All that on a single-crown 13kg machine that actually can climb. Amazing time to be a mountain biker.
  • + 4
Dam Reg. After the opening segment, I was expecting a nice, chilled scenic all mountain singletrack ride. Little did I expect the absolute shred-fest that followed. That top section looks gnarly.
  • + 3
It's amazing how modern flashy bike can cost close to one year income in Eastern Europe Big Grin
  • + 5
The ridge from 1:10 - 1:17 is "you fall, you die" exposure on both sides and only a few feet wide. I walked that part.

It's always a blast shredding with Reg Mullett, until he gets a flat, which happens often Wink

Shred on buddy!
  • + 4
@danny: likewise, always a blast chasing or having you play chase! By the way your welcome for the tow in on all those STRAVA KOM's!
  • + 2
 Trail bikes are rad!!!
  • + 2
Just insane. Probably the loosest vid out there to date. There's no solid ground where he was riding, just gravel and boulders.
  • + 35
 That was fucking rowdy
  • + 5
ive personally been up there. only managed to ride down from 1.45 onwards. SICK place to ride ! the video dont do justice how steep that upper section is. Thats my goal this year is to clean the whole thing top to bottom.
  • + 1
 @viatch: Do it!
  • + 1
@moolay: Will do ! first gotta assemble the Flip-Crew Smile
  • + 33
if ever there was a time to wear knee pads and a full face helmet...you crazy @moolay
  • + 3
I wanted to say the same thing. In the end awesome skills and riding, but we all would hate to see the worst.
  • + 9
 @conv3rt : It's all good - he had a Marsh Guard!
  • + 7
@mckrider @conv3rt : Thanks gents, your right, it's just I have been riding in these types of places on a regular basis for 10yrs and hiking in loose scree while carrying your bike on your shoulder for long periods of time; it's nice to be light and minimal. I used to ride a full on DH bike and Armour up here but have gotten into the routine of little bikes and little armour. With all the Blackrock laps over the years, I have only ever had 2 crashes.
  • + 1
@moolay: nice, man. Good to see you're still pushing the envelope out there in AB. Hit me with a text if you're ever out this way. be good to catch up!
  • + 2
@conv3rt: For sure! I can always use some Nelson action!
  • + 3
EVERYONE can always use some Nelson action! haha. Got some nice new trails for you to sample!
  • + 1
 @conv3rt: This is true.
  • + 18
"How much you wanna bet I could throw this football over them mountains"
  • + 17
Cool riding and all, how bout that Sprinter tho.
  • + 3
It's a beast. Had the chance to see it in action. Ultimate camp and shuttle machine.
  • + 2
$70000 before you start shoving camping gear into it. Just priced one out over the weekend.
  • + 4
@bsedola: I priced out used ones a few years ago. Still driving my 16 year old 4runner...
  • + 3
@westeast: Man, it's the best. I've rigged up a sleeping platform for my '00 Runner... awesome for camping, wheeling, shuttling. I'm never getting rid of that baby!
  • + 1
 @danny611: 3rd gen 4runner FTW!
  • + 1
@bsedola: don't they start at ~$25K? what accessories push the price up so much?
  • + 12
Funny how little you seem to hear about Alberta riding even though it has so much good terrain. Maybe the locals are just good at keeping secrets.
  • + 4
@GatoGordo: Then you should come to Ontario, we have huge lift-serviced peaks and awesome bike parks!
  • + 2
 @h82crash: "...Ontario....huge.....peaks"
Does not compute.
  • + 16
@y7kim: I think your computer may have the 'irony firewall' turned on. Check your settings.
  • + 5
Just drove thru Alberta on the way to Alaska. Canada is ridiculous! Rad people and amazing scenery. Can't wait to make it back.
  • + 14
Sweet. Makes Razors Edge look like a sidewalk.
  • + 14
These are some burly lines for no knee pads and half-lid. Huge props!
  • + 1
indeed. My knees were weeping while I watched...
  • + 10
Hell yeah Reg! Way to represent Alberta's gnar. A friend suggested we ride Blackrock. I showed him the trailforks link - he was appalled - A picture of Reg descending >50% grade changed his mind.
  • + 6
Is that one of the Santa Cruz's with the new metal material? Alloy or something like that.
  • + 5
Nope, last year's Nomad in Carbon.
  • + 6
Nice vid! Is it me or is the video speed up? Wins alone for the rig.
  • + 1
not only you, that's shame some videos are spoilt by speed ups
  • + 0
 @Havier: indeed.
  • + 1
I had the same feeling in a few spots, either video frames seemed to be missing or speed was out of sync on the different bits.
  • + 5
Captain Shred slays another one! Awesome capture of Reg's passion for alpine knar Andrew.
  • + 1
 Thanks Jack!
  • + 5
if redbull wanted rampage to be in Canada. That would be the place to do it
  • + 2
Disagree .. Cant dig in there .. Jumps built with stones ? Big Grin
  • + 3
@RedBurn: That's what Rampage should be all about, all natural!
  • + 1
@MrDuck: agreed .. But u need obstacles haha! Here ..
  • + 3
Reg is RAD! Really elevated my riding level, having met him, and shredding summits like this! Black Rock being the first ride he showed me really opened my eyes to big mountain riding. Alberta is amazing!!
  • + 2
Sick filming and action, love this edit so much more cause I know those lines! Intense. Nice work guys.
  • + 2
@Kyle201: Yeh buddy! Our adventures this year really got me back feeling comfortable in this terrain! Imagine what a Wendell edit would look like. Thanks for the inspiration and adventures! I do all this on a full suspension bike, @kyle201 is all hardtail. Mad props!
  • + 1
Hell yeah! Stoked on inspiration this year and hope to see more edits of these amazing places. Definitely need to head back up Black Rock soon @Kyle201
  • + 4
That was slightly terrifying to watch...with no knee pads as well...good job!
  • + 3
Yea buddy! Nice to see someone also from Atlantic Canada Smile
Not something i can say i see much off, Matt beers and Reg have hopefully rode together!
  • + 2
Yeh East Coast! Haven't met Matt yet but would be honored to chase him down a trail!
  • + 3
I rode this in May. And that top part is WAAAAY steeper than it looks. I rode it all... but I was definitely not "shredding" it like he was. Nice work.
  • + 1
Nice work @paulinator! I haven't seen many ride from off the summit.
  • + 3
Wouldn't "way above the alpine" mean he that he would be literally flying above the mountain.
  • + 2
As soon as I saw your face I remembered you from your record on Mount 7. Great video, awesome skills, sketchy exposure, all in awesome. Rad!
  • + 3
Nice stuff. reminds me of 90s era extreme ski videos - both the music and terrain.
  • + 2
 That gets me stoked haha
  • + 2
Some size to them mountains, wha'? Shred "Man Alive" Moolay and Andrew "Forever Young" Young -- nice one, lads! Wicked skids were had alright.
  • + 2
Thanks but missing seeing your skids Brucey!
  • + 2
@moolay Solid riding. Intrigued by the saddle pack between the top tube and down tube... who is it made by?
  • + 2
Thanks! Thats a "performance Satchel" made here in Calgary by Neil from www.alpinethreadworks.com/products/performance-satchel.html

Hit him up, they rock!
  • + 1
 @moolay: Rad, thanks!
  • + 2
Great to see some local content back on pinkbike! Great riding and great edit.
  • + 1
 Thanks buddayy!
  • + 2
Best edit I have seen hands down. Unbelievable riding and so sketchy even to watch .
  • + 1
The amount of times I see that black sprinter loaded up with bikes every day... I always start riding from the treeline haha, that rocky stuff is way too rowdy for me!
  • + 2
Once you get the hang of the scree riding it's way easier than it looks and so cool feeling traction in a moving environment! Just gotta let it roll! Go get it!
  • + 3
Best MTB video I've seen in a long time!
  • + 1
MTB has the best names. We got a Dick Rude, a MacAskill, a Joost & now a Mullet. It's just too fvckin' awesome! Unbelievable even.
  • + 3
Is it traditional "Big Mountain", no. Is it sketchy AF... Yes. Very yes.
  • + 2
North Shore Racks, 2, 4, and 6 position available. I have a 4 and it rocks. All I will ever own.
  • + 0
2 is sold out until November Frown
  • + 2
North Shore Rack are the absolute worst racks out there if you like your bike.
  • + 3
 @rideonjon: Why's that?
  • + 0
@bishopsmike: .They are known for damaging frames over time because of where they contact the headtube..
  • + 1
@rideonjon: but they don't contact the headtube?
  • + 1
@loulew: Really have you ever used one? They definatelly contact the headtube and can wear thru if your not carefull.Shit racks.
  • + 1
@rideonjon: I own one, they contact the fork crown and the rear tire, and both my bikes have 1.5 HTs
  • + 1
@loulew: I had one and it contacted the fork crown and the headtube,it started showing signs of wear and i got ride of it.They might work for some bikes but not all.
  • + 4
 So enduro.
  • + 1
his enduro is pretty good actually
  • + 3
 I want that sprinter van
  • + 2
jealous of the van! and the bike rack! any idea on the brand of the rack?
  • + 1
i think it is the rat rack.
  • + 2
Rat Racks - Calgary based, mom and pop shop that is no longer making them. Only made them while their son's raced DH bikes.
  • + 1
There is recon racks in the states, they are close to the same. I just got one 2 weeks ago.
  • + 1
Wow Reg, you drive past my house every day where is my invite? All day hike up or did u pedal some?
  • + 1
They should open up more peaks to mountain bikes. Castle mountain in Banff would be an awesome ride.
  • + 2
What is that small frame bag?
  • + 4
Looks to me like an Alpine threadworks performance satchel?! I want one!

www.alpinethreadworks.com/products/performance-satchel.html
  • + 0
 Uh, a frame bag.
  • + 3
@PRCVT: Have a similar one for a Stumpjumper. Love it. You can get away with just that and a water bottle most rides.
  • + 7
I absolutely love my Performance Satchel! He will make them custom for any bike. Email neil@alpinethreadworks.com Awesome local shredder who supports the community www.youtube.com/watch?v=ClRC-EQ6TXs
  • + 3
@PRCVT: Thanks making a template right now.
  • + 2
@PRCVT: His stuff is so sick. Probably out last most frames!
  • + 2
@myfriendgoose: Know anyone who's used the biking packback?
  • + 5
Hey @rideonjon it is indeed my performance satchel. Dets on my website: www.alpinethreadworks.com/products/performance-satchel.html
Reg, the rider in the vid, came up with the original idea. Props to him.
  • + 3
@nwarren: But you handmade it with quality in Canada! Props to you
  • + 1
 @leelau: thanks lee
  • + 2
@nwarren: I love my satchel! perfect for quick missions from the house.
  • + 1
@ross005: I use the Selkirk skitouring pack for bikepacking. Is that what you mean?
  • + 1
@leelau: Neil has a bike specific pack now... I'm tempted to get one!
  • + 1
 @philshep: That's the JumpingPound Pack? www.alpinethreadworks.com/products/jumpingpound.html

That's the one I've got
  • + 1
@leelau: Yes that one! Wouldn't mind checking out yours before pulling the trigger.
  • + 1
Wow! that was sick. I see why you were not at the Not Two Bad premier. BERTA!!!!!!
  • + 1
Sick riding, location and filming. As a follow up I expect to see an official Pinkbike Van Check : )
  • + 2
His fork looks so soft, just on the steep stuff he's almost bottomed out.
  • + 1
Yeah I thought that too, looked like he was using most of his travel just with pedal bob! I'm guessing he knows what he's doing though lol, different strokes for different folks and all that.
  • + 1
Just a guess, but I'm thinking maybe he gets too many flats with stiffer suspension. Trying to take the edge off those sharp rocks.
  • + 1
After reading you comment I was noticing that a bit too. It felt great riding it and those upper bits are steeper than they look so that coupled with the need to be heavy on the brakes may be the culprit. Regardless, I now want to check the pressure. Cheers!
  • + 3
 rad song too
  • + 2
 Razor sharp, tire shredding terrain.
  • + 1
Sick as hell! Thanks for the motivation. Love this and Big Col's Alps vids!
  • + 2
Solid Edit Andrew! As always, solid riding from Reg! Love it!
  • + 1
 Thanks dood!
  • + 2
Nice Reg! Looks like a bunch of new lines. Just fn awesome!!
  • + 1
I could watch this over and over again! Well done Mullet and Andrew!!
  • + 1
 Thanks Critch!
  • + 1
I bet the boarding here would be wicked. Probably would have to heli in.
  • + 1
@jakevee Blackrock is actually rarely covered in significant amounts of snow. It's an outlier in the foothills of the Rockies and where the famous Chinook winds first touch down. Most winters the Alpine stays dry or is wind swept! Can be so windy up there!
  • + 1
Awesome work! So pumped to go ride some big mountain now.
  • + 1
Hell yea dude that's what I like to hear!
  • + 1
Damn that was gnarly. My hands were clammy during that beginning section!
  • + 1
thought the gap at 4:09 was gonna be big lmfao
  • + 1
never seen a nomad with a fanny pack
  • + 1
Props!!that was some gnarly riding in a proper gnarly place
  • + 1
Makes me want to ride the alpine more and more!!! Well done !
  • + 1
 Serious talent right here... Cheers.

That was not2bad to put it mildly.
  • + 1
Nice work guys... Not exactly helping with the home sickness though!!!
  • + 1
When you coming for a visit?
  • + 1
 @moolay: looks like September.
  • + 1
Great work REG! Rippin it to pieces!
  • + 1
Thanks @jnorris , would love a tour of Goat Mtn someday!
  • + 1
who the hell built that shack on the summit....need to buy them a beer!
  • + 1
It's a fire lookout from the 1920"s and the 100 yr old approach trail was built for pack horses to service the lookout! Amazing rock work on some of the ledges previous to the first Alpine meadow.
  • + 1
Great video guys. And great riding Reg. Congrats!
  • + 1
 Cheers dude!
  • + 1
Sick! Way to keep it pinned. Burrrr leeee

  • + 1
@andrewyoung: Ive looked at this on Trailforks. I assume its hike a bike up and then ride back down the same way you go up? awesome vid, and van.
  • + 1
You the man bud. That line at 4:29....
  • + 2
Thanks! That was a first for me and so fun I had to do it 2x's.
  • + 1
