While Alba Wunderlin already won the qualifying on Saturday, Stefan Peter had qualified as 15th and finished ahead of Armin Beeli (who broke his chain just before the finish line) and Daniel Solèr. The winner of the qualifying, Claudio Loureiro from Portugal had no luck and could not repeat his performance from the previous day. Second in the women's category was Birgit Braumann from Austria ahead of Kirstien Nelen from Germany.
After the mainly rainy and muddy qualifying, the conditions for today's race were nearly perfect. Only the strong wind at the very top forced the riders to dress warm. Wrong line choices in the rocky upper section were punished with flat tires. Official mechanics were helping along the course with floor pumps and spare parts. Other riders decided to keep running on their rims like Aaron Gwin.
15 minutes before the start the racers have joined their bikes.
The Giant Swiss SR-Suntour Team (Marco Arnold, Mirco Widmer and Mike Schuler) and the Claudio Loureiro (Team Transition/Sram) are starting in the first row.
Sandro Schmid (622) eventually finished as 51st.
Nickl Florian (787) finished as 484th.
