It's a bit unfair that the 1.5s limit only applies to the first heat. If Tuhoto-Ariki ripped his derailleur off in the first heat and Brook smashed the dirt in the second then Tuhoto-Ariki would've won. He was smashing it big time.
@samfr1000: But maybe it’s time to re-visit the rule book? Pretty tricky when one side of the track has a max differential of 1.5 Seconds, wether you make it through all the flags or not but you switch to the other side for the second lap and you can be completely disqualified for the same thing. Feel that it should be the either the same max differential for both heats or just a combined time for both tracks to make sure it’s fair for each rider as there’s usually a faster/slower, harder/easier track and that was clearly visible in this course with the flat turns at the bottom.
@samfr1000: I suppose ideally in a race the fastest or most tactical racer should win? Accidents and mechanicals happen, and that’s part of racing. My point is that there are different rules in the second round that can lead to unintended consequences. How about, the max time difference applies in both heats and if times are level because of the limit then it’s a count back to actual time? Then you still get exciting racing where anyone can win the race from the second heat, but the same rules apply to both heats.
1. Not unfair at ll. That's the way the game is played.
2. On the flipside, I sometimes wonder why 4th place is listed above? I understand that it tells us who lost the consolation round to determine 3rd place, but since it is not a podium spot in DS maybe it should be in the overall bracket results.
Let’s be serious; Tuhoto had the absolute best run in the downhill, and smashed Brook in round 1 and was absolutely smashing him until his mechanical in 2.
In my book he is absolutely the winner of both these events. Go Pene!
