Garbanzo DH - Crankworx Whistler 2018

They call it a "downhill race for the bold, brave and borderline masochistic." Starting from the top of Garbanzo Chair, 1180 metres above Whistler Village, the seven-kilometre descent links a series of iconic Whistler Bike Park trails and some of its most aggressive terrain, including Original Sin with its steep rock rolls, In Deep’s inimitable, rooty gnar and Longhorn’s signature speed-boosting berms.

Why would this event be scheduled at the same time as the EWS? I’m sure lots of the EWS guys would’ve liked to have raced it. Dumb.

Keegan Wright managed to train for EWS then race the Garbo afterwards!

Agreed. Isn't Ropo racing EWS tho?

It’s Crankworx - EWS is one part of that.
  • 6 1
Or that small race in Europe ?

EWS is part of crankworx. What I don't understand is why schedule crankworx whistler the same week of a world cup. Many dh racers usually compete in Whistler. Was it maybe a test to figure out if someone would chose to skip Lenzerheide in favour of crankworx?

@ORTOGONAL555: UCI probs has the hate on for Crankworx.

@ORTOGONAL555: If I,m not mistaken , CrankWorx has been the same week of the year for the last decade. Maybe ask UCI why they would schedule a conflicting event.

@cheetamike: Race season scheduling can't always be perfect when there are so many events on the calendar in the middle of the summer.

Props to the racers who race the downhill events and the enduro, their arms are going to feel like they worked a jack hammer.

@ORTOGONAL555: they will be on their way now. The main events don't happen until later in the week.

would be cool to see how she'd fare @ the wc level. got some speed for sure.

The timing between the EWS, the UCI DH race and Crankworx is a little on the debatable side. With MSA being 3 weeks away I can not see a bunch of people racing next weekend at the DH. They all sign up but never race.

Dumpster Fire Racing coming in hot

Well done to the winners. You shouldn't diminish the results because X,Y,Z weren't there. These racers prioritised the race, trained for it and did a good job on the day. It doesn't matter what else was on that day or weekend.

Wow, Ropo smoked everyone, the margins are massive!

No kidding; did it suddenly start raining? 12+ seconds between 1st and 2nd is a pretty big gap for almost any kind of race.
  • 1 0
12 seconds on 12 minute track is not even 0.02 of a percent difference Which is about the same for a 3 second difference on a 3 minute track.
  • 1 0
@WolfStoneD: Good logic. But for him it was a 12 minute track, for some it was a 13 minute track or longer.

So many names missing from the list. all away, dumb timing!
