Press Release: California Enduro Series presented by Specialized

Registration is set to open on Monday, April 5, 2021, at 8 pm PST for two of the popular California Enduro Series races on this season's schedule.

The China Peak Enduro, presented by China Peak Mountain Resort is scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 26 in Lakeshore, while the Mt. Shasta Enduro, presented by Mt. Shasta Ski Park in McCloud, will bring riders to the south slope of NorCal’s iconic Mt. Shasta for two days of racing Saturday & Sunday, July 10-11 (rescheduled from July 17).

For details about each event, check out the China Peak Enduro race book and the Mt. Shasta Enduro race book. eMTB categories are available at both events. Both races are also EWS Gold Qualifier events, which means a higher level of EWS points toward global ranking. Register for the China Peak Enduro and/or Mt. Shasta Enduro here.

The 2021 season is scheduled to conclude as usual with the Ashland Mountain Challenge, presented by Ashland Mountain Adventures, just over the California/Oregon border in Ashland. The date is yet to be determined for this event. It, too, is an EWS Gold Qualifier event.

All three of these upcoming races went off without a hitch last season, showing 2020 that it couldn’t keep Enduro down. Naturally, CES and race organizers anticipate adhering to special COVID-19 protocol again this season to keep everyone safe and healthy.

Additional events are not out of the question; this of course depends on how things unfold over the coming weeks.

CES Director Steve Gemelos explains, “Event permits are understandably difficult for organizers to obtain due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We’re hopeful that, as the situation improves, we’ll be able to add more races to the schedule.”

He adds, “That said, we sure look forward to seeing our CES race family out there at some of our favorite venues this season ... starting with China Peak and Shasta!”

FOX Queen Stage
The FOX Queen Stage returns for each race for this season. The racer in each category with the fastest time on this particular stage will get bonus points towards their overall ranking.

Stage Wins
Of course, winning a race and winning the overall are the goals, but we all like stage wins as well. For the 2021 season, the series will again be tracking stage wins, offering a bonus prize for the male and female amateur racer with the most stage wins at the end of the season.

eMTB Categories
eMTB categories will be available at China Peak Enduro and Mt. Shasta Enduro. These four categories are: Open eMTB Men, Open eMTB Women, Sport eMTB Men, and Sport eMTB.

Sponsoring the Series
CES is made possible by the generous sponsorship of industry and community businesses.

The series is grateful for the continued support of title sponsor Specialized, official suspension sponsor FOX, Race Face, SANS, WTB, Voler, Cranked Naturals, Michael David Winery, User Testing, Galfer USA, Adventure Sports Journal, Intense, Zodiac Lights and GÜP.

If you’d like to get involved and be part of CES’ exciting 2021 season, send an email to sponsorship@californiaenduro.com.

Anyone who raced China Peak or Mt Shasta last year in beginner or sport care to share their experiences with the courses or how you held up or anything else infrequent racers or riders from other disciplines might find helpful? thanks in advance

I did the eMTB Men Sport class last year and my recommendation is be ready to race some techy sections at speed and bring the hard-shell knee pads for stage-3 & stage-4Smile

Love me some China Peak tracks. Camping, swimming holes, and post-race shenanigans are pretty fun too.

How hard are the CES transitions at Shasta? I did a different (Full Tilt) ‘enduro’ there and every stage was lift-assisted.

I believe it was about half pedaling, half lifts. You're going to spend some time pedaling, but if you have some decent fitness it shouldn't be too much of a bother.

Sooo ready for race season (mentally not physically..stupid Covid)

EWS website says October 2nd for Ashland.

I'd assume that's subject to change or otherwise not firm, if the series putting the race on isn't announcing a firm date.

Cannot wait for these! I raced Ashland last year and it was an absolute blast. Definitely a highlight of 2020.

With the increasing mix of E-MTB and EWS, are there rules against towing for the transitions? Just curious.
