Start gate two had the infamous Oakley drop.

photo
The first thing Geoff Gullevich did for morning practive on qualifying day was hit the Oakley drop. This was his qualifying run.

photo
Garret Beuhler was the first dude on practice day to hit the Oakley Icon Sender. Unfortunately he was also the first dude on qualifying day to case the Oakley drop. An unfortunate gust of wind made his landing just a bit short.
photo
Fortunately he was alright, but slammed his chest so hard that he couldn't take his second run. Sorry about the bad luck dude.

photo
James Doerfling, nailing the Oakely sender and charging over the gap to claim a clean first run.

With the first runs complete, it was Logan Binggeli holding down the coveted number one spot.

The view from start gate two. Second run, the wind picked up, and only four dudes took they're second run from start gate two.

Start gate two was just as burly as start gate one.

In the end it was Logan Benggeli holding on to the top qualifying spot.

Mike Kinrade Update
photo
Kinrade didn't compete in qualifying as he went down in practice on this line. This photo is from 2008 showing the same hit. We went to check up on Mike in the hospital. Listen to him talk about the crash and his injury. Get better budday!

Being jacked sucks!! I hope y'all are back giving it ASAP!!

Such huge gnarly lines. I'm not sure how all the guys hittin this stuff can slang their giant balls over each side of their seat. Big brass props to the riders. Props to the doctors for fixing the broken ones.

Why do they keep hiring Brad Ewen for these events. That guy is such a tool

I really hope Zink 360's the Oakley sender

It would be cool to see for sure, but all that dude has been talking about at contests is how happy he is to be healthy finally after four years of knee surgery. It would be rather easy to ruin your health trying to 360 a drop like that one. Seeing how its probably the riskiest thing anyone has done on a mtb in a while I don't think it would be a smart move, but if he thinks its worth it then all the power to him.

It seems like Zink would have to be spinning really slowly to land a 360 off a mega feature like that.
  • 1 0
He mentioned he wanted to, Gracia said Zink wanted to as well, and it was also on Vital MTB I think. I would love to see him try it and do it

i wish that lame fat dork announcer would get hurt and have to stop talking. Brad Ewen is the only thing that SUCKS about this event.
