Film & Words: Ohad Nir

Every year, the Israeli cycling scene grows stronger. More riders are beginning to ride in professional cycling circles and specialize in their fields. New and old bicycle brands are beginning to appear on the trails. We had the honor this year to host part of the Giro d'Italia in Israel, and we see how Noga Korem is successful in the Enduro World Series.

I recently received the opportunity from Giant Israel to shoot a special project for them and the first part is focused on some young riders here. This video presents 15-year-olds with great talent that are about to break out in the next few years.

Hating on Israelites because of their politicians is like hating on Americans because of Trump. Meet the people personally and build relationships before judging. I (German) lived for 7 years in Alabama to work there. If I would have believed everything that the average German says about Americans I wouldn’t have moved there. I have had some of my best friends and relationships in my time abroad.

Btw. Intelligence, racism and all the other stereotypes don’t have anything to do with citizenship. It’s like saying all Germans are Nazis. Yes there are some, but come over here meet people and you will realize that there are some great characters here. Just like in the US. And Israel. And the rest of the world.
Now keep your eyes and ears closed and continue bashing if that satisfies you.

Why would anybody say anything like 'All Germans are Nazis'? They would be refering to a point in history that involved people that are almost all dead now.

You do raise an interesting point though - At what stage does a citizen become complicit with the actions of the state that he/she lives in?

@justanotherusername: I reckon you're overthinking this. I'm no fan of Israel (in fact, I think it's disgusting what they're doing to the Palestinians) however I don't think a bunch of kids riding bikes hold much sway in the complex situation that is the middle east, so you really can't put this on them.
At 15, were you even vaguely aware of what your government was up to? Much less care? I doubt it... and why should you?! You'd have been a kid, who deserved to be left alone to go and build kickers out of dirt and set fire to shit.

@speedfreek: You have no clue what you're talking about. Stick to bikes.

@speedfreek: pressed the wrong prop soz, I like what you're saying.

@DirtJumper02: Yeah.. what was I thinking. Let's blame children for the actions of their government.
  • 3 0
@mych79: It's cool. I'll give you positive props to make up for it.
  • 3 0
@speedfreek: who is 'blaming the kids', and if throwing blame what would it be for? The original post was about hating people from a country because of their governments actions, nobody mentioned blaming children for it.

I'm an American and I have preconceived notions about Alabama that probably aren't true

People are people. It’s a hit or miss.

@speedfreek: ...your comment about why you’re not a fan of Israel
  • 3 0
@jewpowered: I can tell you, I’ve seen it first hand: not everyone is married to their siblings or cousins Razz
  • 2 1
@DirtJumper02: Maybe you have no clue and you should stick to bikes too
  • 6 2
@firebird79: I am pro Israel and pro bikes. I was not a fan of speedfreek stating his opinion that it's "disgusting what they're doing to the" Arabs. This is Pinkbike and we should stick to keeping our comments about bikes without backhanded comments about our political views, especially if they are negative. Cool?

OK, so here we have a team of young passionate, talented riders, trying their best to showcase their skills and probably quite excited that their video is posted on Pinkbike's front page. Imagine their disappointment when they check the comments section only to find a bunch of people arguing about politics... Is this really necessary or constructive?
  • 8 2
Did this make the front page because it's in Israel? Otherwise, I don't get it...

Great that kids are riding bikes, but there are some incredible edits out there that get only a few views, while this is on the front page with some average riding and ordinary trails....
  • 6 0
Riding in Israel is definitely on my bucket list. Great video and love the style coming out of those young riders!
  • 7 0
At 15 I didn't know what moutainbiking is.
  • 11 8
Shame on your tiny minds 'muricans! What have those Israeli kids done to deserve the hating for something they haven't done? The way I see it riding probably gives them ambition plus freedom away from all the political disputes they face on a daily basis...

"Yeah sorry, but screw Israel" More like screw Trump!
  • 7 4
Palestine, never heard of her. But in all seriousness, what if I refereed to the united states as the british colonies, to most of eastern europe as the USSR and most of southeastern Europe as the Ottoman empire. Tired poor arguments because people side with Palestine and frankly I cant understand why you would bring it here.

Give me a fucking break!! A cool video showing some kids absolutley shredding, and some dumb fuck asshole has to make a rich kids comment. Watch out , some of those kids will be SF in a few years. Billy Bad Ass Special Forces MTB Shred Team.

@justanotherusername: Thanks for articulating your point past a "screw israel" comment, and although Israel isn't the first nor the only country acting in this manner it is a bit disturbing how the country came to be formed, and the antics they've used up to this current moment to spread their borders.

It's tough to be pc about something like this. Especially because America is very hypocritical when it comes to our own land grabs via military dominance, Coup d'état, state sponsored terrorism, and other forms of unethical behavior when it comes to geopolitics.

@eugen-fried: This video doesn't deserve to be bashed, but you can't be surprised when someone isn't excited about the unacknowledged war zone that is happening there and they comment on it.
  • 7 5
I have nothing against British people, Americans and Canadians and people from other countries. but just refresh your memory about how many nations your countries took over along the history, before you criticize Israel.
  • 7 9
True. But that's history, ie. in the past. Happened already. Finished. So does that make it okay for Israel to do it now? Shouldn't you learn from the atrocities committed then?
  • 8 4
@harrybel: isn't the creation of Israel (194Cool in the past? Happened Already. Finished? Why do the surrounding countries continue to attack and prevoke Israel into retaliation if it's all in the past?
  • 8 5
@jubs17: well said! And btw, you might don't believe me but IDF don't attack or kill innocents but only a real terrorists who initiate attacks such as shooting rockets, throwing a Molotov cocktails, stabing, shooting or running over an Israeli residents by a vehicles. the global media doesn't show you the full picture. Also in Paris and London Muslims don't make troubles every day like the media might make it look like. And of course the global media usually stands with Palestine because they live in much harder reality. Palestinians live under a terrorist leadership (Hamas) and they don't enjoy of democracy whereas Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East.
  • 2 2
@jubs17: meh, that's if your under the assumption that they're not expanding their borders on a routinely basis when someone throws a Molotov cocktail and then their neighborhood gets bombed, bulldozed, and reclaimed as Israel territory.
  • 3 0
@lottastoke: Did you read what @Eden4 said? That's how it's always been - that's how America came about. I am *assuming* that Israel does this. They did it successfully before when 6 surrounding nations ganged up on Israel and lost. Naturally Israel claimed the land of their failed attackers and then they were kind enough to give it all back - which hardly ever happens! Guaranteed none of Israel's neighbours would ever do that. Its time Israel stopped holding back and just kept every bit of land they get from failed provocations.
