Reece Wilson Out of World Champs with Concussion after Crash in Training

 Seems like a good way to provide a first person account of a major event to your fans. At least he isn't sharing badly lit photos of his lunch.

 Makes loads of sense - a lot of people use social media to update their friends/followers with what's going on in their life and a pro athlete missing the main event after qualifying in top 10 is a pretty good reason to let followers know why they aren't racing

 I like that top athletes share they injuries and road to recovery. I've been sitting on half of my season so far due to back problems and seeing that I am not the only one to struggle is comforting I guess but what is the most valuable is the motivation they display during recovery which gives me courage and motivation to not give up on my sport/life.
Back in the days this wasn't like that and during similar curveballs I got I think it would have been something I would have also appreciated.

 All helmets adhere to the same standards. Maybe their bikes are just SO FAST that the energy in the crash is higher! Or maybe their bikes are so bad that they're unstable and cause crashes! Maybe the tires are etc etc etc

 Unfortunately whatever marketing spin is put on it, whatever type of helmet you wear, if you hit your head the wrong way, there’s a strong possibility of doing damage. It’s just a bit of squishy meat in a hard shell. Of course helmet development & new technology can always improve the level of safety but I’d say these days, riders awareness is far better & people are starting to realise their long term health should take priority.

 there's also research to state that it's almost impossible for a helmet to actually prevent concussions. they can maybe reduce the intensity. the only thing they're actually good at is preventing damage to the surface, which is still pretty helpful. your head bleeds a lot very quickly..

 You can actually see the line on his thigh from the top of the pad, where the elastic was pinching. It's right below the cut. It's possible that he has a big gouge in the pad, but in either case, that's way above where any kneepad would normally protect.
