I know right. Only a 2 second lead. Must have been a bad day.

 @bweller81: you mean 2 min

@TibZ: Oh I read that wrong.

The really interesting thing here is that we finally get a comparison of Mona Mitterwalner versus the other top women in the world. She's been winning off the front of minor races and U23 World Cups by minutes, so a real threat to contest the elites. But it looks like she's not on Loana's level quite yet...

No one is on Loana's level quite yet!

But 30 seconds behind the reigning world champ ain’t a bad day

@mtallman2: Not at all! Honestly nothing would have surprised me. She has already beaten some of the best Elites (e.g. Kate Courtney) by wide margins.

Mitterwalner had quite a poor start. She was in the mid-20s at 1/2 point of lap 1. Took her about a lap and 1/2 to clear traffic and really punch out some laps time. Her last three laps were pretty close to Loana's. Even was quicker than her one lap.

She was closing fast on Pauline at the end of the race.

@kclw: Ah, that explains it. From her U23 times I was expecting her to be either the fastest in the world or marginally slower than Loana.

It's really incredible the run of form Loana Lecomte is on this season... absolutely destroying people out there.

Lerobocompte has done to the Women's field this year what Nino did to the Men's for so long.
She has single handedly turned the race for first place into an foregone conclusion.

I can't find any video of this race.

Anyone?

What's up with the men's and woman's times?
  • 3 0
Nothing is up. They ride different distances. Men typically ride +1 lap compared to the women.

@Ginsu2000: why they have more in the tank.? DHers do it equal.
  • 1 1
Doesn't it make sense to you to have the total elapsed times for the men's and women's events be roughly the same, so that the physical demands are also similar?

Not really possible with DH, is it? Would you create a second start ramp part way down the course? Or an earlier finish part way up the course?

It is easily possible with the short laps at XCO events by adjusting the number of laps, so they take advantage of it.

@Ginsu2000: 20 Minutes for XCC, 90 Minutes for XCO. Those are the time markers they're trying to hit when the set the number of laps for a UCI WC Race. They usually base the number of laps by the time it takes the field to ride the first lap.

@Augustus-G: Yes. I was trying to explain the reasoning behind it for someone trying to compare it to DH where the finishing times are significantly different between men and women, expressed as a % of the total event time.

Did Lecomte lead every lap as usual?
