Dude I'd be World champ in that category

2 1/2 hour downhill race. What a bag of suck!
  • 26 0
There isn't even that big a drop off in speed until the over 65 category. The over 60s times are actually still really respectable.

Thats so cool to think those of use in our 30s still have another 20+ of having no excuses for going slow! Let's go!

I raced the masters Andorra when I was in the 1st year you could (age 29, 30 by end of year), I had thought that my age would give me an advantage and was swiftly brought back to reality when I got absolutely smoked by the 55-59 category, and I really mean smoked.
  • 2 1
@GrandMasterOrge: decades of experience and they can afford 10k bikes, the older categories are fast!
  • 4 0
@AyJayDoubleyou: Haha, the ole' they can afford a better bike excuse. They would be fast even on the exact same bike.
  • 2 0
@AyJayDoubleyou: I don't think it was related to what bike they were riding, just legit fast riders.

Giovanna Bonazzi, third best time althoug being one of the four oldest! Stil a star!!!

 What a legend!!
  • 2 1
Seem like age doesn't slow her down
  • 6 0
She made a celebratory gelato for the champs. She's awesome.
  • 17 2
Don’t see Minaar’s name on there.
  • 4 1
 *Minnaar
  • 24 0
@Muckal: don't see that one either
  • 11 0
@hamncheez: I heard one of them was busy showing the younger generation how it's done.
  • 5 0
Masters World Champs is an amateur-only event. That isn't sarcasm, it's the rules, so you won't see Minnaar there any time soon.
I think you aren't allowed to have raced as a pro for a full year.
In fact I think that's why Nigel Page got his title stripped a few years ago (although I'm not 100% on that!)

@IllestT: very fine line amateur vs pro in mtbiking...
  • 2 0
 @PauRexs:

You have to have no uci points from the current/previous season
  • 1 0
@IllestT: Oh... Will Longden gets away with it then, I guess!
  • 7 0
Well done to the Brits racing.
Big Al, you legend. Taking home gold. The guys never seems to slow down.

Special thanks to George Thompson (making up the numbers podcast) for keeping us vets who didn't make it out updated on Instagram of all the fun you boys were having out there. Looked like some holiday.
  • 8 0
Will "the thrill" Longden, still fast.
  • 3 0
He smoked us vets at national Champs and was encouraged to do world masters there. Looks like the boys had an awesome time and big Al also took home gold which is awesome. Listy managing a 2nd too which is so good.
  • 3 0
@betsie: yeah it was flippin mint! Will quali'd 4th, so it was absolutely mega to see him bring the win home. 4 golds for us brits, way to go! I was more stoked for the boys than myself! Couple of the other Brit lasses got bronze medals too which was cool, although really sad for Brittany Littlewood as she was on for the win in her cat but got taken out by the massive dust piles in the final.

At my age the only thing I’m a master at is drinking all day
  • 2 0
You are in the danger zone lana
  • 3 0
At my age the only thing I’m a master at is pissing al day……that’s the next stage SterlingArcher Smile
  • 2 0
@Philt32: the danger zone will soon turn into the urine zone

 Giovanna Bonazzi always the best!

Amazing result, faster than most of the younger women.
  • 1 0
 Bravissimo Gio!!!!!!

@DoubleCrownAddict: yeah first time I've met her, and she is such a professional, and a lovely lady. Total inspiration to us folk in our early 40s - if I can set a time like hers when I'm her age, I'll be quite happy (I set the FTD in the women's field)!
  • 1 0
@gravitysgirl: She's a legend, been around forever! Great to see her still killing it. Nice with to you also.
  • 11 8
Pink bike, you suck and have clearly no care or passion for those that do in this sport!! Absolute shite reporting as usual, from a group that clearly have never raced and no respect for any masters. Cant wait to hear an in depth report on crap bit of kit you you've been sent.
  • 4 1
At least they posted results this time. They didn’t even do that at the last one in 2019.
  • 9 1
Chill out James, Pinkbike can't be everywhere and at least your seeing the results. From the sounds of it you know a website that is doing a better job and will be using them from now on.
  • 5 4
@kona83coxy: I'm chill cheers. I just don't understand why there is a blanket ban on support or coverage for anyone over 35. I have stated it before to them about the EWS, national championships etc. I think it is narrow minded and insulting to those that crack on.

@james-hughes-free-agent: You have an axe and you're not afraid to grind it.

Hopefully XC results be up later?
I know of one female rider who did BOTH DH and XC races, top 5 in DH and Top 10 in XC not bad IMO!

Anyone else do both DH & XC?
  • 8 1
 A real mountain biker.
  • 2 0
Maybe this granny gave birth to enduro
  • 2 0
Talk about lazy reporting. How about checking out a few of the top finisher's instagrams for some photos and insights from the riders themselves.. that wouldn't have been too difficult would it? Hell, you could even have sent those riders some messages for extra comments if you really wanted. Ah but no, you've never heard of anyone at this race, so it can't be important can it, of course not. Disappointing. Most of the people spending the money in MTB are these age groups, effectively they pay your wages Pinkbike "reporters".

1st Place Olivier Nicole is related to Myriam in some way - older bro? Saw them together on her IG story

Anyone got a link so we can check the course and some of the action. Coming up dry om youtube etc. Well done to all the riders u are all inspirational to us. At age 48 I still think im faster than most groms, at least going downhill.

They raced on Black Jack at Pra Loup, there's some videos out there I'm sure.
  • 1 0
Ben Deakin was there chatting to his camera so I think he'll do a vlog, and I'm gonna see tomorrow if I've got enough material to edit one too.
  • 1 0
Please pinkbike - an interview with Georges Bigoni and Georvanna Bonazzi. How do they train? How do they avoid injury? How often do they ride? Who with? When did Georges start riding DH (his fifties?). So many questions……
  • 3 0
How about Tinker Juarez winning the Masters World Championships DH in Pra Loup?
  • 2 0
He won the XCO, not the DH... But yes, Tinker is still fast!
  • 5 0
Tinker is still a beast! Dude races ultra endurance still :o Can't even begin to imagine what 24Hrs on the bike must feels like. I did 3Hrs @ a local trail earlier today and my legs are still solid & burning LoL.

I still find it hard to believe that 1 of the people who inspired me to get on a MTB ~30yrs ago is still competing! Between Tinker & Hans, I have no excuses to not ride.
  • 2 0
@billreilly: I know that, coño. I'm just saying why are we not seeing that all over Pinkbike or at least the freaking results posted? What's that about? Celebrate the legend.
  • 4 0
Sasa Merljak still killing it! Well done brother!
  • 1 0
I was wondering if there will be a reply from New Jersey about his results, seems like he is not forgotten in his old home! He is still fast as always, raced that on a borrowed bike as he hasnt owned DH bike for years now!
  • 2 0
Nice result and quick turnaround for Petr Hanak, who smoked the 40+ class (again) at an Enduro here in Colorado last weekend.
