Where Dreams Do Come True

2014 would bring Red Bull and it's Dreamline competition to the East Coast for the first time since its inception two years ago. Thirty-two of BMX's best were invited from around the globe to compete in the Mountains of Western North Carolina at the Oskar Blues REEB Ranch. Here's all that went down over the two days of competition.

nofilter - It s winking at ya. Nothing but natural pure unfiltered Western North Carolina sunlight as it pierces the ridge line of Sheep Mountain. Pic taken atop Cedar Mountain Dupont State Forest just seven miles south of Oskar Blues REEB Ranch.

Good Morning Dreamliners - The Oskar Blues REEB Ranch backs up against the Dupont State Forest with about 90 miles of Cross Country goodness. This just happens to be this photographer s local stomping ground and I ve got nothing but love for Dupont. If you haven t come plan a trip. Not to mention within a 30 minute drive there s options . Pisgah NF Bent Creek just to name a couple. Each trail system is well worth it. Pic also taken atop Cedar Mountain.

The Yellow Submarine - The Oskar Blues REEB Ranch is somewhat remote and couldn t handle the volume of traffic expected for the event three thousand tickets could equal a lot cars and one heck of a mess for the back roads of Brevard. So event partner sponsor Oskar Blues Brewery arranged to have all spectators shuttled the eight miles fourteen minutes from the Brewery in downtown Brevard to the venue at the Ranch.

But that s not what caught our eye this little two wheeled gem did. Probably was wishful thinking that we d see a demo of this whip. Not sure the locals or the PoPo would appreciate it as much as we would.

Prob What Won it for Him - In the end Ryan Nyquist was one of the few riders to trick the top half of the course and continue all the way through with hits like a flip no-hander to barspin. Compounded with the rest he laid down, it was good enough to secure him the win. Congrats Ryan! ("Old" men still got it!!!!!)

And a few of them riding without brakes, haha

Bmx guys always build the sweetest jumps. Just don't hit them on your DH bike unless you can back flip. Those takeoffs be steep.

We had heard at the event the upper part of the course is supposed to stay and remain unchanged. The builders are only supposed to dumb down the three jumps at the bottom. We'll see this coming Sunday as we are going back to the farm for a small local pump track event at the venue.

i remember when nyquist showed up on haro under dave mirra's shadow. glad to see him still killing it nearly 20 years later. i still love riding and watching bmx. makes me feel like im 16 again.

The event was amazing! We had a great time and the ridding was top notch, however I can't say the same for the judging.... The crowd was a much better judge of skill and most importantly, STYLE! I still don't understand why Doyle lists himself from PA. He is from NC!

What, no full face helmets, and shocks... And, what, no senseless, endless photos of people, um, turning through trees...

where's the collection of "this is what my drive-trane looks like.."

Kudos for posting this since it's actually enjoy, glam-free, un-pink-bike-like. bike-riding.

So fortunate the rain didn't wreck it. We have a tendency for it to just come in and sit and soak for days. So glad NC is getting it's due for biking.

Ryan Nyquist's and Chris Doyle's suicide double trucks are to die for. So glad to see them still competitive. I hope Doyle did his signature shoulder buzz three!

Welcome to North Carolina in the fall! There are some very vibrant colors here.. the rain right before finals made them that much more intense.
