It's funny, I was fixated on those stumps too. I kept thinking how bad it would be to go down on all of those stumps, the trees looked tight as well, and Gee blazed through them!
Some sick flow, even though there's some crazy gnarl to navigate to keep it. Gotta be feeling it. Says to self "whoho I'm doin this sh, I'm havin fun, here goes...Bam Pow yeah boy'. Whew. Manual out the finish.
Gee prob helped with this. Reminds me of their Quarry Line. I hope this event is held on the perfect day, and I hope they won't do it in the rain even for Red Bull.
@Alias530 The French are renown for finding the fastest and straightest lines down a race track... Sometimes the term "French line" can connote trail cutting, or cheating, but certainly the term denotes riding to the limits of the track boundaries to create the shortest path. Sometimes the line choice can be unusual, inspired, or simply take advantage of an unforseen alternate route not intended by track designers... and now you know a little more about bike racing... You're welcome...
@WAKIdesigns Every single article, you're always here with the same painfully unfunny puerile drivel. Do you spend all day browsing pinkbike? It wouldn't surprise me if you were this much of an insufferable autist in real like oh my god.
Are you really complaining because companies like Jeep, Coke, etc are willing to throw down six figure sums of money so that you can watch it for free in high def?
Yes, shame on them for providing us free entertainment.
Yeah, as @salespunk and @sino428 said, these companies are what make these events possible, and help mountain bike become more of a recognised sport, which is super helpful when you are struggling with track closures with your local council as they don't see it like they see soccer and other sports. Plus, all Jeep did was plugged their product at the start and the finish. You were able to watch the whole run without interruptions from sponsors, and to be honest, gapping over the jeep towards the end was badass!
Heh. yeah - I know. And to be sure, it's awesome that Jeep and other companies sponsor these sort of events. Jeep's been sponsoring bike stuff for years, and they definitely deserve credit for that.
But the whole "conquer the Jeep Renegade Step Up" thing is a bit over the top. Armies conquer. Countries conquer. Mountain bikers don't really conquer. It's just like how every quote that comes out of Dan Atherton's mouth these days is so loaded up with cliched epic radness that it's kinda hard to read without laughing a bit.
To put it another way, I think Jeep is cool for sponsoring these sort of events. But they loose most of their credibility when they load up their press releases with these stupid dude-bro-isms that sound like a they come out of the mouth of a 55 year old with bleached hair and cargo shorts who's trying to be "hip with the kids."
Not sure the women and less experienced juniors would be down with that! No offence intended, Dan mentioned that Rachel wasn't keen in his interview and I'm not bloody surprised! Although it would be awesome to see a full WC race on this bad boy.
Totally agree. Usually it bothers me that i'll never ride like the best. That video though... nope... nope!... nope nope nope. Never been so happy I get a thrill from hucking some random root.
When they have finished with track it needs to used as trail centre, it will immediately solve the debate of whether trailil centre are being made to easy and enduro spec
I think that is about the absolute human limit of this sport. The wall has been found. Just watched it again. It gets scarier every time you watch it because you see stuff you missed earlier. Hard to believe anybody could ride this. I lost count of how many times the tire buzzed him. 8" of travel bottoming out hard over and over again. Damn that's some intense shit.
I have watched this video like 5 times now. About the fourth time, I realized I was holding my breath for everyone one of those insane hits until he landed. I damn near passed out on the fifth viewing....that air time is ridiculous!!
Am I the only one thinking that this event would be killer if there were some more big hitters from the free ride world attending? Imagine Zink, Semenuk, McCaul, Andrieu and McGarry racing this. Ultimate cross over event.
That would be rad. A lot of people forget the Freeride guys aren't slow by any means, especially Semenuk I saw him and the boys at Whistler and he's honestly so damn good on a bike that he can ride through tech shit at pretty convincing speeds, he would probably do well in DH. Free riders are definitely masters of two wheels, racing just isn't their cup of tea.
Sick track!! Stump nightmares after what I saw. Watched this video while doing paperwork in the can. Really helped to scare the shit out !!!! Really stocked to watch this event
This trail looks freaking epic. I hope they have cameras set up everywhere. Watching it gave me chills. One jump was so big Gee just wobbled the bike left to right because he had so much air time. I know the feeling from smaller jumps! Can't wait for this event!
That track should make riders just as nervous as rampage. I don't think I've ever heard so much from Gee on a gopro before, probably saying to himself f#ck you Dan, your trying to kill me! Those tech sections are brutal!
Rampage is weird to me, it's supposed to be this huge crossover of the pinnacles of mountain biking but most of us dont ever ride that kind of shit. I Would much rather see the same pool of riders compete on a fest track or even just a trail at whistler
I'm curious if the riders will have full team support, or mechanics on hand? I would think suspension set up and tuning would be key. This course has a lot of everything to tune for. I'm curious to see if everyone will be running coil on the rear or air. I would think having your mechanic on hand for help with the suspension would be key, not to mention other issues, but I figure even World Cup riders as being able to make adjustments; anyone notice how many photo epics have Greg M. wrenching on his bike?
I'm sure there were many points during that run that Gee was thinking, 'Dan...WTF?' But he still had the presence of mind to finish with the camera pointed at the Jeep. What a pro.
Looks crazy. There is a point where the track is bigger than the riders though. Dan... broken. Taylor Vernon. ... broken.... Braytons case of the step up... gee pulling out of features... healing vibes to all that have been and anyone who gets hurt trying to prove something they don't need to prove.
Holy shit, that's tracks insane. Just one of those big features are crazy, but none stop on a 4 minute track. I think I'm having a hart attack!!!! We need a whole series of hardline. But I don't think anyone would last the series without braking themselves.
What to say except that is the most extreme downhill riding ever. I think that one just win the go pro line of the friggin world contest. Gee rules no doubt.
Nice section at 3:10 for a plunge to your death off to the right. Even Dan put pads down there just in case. Will be interesting to see the final course.
Holy fack! That's very a) scary b) impressive c) very impressive riding from Gee especially bearing in mind that video won't give you real feeling of speed. And danger.

You know the jump isn't finished yet when an Atherton takes the ride-around option.
Hopefully someone is there to capture it with a Sony® Action Cam™.

(hmm. doesn't really work in print. Sorry)
On another note it's refreshing to see that our heroes are also mere mortals and do experience fear and anxiety.
