Last weekend the Colombian National Downhill Championship for 2015 was held in the city of Pasto in southern part of the country. Around one-hundred riders across different categories were registered to compete. The track had a length of 2.2km, and riders were racing in very cold conditions, with strong winds throughout the day.
With the absence of Marcelo Gutierrez because of his World Cup commitments in Europe, the competition was high, especially between Marcelo's brother Rafael Gutierrez, and Jhony Betancourth and Sebastian Posada.
In the Elite Men the result was a big surprise. Due to technical problems and personal errors, the predicted top rider were unable to make the podium. The eventual winners were the riders who were always behind them in the various competitions this year.
The gold medal went to Jaime David Sánchez, silver medal to David Bohorquez, and bronze medal to John Jefferson Sánchez. It was a great reward for their perseverance and dedication throughout the season and in the race, of course, without discrediting a great job of the other riders that we mentioned who unfortunately did not have a good day.
In the Junior Men's category there were no surprises. The 2015 Pan American champion Diego Alejandro Hincapié is now the Colombian National Champion for 2015. Diego was followed by two very strong riders; Steven Ceballos in second, and Juan Camilo Navia in third.
