Reece Potter Takes Flight - Video

Just an average day in the life for Kiwi shredder Reece Potter as he hunts down the shadiest gaps, drops and hucks that Queenstown has to offer. For Reece, Queenstown is home for the warmer 6 months of the year before moving onto the northern hemisphere, if and when funds allow, where he plans to savage Europe and the World Cup series once again. Unfortunately for Reece, the last shot of the video was the last of the day with Reece suffering a broken femur in the crash, but all is well and these boys are already getting ready for round two.

 That was wild!
  • + 31
I think this video is on par with Remy's whistler one.
  • + 7
I still think George Brannigan's is the best. Wild.

For Sale; lightly used Zerode DH bike. Perfect condition, only ridden lightly on local trails. Only selling because of injury.
$2300 ono

Yeah, RIGHT!
  • + 3
You would be lucky to get a 650b Zerode for that price

A blatant disregard for his car, his bike and for himself. And I for one applaud him. Hope that hospital bed is bolted to the wall or he'll be taking that down some stairs next..
  • + 67
Step one: Buy a mountain bike that is more expensive than your car.
  • + 4
Lewis you got this one completely wrong. If your car is more expensive don't even bother... Smile
  • + 4
That huck to knuckle smash @ 1:33 tho? This Kiwi is f*cking unhinged.
  • + 4
@LEWIS103 Step two buy the following bike for each disapline
  • + 76
This dude is the definition of a "Loose rider", very fitting sponsor. This guy was absolutely shredding great work
  • + 71
I'm seeing way too many trees next to the where he's landing a lot of these hucks... Balls of steel, coated in more steel.
  • + 6
 Balls for days, huge style
  • + 6
Hence breaking his femur in the last clip. Mad props though, this dude is on one!
  • + 56
Remy has some comp me thinks.
  • + 5
 Dude that was brutal
  • + 19
Remy vs potter game of bike
  • + 12
^ more like game of huck
  • + 72
i want to stay alive. Won't play a Game of Bike with Reece. Massive lines from him. Hope he is getting better from the crash and will do some more videos like that !
  • + 14
Go on Remy.... Imagine the hype. The two of you would be able to break the interwebz...
  • + 6
He's as off line as a Russian border! - Rob Warner I was sweating like a whore in a church watching this guy. His poor mother
  • + 48
reece. you are a loose c**t. that was sick
  • + 42
 definitely not a SRAM commercial.
  • + 8
laughed out loud in class during a silent study so hard at that. thanks
  • + 35
 there is hope in mountainbiking
  • + 27
One thing this Vid taught me........Never buy anything 2nd hand from Reece Potter!, cause it'll be hucked to F*@K.
Hope your recovery goes well, best of luck.
  • + 19
well f*ck me that is one hell of a shredder..

Zerode too? Silent as can be
  • + 9
yeah.. by the looks of this video i'm starting to wonder why Zerode doesn't have more costumers..
  • + 26
The design of the Zerode doesn't conform to what most people are comfortable with as a MTB. I'm sure the internal gearbox design is the future and they're just too far ahead of the game to be appreciated right now. Just wait until a big manufacturer like Giant,Spec,Trek etc make one and they'll get all the accolades and props.

@FurryCrew : Have you ridden a zerode? They're downright odd. They feel super light sometimes because of the lack of derailleur, but then you go to move the bike horizontally and its heavy as f*ck. They also feel pretty weird in some corners because the weight is all up high.
  • + 1
One biggish manufacturer (GT) had gearbox bikes for a while - but obviously they felt it wasn't the way forward.
  • + 5
I ride alot in Rotorua and have done a couple of laps at Skyline on a borrowed Zerode. I currently ride a Glory and it definitely feels weird at first. Much more tractor like than the Glory but somehow very lively. I would def consider buying local (Zerode) if I buy another DH bike for sure.

That heavy as f*ck horizontal feeling was explained to me. Because the wheelbase grows (suspensions moves back and out of the way on impact not up and in like a lot of suspension designs) as the suspension compresses it feels sluggish at slow speed. Once it's up to speed it just mows through most everything and feel flighty and has that feeling of weightlessness even though it's near on 40lbs.
  • + 2
I've owed Zerode G1's and G2's, and your right they are unconventional feeling. They are truly a "racers" bike that require a little more muscling around then your mainstream Dh rigs and I won't lie I wasn't partially impressed with the way it took corners. And there was no denying that its heavy. It felt sluggish at low speed and never really popped out of burms. Although, where it lacked in cornering it made up for in stability at speed and its rock gobbling capability. It was a shining star when you were giving full commitment pace and only seemed to really show its true colours when going balls to the wall. The no derailleur thing was really nice, and you could really set and forget the system and spend many laps maintenance free. Although theirs claims that suspension was not effected under baking I found that it defintly stiffened up and lost traction. I would buy another one if it managed to shed a few pounds, but for the money that they are going for at the moment they are defiantly worth a look if your in the market for a new frame.
  • + 2
@FurryCrew I did a lap down Whistler on a G2, I can assure you speed was not an issue. It's a very cool concept just with some major downfalls. If they were to lower the center of mass and maybe make the wheel path a bit less extreme they'd have a winner.

Especially if they can integrate the new Di2 alfine.
  • + 19
thats some of the maddest shit ive ever seen...this guys no fuck giving is up there with metallier
  • + 4
Higher. Metallier looks like he's keeping it in control. This guy's just like fuck it.
  • + 19
I guess trails are just suggestions
  • + 18
Does every mountain biker in NZ own one of those cars????
  • + 49
There is just one car that we all lend to each other for edits since we dot want to thrash our own cars.
  • + 2
Late 80s Lancers where the bomb!
  • + 3
@patrick-marsh I wish I could give you +1 000 000 props for that comment. Pure gold!
  • + 14
Here I sat in awe, imagining all the gnarly crashes I would go through were I to ride at that insane speed
  • + 13
That's not biking, that's flying with style
  • + 10
VOM for sure! Super Sick..... He needs Red Bull Sponsership
  • + 8
that last crash !!! seeing how he gaps everything makes we wanna see an edit of him with REMY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • + 7
I'll be in Queenstown next week. I'm trying to envision myself coming down these same trails. Even my generous imagination looks shit compared to this.
  • + 7
How he shredded that car couldn't get more rad, I thought... and then things got even more rad! Mindblown, def the best edit I've seen in looong time.
  • + 9
 Is he still alive?
  • + 8
seriously. I counted three or four times that he was within inches of a tree at mach 10. Some gnarly gaps.
  • + 6
Dam. He hucks every where way to sick I love that transfer. At the end Crazy!!!! Keep killing it potter
  • + 3
I know it is expensive If Zerode made a trail(enduuro) bike i'm sure it would sell well. The market for downhill bikes just isn't that large or lucrative in comparison to the market for trail bikes. Larger companies often use downhill as more of a halo product to sell their smaller bikes rather than a large profitable section of their range. Though there are the financial considerations of developing and creating the tooling new bike especially for a small company
  • + 1
That's from 2012, pretty sure it was just a short shocked/forked DH frame. He's working on an Enduro frame, that'll be carbon. Saw him riding a carbon mule about a year ago, don't know how far along it is now.
  • + 1
It'll be next year. Can't wait.
  • + 1
I saw something like that in nzmtbr or spoke years ago but I had heard they were struggling with the setup expense/prototyping for production of a final design being a tiny company. No idea how true that was or if it was just pub bs talk. I really hope they have got something coming in the next year
  • + 2
They're currently testing their prototype enduro bike
  • + 5
Sometimes you gotta pay to play, damn. Here's to a quick recovery so you can get back out there and blow some more minds.
  • + 6
Is this a commercial for Air New Zealand?
  • + 3
It's the air nz safety video
  • + 1
Worst safety video I ever saw Razz
  • + 6
This is gnarliest fucking video I've ever seen
  • + 1
there's something about a blatant disregard for safety that gets me excited! As more and more responsibilities pop up in my own life that make me think twice before going balls out, it is awesome to see other guys willing to put it all on the line for the sport we all love!!! keep up the great work RP
  • + 5
Who knew Remy's dad spent some time in the southern hemisphere?
  • + 4
Pretty sure you can hear his femur snap in that crash. Nutty riding. Hopefully he heals up quick.
  • + 5
I LOVE REECE! Are people paying attention? We need more videos like this!
  • + 3
The entire time i was wondering how there weren't more crashed but thanks for the ending of the video. Still amazing he did eat it more though Razz

Great Vid!
  • + 5
I would be the dude under-jumping that small table top before him.
  • + 6
0:56. How did he do it?
  • + 2
That was the craziest part of the edit i think! Lightning reflexes
  • + 4
damn. that is some scary awesome shit.
  • + 4
Holy fuck that was pinned. Remy has some competition!
  • + 5
 my brain just melted
  • + 3

 his bike thinks otherwise
  • + 9
No cracked Zerodes to date that I've heard of. Got the right tool for the job.
  • + 0
There's a video out there of a Zerode rear drop out sheering off on landing at an NZ national DH round a couple of years ago.
  • + 4
I remember that. It was a dodgey bolt that broke. It was threaded the whole way rather than having a threadless shank that passed through the frame / bearings. The stresses placed on the threaded portion of the bolt caused the bolt to snap.
The frame was fine, put back together and ridden again.
  • + 2
"Drop out sheering off" is a misleading comment.
A bolt broke. No Zerode cracked.
The frames will have to crack one day, especially after the sort of punishment in that video, but none so far in five years or however old the Zerodes are.
Frame in video he's had for a couple of years I heard.
  • + 4
:55 O_o wut da fuk wuz dat?
  • + 1
 magic
  • + 2
That tree almost "jumped" into his line. freaking scary.
  • + 3

  • + 3
He is the New Zealand version of remy
  • + 3
I've ridder some of these track @ like 1/5th the speed!
  • + 1
I found myself laughing uncontrollably in disbelief at that last hit where he did his femur. That was so impressive! Nice work
  • + 1
Parralax Media, holy shit. Someone needs to hire Scott Robb and give him lots of money to keep making awesome edits like this. VOM!
  • + 1
one of the few videos where honestly i couldn't help myself from yelling expletives out loud! damn reece, that speed you have!, very impressive!
  • + 1
Sick, so gutted that when I went to Queestown on 2005 I wasn't even in to riding :-(
