Incredible perseverance, riding, and building Reece! SO sick! Hopefully we'll all be cheering for you at Rampage in a couple months.

Why are health treatment fundraising commom on web to help/support some unlucky rider ?
Unlucky in a fall and unlucky in have after born such a health coverage.

This explains so much. Forget the shore, the real reason Canadian freeride was so big is because of the lack of consequences

 You really think it's free?
  • 64 1
@leftCoastBurn: You're right, it's not free but universal and there's no variable cost (i.e. you pay no matter how much you use it). But considering it doesn't really cost us any more in taxes per capita than our neighbours to the south who still have to pay for either private insurance or medical bills on top of their taxes, one could argue that it's effectively free when compared to the US model.
  • 10 0
@fakiko: It's a good question. Those fundraisers are not for medical costs. They are usually intended to help with living expenses and other day-to-day expenses related to being injured. That and loss of wages if the injured person make their income from riding.

@big-red: we pay way less taxes than you. That's ok, I'll take my "not free" health care over canadian any day.
  • 51 5
@MajesticLuk: you can have your monthly mass shootings as well.
  • 7 3
@onemind123: Dailey, actually. Mass shooting is 4+
  • 19 1
@MajesticLuk I got news for you, the US government spends more per capita on healthcare than Canada does, and as a US taxpayer, you still have to pay thousands each year of your income to actually have that healthcare. We are being reamed to death. www.businessinsider.com/us-spends-more-public-money-on-healthcare-than-sweden-or-canada-2017-4P

@Rubberelli: Neither health care system is perfect, and Canadian health care has declined over the years, but more people in the United States don't have health care than the entire Canadian population, and millions more in the USA lack adequate healthcare. Not to mention insurance premiums aren't cheap and companies are still completely f*cking over clients when they get sick or injured. Some of the middle class population in the USA have stopped paying premiums to put the money towards their household income because their expenditures are huge. That's f*cked.
  • 2 0
There's also a vicious cycle between providing emergency room care to the uninsured, how that leaves the expenditure up to the medical center, or state, and in a round-about way makes it back to increasingly high premiums for those who do pay for adequate medical insurance. I believe it was what Obamacare was originally attempting to ameliorate with the 'mandatory' insurance requirement.

Just wish I didn't have to have an extra $1000 USD ready for the Whistler medical center 'just-in-case' trip.
  • 1 3
@twozerosix: In the end the healthcare system hurts the middle class. If you are poor things are provided for you. If you are rich, money isn't an issue. I just suffer paying the fee for not owning insurance. When my mom broke her shoulder they asked what insurance she had. When my parents said they didn't have insurance and were paying cash they lowered the price. Cash is still king here, and nothing's guaranteed with insurance.
  • 2 0
@MrReddington: the insert any> system is rigged against the middle class, wouldn’t you say? Volume play to squeeze the pennies from the largest segment of the population.
  • 1 0
@MrReddington: This actually gets my goat. it happens here as well. We don't have private insurance so a lot of non-critical care isn't covered. We usually get a pretty nice discount from service providers for not being insured... which simply proves how much friggin waste and profit there is in the insurance industry. Maybe cut them out and charge what it actually costs to provide the care?

I stood at the top of the last roll today and it's f*cked up. The fact he didn't get a rampage spot dissapointed me beyond anything. #letreecein
  • 57 1
 I wouldn't call that slab double black...more like 5.8/5.9+
  • 3 0
Easier to roll down for sure though Wink
  • 3 0
you can ride it or have someone belay you on it, either way works.
  • 32 9
 awesome video! mad skills!
but why no back protector?
besides being an inspiration for anyone who wants to achieve what you have, or who had an injury and is in recovery, you should also teach everyone specially kids, that being a pro rider is not only about skills, but also about respect for your body and for the stunts you are hitting...
  • 27 5
There plenty of freeride and WC riders that don't wear them, its personal preference not about a responsibility to teach others or children to wear protection, look at how many bmx/skateboarders don't even wear helmets. Using a saw without gear is more dangerous in my opinion.

That said, that rock roll is faking nuts
  • 5 3
@VPS13: Pretty sure the UCI now requires them as they don't even let you practice without elbow protection.

It looks cooler to not wear any armor. Makes your t-shirt flap in the slow-motion breeze. Being able to walk when you are 30 years old is soooo over rated.
  • 103 1
Sometimes you gotta learn the hard way...I wear a back protector now.
  • 7 0
@reecewallace: my wife broke her transverse process on l2, l3, l4 3 weeks ago when she fell down a steep hillside onto a boulder while riding. It's going to be pretty motivating for her to see that you're back strong after 12 weeks. I hope she wears a back protector also...very inspiring video. Thanks!

RESPECT man, after a hard crash and injury like that, going back to face it again and accomplish it say's a lot about you as a rider and as a man! Cheers man, keep chasing your dreams and good luck wherever your dreams take you!

Damn. The only thing I've been thinking about a lot lately, is like, "if you do something, it's all on you". Like you know, if you're a stormtrooper, and you run into a tree, and explode, none of the other stormtroopers are effected. I think that's why modern people are so feminine, you know, thinking 20 steps ahead, and avoiding things.
  • 98 0
 How high are you?
  • 10 0
Aren't the storm Troopers riding Speeder Bikes when they crash into trees and explode? Surely they can't just run into a tree and explode?
  • 13 0
@TinyTim10: This is why I stopped doin' drugs. Tin foil hats on the other hand....awesome!
  • 13 0
@Smokey79: That's why you rarely see storm troopers jogging in the woods during the dry season

That wall could be used for rock climbing lesson.

It's a whole lot tougher nailing tricks on jumps in the forest. Rock roll reminds me of early Rampsge days when sick lines were the main attraction.

Give him a spot in rampage. We all need to see this savage on the rampage course. Plus he's local vancouver. The home of freeride.

One of my favorites riders, absolutely love the passion for riding that shows through in all his edits! Hope he gets the spot/recognition he deserves. #reeceforrampage

As someone who just broke their back in a similar manner (while not riding nearly as hard as Reece), this video is INCREDIBLY motivating and makes me believe that I will one day ride again. Hope to see him crush it in Rampage this year!
