Video: Remy Metailler Shreds the Streets of Grasse, France

Feb 10, 2022
by Rémy Métailler
After two years without riding stairs, it was time for a session in the city of Grasse in the South of France. Since 2014, an Urban Downhill event is organized there and features some super cool stair sections. I missed the event this year but made it back to ride the track and some other spots around.

Such a different kind of riding from usually but just as fun.

Me: Well that's completely unsafe, there's no way he can brake safely if there's someone round that corner.
Remy: Rides it four times more quickly than I was imagining, there *is* someone round the corner, stops before they even noticed he was there and engages them in charming conversation.

I was anxious watching most of that.

Looks like he also has a second person there as a spotter and to film.

@tacklingdummy: That's what I noticed. I have huge respect for Remy because of his superb risk management methodology.

Looks like he hit hit his steps goal that day.

Looking down the steerer at 2:28 was a bit strange.

It’s said if you see the one up tool in his steerer, you win one.

My school blocked the vid because it contains the keyword LUBE, as in LUBRICANT!

Remy provokes the ire of landscapers in this town. He runs over the plants not once, but twice to practice the sick stair ride.

Also - dude on the yellow bike at 8:00 is out practicing the same lines, just doesn't feel the need to use all the protective equipment.

Finally, why did the least frightening feature (to me) get Remy to utter "This is so sketchy" at 9:33? He went through a tunnel. Remy, are you afraid of the dark or did I miss the sketchy part?

How about at 5:15 Remy is bombing down the staircase and a guy on the bottom step barely looks up from his phone. LOL

It's amazing the total NON-reaction of these pedestrians. In NYC that would cause a shit storm of yelling and the cops wouldn't be far behind.

 Nice riding.

I only don't know who put this stupid line on the homepage of pinkbike:
"To practice for the Red Bull Monserrate Cerro Abajo, Remy hit the streets of his home city."

That race is already over.....

Um I wonder if it is possible he recorded this before and just released it now.

@fabwizard: Could be, or it could be they put that sentence there to gain more attention.
Because Remy wasn't even a participant of the race.

@malamadre: Well it clearly says this on the mainpage on pinkbike:
"To practice for the Red Bull Monserrate Cerro Abajo, Remy hit the streets of his home city."

 What's French for "Doomers"?

As a general rule, if you want to see as close as you can to raw nature, go to North America. If you want to visit fantastic cities, go to Europe.

Yeah NYC is really where it's at for some proper raw nature.
