The rider line-up for the 2018 edition of Red Bull Hardline has been revealed, with the largest number of riders in the history of the event due to take part.

Red Bull Hardline, now in its fifth year, returns to the hills of Dyfi Valley in mid Wales on September 15, 2018. So far, 29 of the World’s best riders have been confirmed to take on one of the toughest downhill mountain bike races on the planet.

There are 13 British riders included in the field. Last year’s winner, Craig Evans, will be racing alongside the 2016 winner Bernard Kerr in what is set to be an epic showdown. Adam Brayton also returns with unfinished business at Red Bull Hardline - in 2017 he qualified fastest but the weather conditions and long technical course were too much to handle causing him to crash out in the final section on the last run of the day. Gee Atherton will also be returning this year following a cracking World Cup season, where he finished 9th overall after the final in La Bresse, where he qualified fastest in the rain.

Young gun Kade Edwards will be making his debut this year and will be one to watch. The 2018 Junior National DH Champion is making a name for himself with his signature style and will be wanting to get some aggressive runs in at his first Red Bull Hardline.

Riders from the world’s top downhill teams will be heading to the hills of Wales, including Trek, Canyon, GT, Devinci, Hope, Pivot, MS Mondraker and FMD.

The intense course, built by Dan Atherton, combines tricky technical downhill features with huge freeride-style jumps. Red Bull Hardline tests even the most progressive of riders, with giant slab rolls, tight wooded sections, the iconic road gap jump (with a trajectory of 55 ft) and some new epic jumps which will really test the riders at speed as they enter the final section of the course. The final fly off, which is the biggest jump ever at Red Bull Hardline, will see riders travel 65 ft as they speed towards the finish line. This is the equivalent of four double decker buses….or ten Rob Warners!

Dan Atherton said “In previous years at Red Bull Hardline, a big focus has been on the Road Gap and Step Up and so this year we wanted to change things up to build excitement all the way down. The final field is an amazing natural amphitheatre and so it made sense to use that more. We’ve tried to keep the high speed feel of the old finish but we’ve built three massive jumps all in a line that should give spectators a real feel of how fast the riders are actually going.”

 Just piggybacking your comment to add;

Would love to see Semanuk racing this
  • 50 0
@gonecoastal: that would mean he has to leave his fortress
  • 11 0
if it scared you i can't imagine how horrifying it must look for the average rider Big Grin
  • 2 0
@imho4ep: having been and seen it, It's a whole other level of nuts....
Love the keyboard warriors who say.................... Let me at it, i can smash that :-P

Has anyone actually ever said that unironically tho..@earthwormjim007:

Good job British cycling are not on the selection board
  • 3 2
 Best comment!!
  • 37 1
 USA! USA! U...wait...oh...dang.
  • 3 0
Yeah, where are the USA riders? Why don't they go and race it? I was surprised not to see anyone
  • 14 2
@MMOF: With Gwin being RB sponsored you would think he might be in on it - maybe he's not got the cajones?
  • 5 2
@MMOF: you ever tried to get to mid Wales from California?
  • 2 0
 USA and AUSSIE riders banished
  • 5 1
@BenPea: Ben, I have been many places around the world , incl. mid-Wales. So yes, it is possible to get anywhere these days. However, I don't see why they're not on the list. This travel thing is not prohibitive
  • 3 0
While I’m truly far from a fan, this particular race seems like it would be a good fit for Logan Bingelli.
  • 1 0
yeah and what about Remy Metailler?
  • 8 0
@aushred: Dave McMillan is an Aussie, not NZ
  • 3 3
@MMOF: hella congrats on being so well traveled guy
  • 2 0
@BenPea: its called an aeroplane. If he can get to Australia for races, Wales isn't a big deal
  • 2 0
@mountainyj: lmao...I oddly agree with this
  • 5 0
@spaceofades: Aeroplanes are witchcraft in mid-Wales.
  • 1 0
@mountainyj: why truly far from a fan? Have i missed something?
  • 1 0
@imho4ep: self confessed park-rat. Probably not his bag.
  • 1 0
@Endurojack: killer rider, goes fast and sends big, honestly think he could do well at hardline.
His attitude and reputation precedes him otherwise. Rampage drama mainly...doesn’t always play well with others.
  • 1 0
@Bustacrimes: he does do the odd race though, this one in particular would seem to suit him.
  • 15 0
Have a feeling this year it could be Brendog for the win!
  • 9 4
 You mean Brandan?!
  • 3 0
  • 1 0
 @rmalins: Made me chuckle
  • 11 0
 Be interesting to see after practice etc, how many are left in the actual race;
  • 4 1
 Rich, Lets guess 15!
  • 1 0
 @si-paton: That many? Lol, hopefully a good line up, and no major injurys;
  • 7 2
Sorry but gotta say I'm dissapointing with the line up. Where are the big hitters who ride Fest? Where are all the Americans and Canadians who could throw down at rampage? Glad to see BVS there, Bearclaw was there last year but didn't race.

There are a few WC guys I reckon could hit this. What about Josh (though I think the Atherton's and the Syndicate guys never got on!)...

Still some great riders going but feels a kind of UK version of rampage (which is full of USA and Can riders).

I think that Rampage and Hard-line should be back to back double bangers. Riders compete in both with a winner at each and combined winner too. I know one is points where one is against the clock, but that's half the fun, kinda Speed and Style over 2 events... Because their are individual winners as well, events can also be open to people that don't compete at both events.

I wanna see Warner laying down before the landing of that last jump. Just to, y'know, give us some perspective
  • 5 3
"The final fly off, which is the biggest jump ever at Red Bull Hardline, will see riders travel 65 ft as they speed towards the finish line. This is the equivalent of four double decker buses….or ten Rob Warners!"

65ft... Ten Rob Warners, yes. Four double decker buses.. not even close! The jump would need to be about 130ft if this was correct

Still... very much looking forward to Hardline and seeing how the track has been changed!
  • 9 2
_Clearly_ they meant the _height_ of double-decker busses... which is the _obvious_ way to measure busses... Bus length for measuring length? Please, next thing you'll tell me is that a football field is 100m
  • 9 0
@Mngnt: it's 62 Disney rulers long let's leave it at that
  • 1 0
To put that into perspective thats the same size jumps as the motorway section of fort william, they are 20m
  • 5 0
they really dont like graeme mudd...he got a top 10 there last yr!
  • 2 1
The reason i respected Gracia and Gee so much more than any of their dh generation was that they competed at Rampage, as fast as Gwin and Bruni are, not racing hardline is kind of disappointing as a fan of dh. This race is the ultimate showcase of riding and equipment. Side note, the dark fest guys should represent.
  • 3 0
Fairclough has been competing in rampage for a while now
  • 3 0
Why would they race hardline? Its basically a PR stunt for the athertons and redbull. If you look at the start list then its hardly a whos who of the current downhill top 20. But then I guess you have to take out all the athletes sponsored by different drink companies. You also have to ask whats in it for the sponsors to want to pay for their riders to go. Sure its easy for UK riders but the rest?
  • 1 0
@CM999: to be part of the few that take mtb further. This is a showcase event, much like rampage. It aims to showcase what the elite riders and equipment can accomplish. Brendog rides for monster. So it's not a redbull only riders event.

No matter how many times I watch Gee’s run on YouTube, still jaw dropping. Shit is beyond nuts. Tech, speed, huge hits, sniper trannys, exposed landscape, ETC - all in one package.

Kudos to the riders who are “invited”.

Further Kudos to the riders who are invited and actually show up.
  • 3 0
Is it an invite list, or an actual list of riders that confirmed taking part?
  • 1 0
Last time I went (in 2016 I think) the start list was really disappointing. Still really cool to be there but more than a handful of the riders I went to see didn’t turn up.
  • 4 1
Home win for Gee this time !
  • 3 0
Dave McMillan is from around here. (Australia that is) Not NZ.
  • 2 0
 Dave is AUSSIE
Graham Mudd got Top 10 last year! How is he NOT on the list?!
  • 1 0
its seems its getting more attraction, defo will be more tense with more players around ...looking forward to watch it !!!
  • 3 0
I like how it's evolved to be a Rampage-style event focused on WC DH Riders. A cool mashup!
  • 15 17
Interesting fact that the UCi have appointed a Commissaire to the event. The insurance and liability is still through Red Bull. Are the UCi are getting twitchy regards these style of high profile events that are non UCi sanctioned?

From the rule book:
1.2.019: You can’t take part in a race that’s not on the calendar of the UCI or a member federation. This means any rider racing Hardline last year could/should have been disciplined. Any team managers want to put in a dispute, there is a big race this weekend someone told me!

If the event is now on the UCi calendar or that of BC (It isn't), surely that means that the event should follow the UCi's gender equality policy. ... 'Women are to be given the same professional opportunities," as stated by the UCI.

This also opens up more questions regards the invite list, how did the above riders actually qualify?

Anyway, that's me opening up a can of worms for debate, enjoy..

Dude be quiet I want to watch more world class riding and you aren’t adding to that
  • 10 0
 >> Women are to be given the same professional opportunities

That shouldn't be a problem - the word *professional* essentially dictates a minimum standard. I totally agree that any women who can ride this should be given the opportunity to compete. The problem is even Casey Brown is unlikely to want to do so.
  • 13 3
@cpeper21: I don't think you know who si is....
  • 1 0
  • 4 7
Proper debate that Si. Should we even be allowing events to happen that dont involve any women? Surely Tahnee and Rachel can SHRAAAALP down that course.

On the UCI thing, it seems strange that they're sending a commissionairre. Might be that they want to run an event there in the future?
  • 1 0
@atomlab31: I recall at the preparations for at least one of the earlier events Rachel said (I think to Dan) that she didn't fancy riding it.

I wasn't aware of this rule. Is it new? I don't even know what's on the UCI calendar or not. Loads of UCI competition riders (both women and men) compete at Crankworx. Only men compete at the Rampage. Would that be an issue?
  • 7 3
@cpeper21: dude. Google the dude you just shat on and then feel free to come on back and eat some crow. Si most certainly has added to world class racing. I’m in Canada and I am more than familiar with some of his efforts. Dude is legit.
  • 1 0
@vinay @atomlab31: In 2015 Rachel did an interview where she said she rides all of it except the jumps regularly, but has concerns about whether she has the physical strength to be able to land the bigger jumps. Would be interesting to know what she thinks now after 3 years of getting better and everything getting bigger.
  • 1 1
@vinay: IIRC the rule was quickly added few years ago when freecaster has been replaced by as broadcaster and rummors started about new independant DH series...
  • 4 1
 No one from the USA
  • 1 1
 Right? Bs
  • 1 0
Damn this feature picture seems the one from a videogame 2 or 3 posts down... Smile
  • 1 0
Yeaaaa Craig and Keegan!!! Stoked to see everyone ride really. Hopefully everyone stays healthy!
  • 2 0
Cam Zink and Kyle Strait might be able to give it a go
  • 3 1
 Laurie is gonna claim it
  • 1 0
No Alex bond yet qualified for all other the hardline events
  • 1 0
and finished 9th last year , surely top 10 from previous years should be guaranteed
  • 1 0
Seeing bond and brewin race this always seems extra nuts cos they re not racing at WC level anymore. I'd want to be at peak race level condition. Same with Craig Evans I suppose
  • 2 0
 Love this event!
  • 1 0
Craig Evans FTW!! Looking forward to seeing him shred again.
  • 1 0
 Reece Wilson for the win!!!!!
  • 1 0
one italian Guy!! pizzaSpaghetti&mandolino gonna send it yoooo
  • 1 0
Does anyone know when this actually airs in the PST time zone? Streaming?
  • 1 0
 Auf geht's Irm!!!!
  • 1 0
 Who is brandan?
  • 1 3
 No women?
  • 3 0
Can you think of even one woman who would want to ride this? Mayyybe Casey Brown but even Rachel said that she didn't fancy riding down the course
  • 1 0
@CullenHerring: only a tiny percent of readers on here, could!
  • 4 0
I don't really fancy seeing women get mangled for my entertainment. The women often struggle with the bigger jumps on the world cup. This is a completely different level.
