This is the sole reason the Pinkbike community is interested in XC. Nino crushing. Nino starting with a convoluted, contrived handicap. Nino coming from behind and passing the masses like Secretariat and breaking them. He is the Samurai and in our heart of hearts he wins by going faster downhill and railing corners. We can continue to believe this because we'll never watch the actual race.

He was a national DH champ too iirc. Great racer. Imo going to be the XC goat.
  • 90 3
Or maybe because, ya know, XC is still mountain biking...
  • 7 1
 @wpplayer18: He's the only racer I know.....
  • 1 1
@atrokz: I think was hos bro national DH champ not him.
  • 3 0
 @PauRexs:
thats right. his brother mario was junior swiss nationalchamp. around 2001 i guess
  • 2 0
@PauRexs: yea Im not sure where I got that from snd I think you are right. But apparently he did race DH: mbaction.com/amp/meet-riders-rides-nino-schurter
  • 1 0
@21Racing: thanks for clearing that up
  • 8 0
@atrokz: cool ! but honestly i dont care if he raced Dh or not , he is a monster going up and rips going down faster than many of us behind the keyboard here.
  • 2 1
@Lagr1980: To me it helps explain why hes so good descending. Perhaps a better training program for jrs is mixing it up Wink
  • 4 0
@atrokz: yes. Im always giving advice to parents like myself, if you want your kid to excel in any bike disciple, couple years bmx, when they are really young 4-7 yo..
  • 4 0
@Lagr1980: You mean everyone. Nobody on here would get close to him on the same bike.
  • 4 3
It's far from the only reason plus you don't speak for the entire Pinkbike community. Seriously, get real.
  • 2 0
@COnovicerider: Marc Beaumont won a Val Di Sole World Cup DH. He got rinsed trying to beat Nino's in race descent times on an XC bike.

You have no clue how pinned he and a few others ride those minimal bikes/tires. The average beer league race winner on here would shit their pants if you put them on Nino's bike.
  • 1 0
@jclnv: to be fair, Nino is used to that bike, and Marc was well out of top contention at the WC around then. He won at VDS due to weather and starting times, iirc. Not taking away from either, they both rock, but there are caveats to that point.

@rockyflowtbay: +1. I couldn't name any of the others but I know he's testing new drive trains, rides for Scott/Sram and is a bad ass.

Well done Jolanda. After the watching the course preview with Ric I could only imagine her giggling all the way during the race.
  • 3 1
She is by far the best female bike racer in any discipline I've seen.
  • 2 0
In one of the laps the camera was on her all the way down on a descend and she was bloody fast. Amazing bike handling skills, fantastic talent...
  • 1 0
@bosnianrider: Better descender than half the men's field.
  • 21 0
I come from the future, Schurter will win.
  • 24 1
I come from the bathroom. It looked like that before I went in there. With all that garbage strewn about and the shower curtain torn down.

Good racing today. Impressive win by Jolanda. The course was treacherous for the women early on. Men's race was tight. Flueckiger's effort was commendable. Even with a lap 3 sprint to get to the pits for a rear wheel change before it went fully flat, he managed to come back and hang on to 6th.
  • 1 0
Yeah a real shame he flatted.
  • 5 0
Red Bull has really stepped up their game with the coverage, quality stuff!
  • 5 0
What a day for switzerland! And now win the hockey championship aswell!
  • 8 2
 Which Sweden will win #sorrynotsorry
  • 2 1
 @leopruth: the best!
Guess many in the new world are confused.
But who knows perhaps this is some kind of educational TV now;-)
  • 1 2
It's still the juniors compared to the Stanley Cup. Its ok to be proud, but its a far cry from the top level. This needs to be changed somehow, like having it in September for example.

Schurters first win with a dropper post????
  • 3 0
 Believe so, yes
  • 1 0
@grgsmith: Nice. Maybe we'll see a few more start popping up in these races. It blows me away that they can be so fast IF there are technical DH sections with their seat so high. I keep telling my friends that don't have droppers that they need them. I really can't believe some people have made it so far into mountain biking without having one.
  • 5 3
Are those times right? The fastest are under 23 men? Or are the number of laps different? I mean, cause that would be some fast U23 women right there
  • 4 0
 U23s do less laps
  • 5 4
@Arobb: Thanks man! Though so. However, who would be dumb enough to donwvote me, when Im just asking a question , incredible
  • 1 0
U23 also started in the dry. Sunday was v muddy and slippery.
  • 5 1
Where are the Shimano 12 speed pictures?
  • 2 0
Bmc should be making big attempts at paying their own countries riders some big money....they would be dominating right now!!
  • 1 0
Those Frenchies will be winning soon enough.
  • 4 0
 c'mon Yana!!!
  • 4 0
What a comeback after a broken hip. And she seems to step up her descending game, way to go.
  • 2 0
And he didn't even get his usual spot in the lineup. What kind of mutant is he
  • 11 2
Having the same (outrageously fast) pace than other for 4 laps after overtaking everyone at the start, and then, suddenly, putting an attack in the climb and setting a 15 sec gap just in the blink of an eye.
If that guy isn't loaded with the same shit Simon Yates takes, well....
  • 3 2
Not hating, but it looks like Fontana spent his off season at a pizza joint...
  • 2 0
Still in the top 15 though...
  • 2 1
Lol, I also noticed, he wasn't lean at all, he had a beer belly, amazing he ended 15th.
  • 2 0
First American in XCO Mens in 69th place, behind 16 racers from SUI.
  • 1 1
The best American was racing in an American XC race - Howard Grotts absolutely crushed the Epic Rides Grand Junction Off-Road this weekend. Much more interesting races since they're actually on mountain biking trails.

 Schurter 1:28:07

FTW!
  • 1 0
 Everybody’s racing and Schurter wins.
  • 1 0
What happened to Gaze? I see the DNF...anyone know why?
  • 1 0
He retired, he felt sick according to his team it was because of a stomach bug.
  • 5 0
@omartrs: I wonder if his migraines came back... or perhaps commonwealth games karma hitting back
  • 3 1
@aer0: He was okay in the flat short track... That guy is too heavy to hang with those guys on sustained climbs. He'll do better next week but he'll struggle to beat those guys on hard courses.
  • 1 0
@jclnv: He seemed to fade from laps 2-3 then had a tyre problem in 4 from the look of thing he was shattered at that point.
  • 8 0
@aer0: Yeah he tried to hang and popped!

I'm not a fan of the guy to be honest. Find him a bit of an arrogant twat. Much prefer Cooper of the two Kiwi's.
  • 3 0
@jclnv: Ditto hence my karma comment Smile
  • 2 2
@jclnv: his first WC win was a fluke...
  • 4 0
@mattsavage: Two time U23 World Champ too. He's obviously bloody good but think about his Stellenbosch (sp) win. The climbs were relatively punchy, he'd just come off his summer training wise, and he just won in a sprint from a guy who pulled his foot off the pedal.

I just think he's got too much mass. Bit like Kulharvy.

 'murica! Oh wait...

 No more baggies for Fumic
