That guys comment on the bike check post saying “RIP to Finn’s stumpy” aged like milk
  • 18 1
so much for the trend towards beefier fork stanchions
  • 10 1
Came here to look for this comment.
  • 3 0
or the guy who was choked at Kona for not selling the longer CS and said the bike dont turn (and I own a 153). Looks to me Mr. Verner can make it turn!!

Odds Finn destroys this series are high
  • 2 0
Was thinking the same, could probably race DH and enduro full schedule.
  • 39 1
Why are people surprised at Finn on a Stumpy?
Jared Graves raced two years of EWS on a Stumpjumper...
  • 11 0
exactly. less of a plough bike, more snappy and maneuverable
  • 5 1
only marketing Now that we have Fox 38 and RS ZEB you can trash all the other forks that have been the best just until now.
  • 2 0
Curious if it's the slacked out stumpy frame or the normal one?
  • 8 0
 @SonofBovril: normal one

flag Braench (Jul 29, 2020 at 3:55) (Below Threshold)
@squarewheel: well this differs alot with various tracks. If this for example is more tight and "slow" most riders go on smaller setups or forks.
But if its a almost DH Type Enduro the 38 and Zeb will definitely help you.
I ride the 38 and its been treatin me very well compared to a 36 on my 27,5 and 29 enduros.
  • 5 0
@Braench: Nothing against new things. I just want to point out that because there is something new the old and good predecessor will still perform and is not for the landfill.
  • 2 0
I was shock so many people criticized his choice of a bike, I was a little surprised as well. Then i tried to recall and that is the trail bike he uses most often for what i have seen on trail videos, i dont think i seen Finn on and enduro. You also ride what you feel comfortable in, and he as a world of talent. Is the Indian not the arrow that hits the bulls eye.
  • 2 0
Yeah but Graves rarely troubled the podium on the Spesh
  • 1 0
@IllestT: which was mostly due to flats or other mechanicals
you could argue he would've flatted less on a frame with more travel but that was before tire inserts became a big thing i think.
and we're talking about jared rides-a-trail-bike-at-dh-worlds graves...
  • 30 0
Wow Finn! Barely knew the rules of an enduro race a day ago, yet here he is in 1st.
  • 8 0
On a Stumpy, no less! Look forward to the full recap :-)
  • 6 0
@jammf: what does this say about The efficacy enduro bikes?

Probably nothing for most of us. He doesn’t need the forgiveness of that extra travel I’m guessing.
  • 14 0
@pcledrew: Yeah, seeing Finn come in on a trail bike and wreck house has gotta be demoralizing to the EWS pros.
  • 5 1
@roma258: Possibly, but I wonder how many of them would do just as well, if not better, using less travel than their team expects them to use.
  • 3 1
I think this shows that it is the rider not the bike. Finn could probably have won this on any decent trail bike.
  • 2 1
@jammf: he could ride a Huffy and still win
  • 1 0
@pcledrew: Exactly! I had a friend on an Enduro team and he wanted the Intense Spider 29, but the team forced him into a Tracer because it was their "enduro bike" at the time - he ended up doing terribly until he broke the frame and had to race on his backup, which was an older shorter travel Kona.
  • 1 0
@roma258: maybe, maybe not. Silverstar is pretty flat and a lot of it is quite smooth. Arguably benefit more there from pedaling efficiency than you would stability or suspension performance. Check out Jesse's videos here and you'll see what I mean:

Specialized: "Hey Finn can you race this Stumpy for a PR stunt?"

Finn: "Ok."

later...

Specialized: "Oh shoot! Did you win? We were thinking more like 15th."

We never looked at the new Enduro the same Frown

I was looking forward to watching this and having some excitement - doing the races, posting the results and not showing us anything that went on is not exciting. When do we get to watch?
  • 3 0
Yeah, considering Pinkbike is basically running the media side of this, might as well wait a few hours and put together a highlight show, eh? Also, wasn't there talk of live broadcast? I mean, I get it, this is all done on the fly last minute...but still, the EWS highlight show format is well established.
  • 2 0
@roma258: Enduro and AIR DH are not boradcasted live the crankworx page says...
there'll be recap sometime though
  • 21 3
That generation stumpy is one of the best bike ever made. That guy can ride a bike, so it’s not surprising!
  • 3 2
 Who downvoted you? You're right...
  • 2 0
How so? Honest question, I think they're great looking bikes, but the reviews were pretty middling and there are so many variations that you just kind of get lost in the options.
  • 4 0
@roma258: it is one of the lightest 140 frame out there. There are options as you said, which is why you can make it yours by all these little tweaks. It is very stiff and pedal efficient. The geo is not extreme, which makes it more adaptable to more people, from beginner ish to pro. From my point of view I think that s why I claim it that way. It is so versatile. The design came out in April 2018, so there are already more more bikes, and we re getting used to more extrem geo, but at least in 2018, it was really what they say as the ultimate trail bike.
  • 4 1
@alexptdmg: yeah, these results back that up (I know, I know it's the rider). I recently went with full extreme geo bike (Sentinel) and maybe I'm still in the learning curve, but I'm having second thoughts. A modern trail bike with good, but more moderate geo might have been a better choice I'm thinking.
  • 4 0
@roma258: reviews were all based on comparing it to an 'ENDURO' bike...its a trail bike. Light weight and snappy. Bike is amazing, no need for the EVO the regular rides amazing and very light
  • 1 0
@alexptdmg: isn't the pedal efficiency pretty low? I seem to remember the anti-squat being around 80% or so but I guess that's why it would descend so well.
  • 3 1
@alexptdmg: the geo on that Stumpy is almost identical to the original YT Jeffsy that came out in 2016.
  • 15 0
Interesting to see Remi and Jesse back in 5th/6th. I'm not surprised Finn got the win but I am surprised by some of the other riders that went quicker. Can't wait to see the recap.
  • 4 0
Is what makes a more open field of more local/national semi pros riders... everything gets more leveraged cause everyone is more used to his kind of trails and the race is not so long... at EWS everything is more demanding and there rider experience, adaptation and endurance make the difference. The same you can see on French national races...
  • 1 0
@PauRexs: The only rider ahead of them that is local to silver star is Bas.
  • 1 0
@rider605056: still all gold trails all over here BC..
  • 12 1
Whatever you say about specialized, they make great bikes!

flag Balgaroth (Jul 29, 2020 at 0:41) (Below Threshold)
Sure it's not the fact that Finn is an incredibly talented DH rider facing only average joes that is the reason why he won, must be the bike no doubt !
  • 23 1
@Balgaroth: Jesse Melamed, Remi Gauvin, Mark Wallace and Henry Fitzgerald and a few of the other riders aren't exactly average joes.
  • 8 0
@90police: Don't forget Kasper Woolley who a is a freaking beast. Illes beat probably 3 top 20 EWS riders.

flag Balgaroth (Jul 29, 2020 at 6:54) (Below Threshold)
@90police: Ok let me rephrase: average enduro riders vs top DH rider. We could even go to say that letting a DH rider at his prime (not about or retiring) is not fair competition for the Enduro scene but I wouldn't dare saying such thing, imagine, I could get downvoted for telling the truth and all ... lol
  • 7 1
@Balgaroth: The “average” enduro riders you are talking about are some of the best in the world, Mark Wallace is Canadian National DH champ, Finn is trained to run 4 minutes at race pace those other “average” guys train for 20-40 minutes of race pace through the course of a day. I give Finn credit for holding it together for 5 stages since I don’t think he’s gone 5 WC’s in a row without crashing out. He’s fast but he can be a bit wild sometimes. Maybe this will help him find the consistency to match his speed when they get back to the WC circuit.
  • 6 3
@Balgaroth: Mark Wallace finished 8th in the WC overall last year...Remi finished 4th in the EWS overall and Jesse still held down 12. Man, such average results amiright?

Finn had 3 results in the top 20 last year, 4 results in the 50's, and one 34. I still regard him as exceptional but I wouldn't qualify him as a top DH rider...yet.
  • 3 2
@juicebanger: so even worse basically right ? Not even top DH rider showing to top enduro riders how it's done, jesus that's bad.
  • 11 0
I thought this was a "made for TV" event? Where's the TV?
  • 1 0
I think they weren't able to do the enduro live, the dh and the dual slalom will both be live though so you can watch those...
  • 10 0
So after all Brett Rheeder did not compete. What a pity...
  • 1 0
 he's doing the dh though
  • 5 0
@Bikerdude137: where do you find such info?

Can't win then.. I though everyone needs to participate every event?
  • 11 0
The two things I was excited to see; live enduro race coverage and commentary, Brett Rheeder racing against pro racers. Two things I got instead,
1) pinkbike posted results without using Scribed but they are so pixelated you know they took the picture with an IPhone 3 they found in a drawer somewhere,
2) (This page left intentionally blank)
  • 5 0
Rheeder shouldn't be allowed to pick and choose events. This series should be all or nothing IMO.
  • 1 0
@danimaniac: i'm not sure why he didn't do the enduro but he posted on his story that he's doing dual slalom and i'm pretty sure he's doing the dh as well since he said he was going to do racing, i think he didn't do the enduro because he was filming for the project he posted on title's instagram? Anyways he'll (hopefully) be doing at least most of the races now...
  • 12 7
Why is there a DH picture on enduro results? Didn’t have a picture of Casey from today’s race?
  • 12 1
We'll update once we get photos from the event Smile
  • 46 6
@HurricaneCycles You must be fun at parties...
  • 1 0
 Get 'em!
  • 2 0
@sarahmoore: doing our best! heheh 3
  • 7 1
I thought this was supposed to be streamed live? I saw nothing all day Frown
  • 1 0
 Same. What gives @pinkbike?
  • 2 0
it says on their webpage that Enduro and Air DH are not going to be broadcasted. I'm hoping for a recap, (that should appear on youtube acc. to the crankworx-infos -page)

@danimaniac: 1:15am and we are working on it. =)
  • 1 0
@ClintTrahan: Hope you got energy drink sponsors Big Grin
  • 1 0
@danimaniac: Dang, was really hoping they could figure out a way to make enduro broadcast friendly Frown
  • 1 0
 @roma258: yayaya.. me too
  • 1 1
@ClintTrahan: that doesn't mean streamed live?
  • 7 0
 Way to go Kasper!
  • 6 0
 Pedal F. Iles! Wait...
  • 3 0
I think the younger riders went first, hence why Finn rode so fast. Gagitty
  • 5 1
Not surprised to see a Downhiller at the top, they’ve got some history ‘cough cough’ Sam Hill
  • 2 0
Finn takes top spot - ok, seems reasonable.
Bas Van Steenbergen ahead of Jesse Melamed - what?
Can't wait for the rest of the races (and the TV events). This series is going to be a treat.
  • 4 0
Classic it's not the bike it's the rider scenario.
  • 4 0
So much for Vaea's super secret rocky mountain from the bike check video
  • 1 0
Why do they only show videos of flow/gnar and downtown? Walk the line was part of it too and i still don't know what the other stages were...
  • 3 0
 What happened to Rheeder?
  • 2 0
was it a true enduro tho?
  • 3 0
Might be more like 3 downhill tracks with 2 pedals and a lift....we’ll see
  • 2 0
Did Jesse race? Kasper; smashing it!
  • 2 0
Did Jesse crash or just a "bad day"? I´d expected him to win for sure.
  • 2 1
Hmm, maybe it's the new bike, they've been running Slayers, and now they are back on Instincts.
  • 3 1
 @mlangestrom: the new Instinct, presumably.
  • 2 0
@mlangestrom: I think that the opposite would make more sense; since they’ve ridden the instinct so much before.
Actually he was a bit behind the top on every stage, so either he wasn’t up to speed or the other W as just faster...
  • 1 0
The need to get Finn a longer shirt lol he's the only one rocking the exposed midrift
  • 4 0
Well, his arms are raised the highest..............
  • 1 0
Thanks to all the racers and organizers and sponsors is all I can say; congrats!
  • 2 0
 Way to go, Kasper! #YoungMultiSportShredders
  • 2 0
Never going to complain about scribd again!
  • 1 0
Finn has the skills to pay the bills regardless of what bike he's ridding. As long as the bike holds up he will be fine.
  • 1 0
That stumpy is perfect for the trails they rode at silverstar plus add his skill in the mix.... perfect storm
  • 1 0
Will there be a replay online anywhere?
  • 1 0
 Verners' Kona looks spicy!
  • 1 0
Yeah Bas! Where's his bike check?
