Press Release: Fire in the Mountains charity enduro race

Registration is now open for the Fire in the Mountains charity enduro race on May 15th 2022 at the Smith Creek trails in West Kelowna BC. The West Kelowna Professional Firefighter Association is stoked to welcome riders to the first-ever enduro race in West Kelowna BC with proceeds given back to the BC Burn Fund, West Kelowna Trail Crew Society, Cris Adaptive Adventures and the Okanagan Boys and Girls Club. Registration can be found here: https://ccnbikes.com/#!/events/fire-in-the-mountains-enduro

Racers are in for a 25km racecourse with three stages, and 1200m of descending. The stages will feature everything that Smith Creek has to offer, from high-speed flow to rough rock gardens. Timing will use a flyby system from Zone4.

bigquotesI'm excited to finally bring a sanctioned mtb race to the community. And I'm thrilled to be able to do so and give back through West Kelowna Fire and Rescue's Charitable Society to support some really awesome local charities!Anthony Evans

The goal of this race is to provide the community with a fun weekend of riding, and for seasoned racers, a warm-up race for the rest of the season! Additionally, we will give back 100% of the funds to important local charities. This includes the BC Burn Fund who support burn victims in their recovery, the West Kelowna Trail Crew Society who maintains trails in West Kelowna, Cris Adaptive Adventures who provide accessibility to the outdoors for the people with disabilities, and the Okanagan Boys and Girls Club.

Thanks to Sovereign Cycle, We Are One Composites, Bike Big White and Bryce Brynes Media and Marketing for generously supporting this event. Without them, none of this would be possible.

It's unfortunate that this event conflicts with the Vedder XC and Enduro. I'm sure a lot of people would love to support it. I would certainly make the trip to West Kelowna. There are some amazing trails.

We hoped we could sort something out with them but unfortunately there were somethings we couldn’t change on our end (this year!) and we wanted to give the best trails possible.. we hope to make it earlier next year but also don’t want there to be snow on the top trails that take away from the experience. Also we conflict with the Salty Dog Xc too Frown

I hope that we can organize next year to be late April, and that we don’t cross over on the calendar with anyone else!

@dylandasilva do you have a link to mandatory safety gear and are timing chips provided?

I just went through the registration and it looks like you need to be vaccinated, can you please confirm? Thanks!

No mandatory safety gear aside from a helmet. Timing chips are provided. Proof of vaccination is not required Smile )

@DylanDaSilva: proof of vaccination isn’t required for an event that could potentially put volunteers in an at risk situation (course marshalls dealing with downed or hurt riders)
Not trying to start a silly debate here, but proof of vaccination seems like a good idea

Looks like the registration doesn't work yet! But excited to be part of it, it's a great initiative.

@DylanDaSilva: I keep getting kicked out trying to register, assuming there’s just a bunch of traffic.

Need volunteers?
  • 2 0
@onawalk: strange. Trying to solve the issue right now.

Volunteers may be needed but most of the fire department will be doing so.

@onawalk: any volunteers can email 4457bikerace@gmail.com

And we will get a list and get the people utilized the best we can!

Any chance entries are transferable? Pretty keen to pull the trigger, but not 100% sure I won’t be out of the country at that time.

I believe there is a $10 option on CNN bikes that has nothing to do with our end that gives you an option of complete registration refund. If you email 4457bikerace@gmail.com we can look into the logistics of transfers (we’re new at hosting races!)
