant with the crosshair adjusting screws, the location of the bleed screws at the back, and the way the path of the fluid splits symmetrically after the banjo in order to ensure piston equilibration. These are all very well thought out features.

On the lever side, the lever blade is rotating on small bearings and the master cylinder uses a teflon bushing, the net result is an unmatched lever feel so smooth its addictive!

PB awarded them best product of year 2019 I think, it's well deserved in my opinion.
  • 4 0
I got some after watching his videos - got the Hayes A4 and they are really good. I was coming from Code Rs so feels like a significant upgrade. The lever feel is just so nice.
  • 2 0
I just put them on my Stylus build and can't wait to get to try them.
  • 12 0
That is the the most insane riding I've ever seen. And, for squamish, the most capable I've ever seen as well - Next level, blew my mind.
  • 8 0
It seems way to peaceful without music for such gnarly riding. f*cking hell what riding.

Also like how the "crash" section is him just almost making a mistake, guy is tuned in
  • 8 1
I wish World Cup would do tracks like this stuff but with slightly less high risk features. This is real mountain biking, not the motor way crap they have on tracks. I would argue Remy is one of the best in the world above many of top DH racers because he is real rider riding real trails real riders actually like to ride.

Watch pinkbikes video of the squamish enduro guranga section. Guranga is in this remi edit and it was in one of the stages from the 2018 squamish enduro. Not sure if they will get insurance to run that section again...

Holy shits... Whenever you think you are decent on a bike you watch this and feel humbled. Amazing vid
  • 5 0
This video had it all. Exceptional riding from @remymetailler and excellent video from @influxproductions that showcased it perfectly. Thanks to everyone who made this happen.
  • 7 0
that is some of the gnarliest riding i've ever seen
  • 7 0
I'd have crashed into that tree on the run in and died. The end.
  • 6 0
Thats way better without the music
  • 2 0
Sometimes you don't need these edits to be cinema with a capital C.
  • 5 0
Well $#it...turns out I suck after all???? That was some incredible riding! I wouldn’t even hike most of that!
  • 5 0
He is definitely the most exciting rider to watch out there.he rides like a surgeon...
  • 2 0
Any chance for a "behind the scenes" edit? Like the first bit of video where he talks about hitting his bar on the tree. I feel like there is a lot more going on in this edit and would love to see his process for run up, landing and exit. Unless he is such a bad ass he just looks at it once and does it.
  • 6 0
oh his youtube channel there are a couple videos where he takes the time to talk through line choice, and he also has a behind the scenes for this video too youtu.be/bghEI4mDTls

I wonder how much does a back tyre lasts under such punishment
  • 10 0
in the youtube comment, remy said he changes them about every 3 days.
  • 11 0
@Ironchefjon: Ahh ok, no wonder I can't ride like this yet. Damn 2 month old tires holding my progression back!
  • 2 0
@remymetailler Would love to see you on the WC circuit. I've seen you a few times at rampage and you are always the fastest down the mtn there. What you do on a single crown is pretty nuts. Cheers!
  • 2 0
What would it feel like to peel off the pads and climb into the truck beaming with satisfaction after sending that much Gnar without shedding so much as a drop of blood?! Remy, you beast!
  • 3 0
Props for making the gnar look easy and fun. I've only done the mark my words drop- many years ago.
  • 5 0

Holy sh!t. That is the most insane video I have ever seen. Hitting that stuff, at that speed, is suicidal for humans!
  • 2 0
Crazyville, the IN and Out gap puts it into perspective for me. I just crept down that thing...never would I jump down that. Impressive braking ,riding skills!!
  • 3 0
 Unbelievable speed, style and balls
  • 3 0
Had to watch it twice! Fireworks of unbelievability!

  • 3 0
Fake. Those aren't 38mm stanchions so this is impossible.
  • 2 0
With such an ambassador, Cube could offer an iron with wheels that it would sell on its own!
  • 2 0
Most impressive riding I have seen to date. A true Masterclass in trail riding.

Sick! That’s why my cat is named after him!

Big Grin
  • 3 0
That confirms it then. The French are the best bike riders .
  • 2 0
It’s up on YouTube and it’s wild
  • 2 2
Amazing. Looks so easy. But a simple jet helmet seems to be a little bit limited in my opinion, considering the high speed and how huge these gaps are !!!
  • 2 0
He explained several times why he's using such helmet.
  • 2 0
@tonit91: Oh ok sorry man, didn't see that. Anyway that's just my opinion.
  • 3 1
 Where? @tonit91:
  • 2 4
@tonit91: those trees amd rocks don't care about any explanation
  • 3 0
@enduroNZ: On Pinkbike...his reason was that he feels more comfortable with a half lid and that his vision is not obstructed...something like that.
  • 2 0
@PauRexs: he’s hit those features at first mostly with a fullface, esp. that 3:30 mark feature. He rides them again and again until he feels comfortable and with calculated speed and superb skills, him riding with half lid just feels natural.
  • 1 0
@juneykudoy24: Thanks dude well understood. Incredible some people can downvote someone gor asking ingenue why.
  • 3 0

 Great edit.
  • 2 3
Very Impressive! I gotta think he’d be more known if he had a hit more personality. Even a smile every now & then?
  • 28 0
no, I'm a d**k and I never smile. You would not want to be friends with me..
  • 5 0
Hey, progress in gender equality! Even guys are being told to smile more.
  • 4 0
@remymetailler: What is the backpack you wear in this video Remy ? or is it a parachute ?
  • 2 0
@remymetailler: hahaha.......I've done some of those slabs, way...way...way less speed and both tires on the ground, there was no smiling until I made it safely to the bottom!
