Rowan Sorrell is a fckin badass
  • 1 0
Was just thinking that. Haven’t heard his name in a while but looks like he’s still killing it!
  • 2 0
he is one tough rider who can come back with a punch. So much skill.
  • 3 0
@notthatfast: Lost his chain half way too!
  • 1 0
Always liked his riding style too, back in the Dirt Magazine days!

Always sad to see a rider win in an otherwise empty category. I can imagine Manon Hooijschuur might somehow see more appreciation if she'd win silver in the younger category and beat the (then) third place finisher by a lot. Gold and a rainbow jersey is cool to bring home though.

Yes he is. Hung out with him and track walked with him. Great guy and F#cking fast! Oh and lost his chain a third of the way in his race run to finish top step!

Can someone tell Greg Minaar he is supposed to race masters since a few years.
  • 8 0
I would but since he's still mopping up 95% of the "young" riders why bother
  • 1 0
He probably can't, can he? Didn't Nigel Page have to return his Masters title because he had competed in an elite race too short beforehand? I recall he was bummed as he was the first UK rider to take the jersey, even before Ruaridh Cunningham.

 Congrats to everyone competing!

Petr Hanak with his 2nd straight DH Worlds Masters title! But let's be serious here, second year in a row being held in Argentina, thus the REMARKABLY disproportionate amount of Argentinian riders littering the results field. Not a SINGLE Canadian rider in the results, only eight Amercans and fewer than 10 riders from all European countries COMBINED! For those ASSHATS @ UCI to seriously consider this event a true representation of the fastest Masters DH'ers in the world is an absolute JOKE! No disrespect to the winners listed, especially Petr (he's a MONSTER on the bike) but this event would more accurately be referred to as the South American DH Championships.
  • 20 1
Correct but obvious. Anywhere they pick for masters worlds will have a disproportionate number of local riders in the results. Not sure what or if there is a solution. Congrats to all

@HughBonero: Agreed, difficult to truly hold a World Masters Championship without the results being "skewed" towards local riders. Having said that, Petr, Rowan and maybe Christian withstanding, the depth of riders in Europe, Asian Pacific and N. America greatly outweigh the S. American fields and it's unlikely ANY of the winners other than the above mentioned riders would see anywhere NEAR the top 10 if this were TRULY A INTERNATIONAL field. Not hating on anyone or discounting their accomplishments, just the cold, HARD SIMPLE TRUTH.

Well they have to hold it somewhere and it changes venue every 2 years. Like any race locals can be advantaged, but anyone was free to go and we can only race whoever else showed up (yes I raced). I'm not sure what the solution would be to have even representation for countries when most people are paying their own way to go. No race is ever going to truly have all the best riders present.

Wasn’t the original master worlds held in Mt Bromont for a number of consecutive years? I’m sure N. Americans took the lions share of total entries those many years.

Spread the experience wealth and let our S.American bros have their time.

@jason3559: I think so. Recently it's been in Canada and France, rumor is Australia next. Seems like they do try to rotate countries so different people can try it/have advantage. Not sure what more they can do. I think the racers are well aware that we aren't actually the best among all the riders in the world, but it's fun to race!

Needs to be run more like a real world champ. Top 5 from each county should get to go . Also should have way more press and exposure ….hello pink bike

the best place to hold the world masters is europe, its easy to get to and everyone turns up. i hope its never in the USA as they wont let me in anymore Frown
  • 1 0
@mxmtb: i agree but it would not work as the older guys dont do nationals and some counties dont have a affiliated body so there would be no way to get the right people, the last national i dont last week in the UK only 3 riders in the over 50 ? terrible turn out. saying that 2 of them was ex masters world champ.

the sport is to young not enough good old guys 45 + also now its going up to 65 + they have to have tracks that they can get down so its a very difficult one.

i do agree i wish they used the hardest tracks the governing bodies of the country got teams together to go and represent there country that would be fun.

@bicitechmtb: Yeah, the difference is those Frenchies are fast AF! And would win just about ANYWHERE! How many UCI WC DH racers are from Argentina? Or Ecuador? Or how bout Chile?
How bout the newly formed EDR? See many Argentinian registered racers there?
If the Masters Worlds were held in Pakistan then it would be littered with Paki riders, I get that, but to call, or believe that ANY Paki racer is really a "World Champ" is a joke! Masters or otherwise!

Petr trains harder than most pros, great to see him crushing it!
  • 2 0
@jason3559: yes, I raced the Masters in Bromont from 1999-2002.
  • 1 0
@mbr-over35: ya true. I just thought it might thin out the heard a bit . I’m sure is some cycling bodies actually sat down a figured out a qualification regulation it would maybe entice some more competition. Maybe some of those bodies would actually cough up some money for a plane ticket to the local champ .
  • 4 0
Nobody was stopping the Europeans from entering. They just didn't think it was worth the plane ticket. That's on them, not on the UCI.
  • 1 0
@mxmtb: good luck getting 5 riders at a National Champs in most of those categories.
  • 5 0
Bravo for posting this! Masters Worlds should get more attention, those guys are still fast!
  • 4 0
 My boy, Petr Hanak! Congrats!

Masters world champs without Wyn and Eduardo? Lame.

Call a Master beyond 35 nowadays it's a joke... EWS also lost their mind..
  • 4 0
 Should be at least 40
  • 1 0
@HenkkaK: it used to be and interesting category to follow on older EWS... now its just ballegs... No one its interested or reported...
  • 2 0
@HenkkaK: also is like a second youth... Cause many pro might get burned around 35 and they they just decide to ride again at forties just for the love of the sport and good health so you can really appreciate wich old glories aren't getting that older...
Well it turns out I was very pissed off when they changed cause it was my dream to race again and win thosee hahaha
  • 2 0
 Used to be 30+
  • 2 0
In Moto a lot of tracks call 25+ vet haha. 40 should be the minimum. Really 50+ should be masters
  • 1 0
@chrisclifford: Hannah just won 2 DH at his 40s this season so far... So perhaps +45... It's evolution.. it means to age later and later...

  • 2 1
Travel to Argentina. Notice you are the only person in your category. Win. Go home.
  • 4 0
you have to be in it to win it
  • 2 0
Rowan Sorrell still riding flat out, good stuff.
  • 3 6
Championships held months before most DH mountains have opened. This seems like a contest to see who remembers how to ride from last season. Remember when world champs were held at the very end of the season, like every other sport?

In South America it's the fall right now

The video coverage looked like Cat 4 World Champs
